Wow, I found this page by conducting a Google search and I can't balieve other people have the same weird kind of pain! Thanks for posting so I know I am not alone. My throat hurts on the left side if I turn my head to the right. I do have swallowing issues and have had reflux for years. I thought I might have step but the doctor says no. I'm going to check out the thyroid theory as suggested in some posts here.

I had pain identical to this but on my left side when I turned my head to the right and when I pressed a certain spot on the left side of my neck, behind my carotid artery.  My ENT diagnosed it as carotidynia or inflammation of the carotid artery bulb (where the artery is bifrucated) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7346192 .

I have the same pain on the right side of my throat (pulse area) when I turn my head and/or swallow. It appears many have had this...

For anyone who can respond with confirmation:

1) Is it likely muscle related?
2) How long before the pain went away?

Thank you.

To all the above posters the pain is from sitting wrong. If you lay in bed with your head cocked forward this will happen. I'm not a doctor but I get this after I lay in bed with my laptop on my chest and my head cocked up with pillows. It should go away within 3-5 days, if not I would see a doctor.

I have pain in my neck/throat under the glands, inside or behind that area. At first I thought I had some kind of yeast infection because my tongue was painful and my mouth was profoundly dry. I stopped new meds as many have the side affect of causing dry mouth. Eventually I had to go to the Walk in Clinic. The P.A. basically went along with my thoughts. She gave my NYSTATIN to swish and swallow and it deal heal my tongue but the neck/throat pain remains in spit of her giving me Fluconazole for one week. She said if it is not getting better, I have to see an ENT doc which will happen tomorrow. I will let everyone know what he thinks. Oh, for me I am also have profound nerve pain in right hand, finger and arm and wonder if this could also be nerve related since everything is on the right side.

I know its been awhile but Ive been having similar symptoms for over a year and I came across something called Eagles Syndrome. Its when the Stylohoid Process (which is made up of bone and cartilage) either the ligement calcifies or the bone grows longer than normal
