Ok, I am in your all's SAME problem!!
Thought I had a tumor! FOR SURE! dr's say no. I had a stint placed inside one of my small capillaries on the backside of my heart and was taking Plavix for one year almost. The shooting or stabbing pains were so bad if I tried to wipe my rectom after a BM. I could not twist my spine to do the chore. I also had been having dull pains in my right hip occasionally. Not all of the time but ocasionally. Would last about a quarter hour or so. Going crazy I was that I quit my Plavix!!!! I seriously thought that IT had to be the problem. If you check this out you will find that I was lucky I did not have a heart attack!!! My Cardiologist really gave me haties. Well after I had been given a CT Scan, an Utlrasound and STILL no smoking gun! I had two cysts on my right kidney both about 20 cm (?) I think I was told. I immediately thought aaha! And nope I was told these were not the problem. I have had 21 stones in my life starting in my late twenties. I am 69 now. These stones were always too large to pass. ALWAYS! I have had all of then cyctoscoped, or blasted with the Ultra Sound, and more recent eppasodes were done with the laser. While I was having one a 9mm stome removed they installed a stint in my right kidney to hold open the uratary tube and I had another unrelated heart attack. Ended up back into the hospital! This is what precluded my stint in the back of the heart. The uritary stint was left in my uratary for 90 (NINETY) days causing two trips into the emergency room and a bunch of attibeotics! Even culminating in a week long stay in the high risk communical desease ward where they come in to see you in BLUE suits! I had to be given antibiotics again because of the dang stint in my uratary! Finally I got out of tere and back into the stone operating room to bust up the 9mm stone with a laser. So when I developed the right side pain EXACTLY like most all of you have reported on this forum I was thinking of the worse... a tumor! Especially when the dr's told me of the 2 custs on my right kidney,+ the time spent in the contageous disease unit, + the Plavix I had to be on. Whew! I was going crazy. It really hurt to do the wiping job that I needed to do daily too! The stabbing pains were so bad that I was hollering out from the spasims that could come on when ever!
Ok boring you all to death? But I hope you now understand my delima! Here is what worked for me!!!!!
I started taknit probiotics refrigerated capsils before every meal! 2-3 capsils 3 times a day. I hate apples as I do not like the peel. I started eating apples (one a day), a Banna of the morning, Vegatibles, and no POP for a few weeks. Drink LOTS (UGH!!) water! I do not drink alcohol, nor smoke, but I had been eating Grenola bars and was told to stop. Only eat fresh foods not prepaired foods. I thought this WAS CRAZY... BUT... no more right side aches after two weeks of doing this. I had been suffering with the right side stiffness in my ribcage, shooting pains in my bottom of my ribs, pelvis dull pains, and feeling like a lump inside my side that I thought it was a tumor.
All Gone now!!!! Back to normal. I am NOT dying likke I thought!
I was told that MANY of us are having this same problem especially if we eat prepaired food, packaged grainbars, soda pop or tea and are sitting a lot of our time at a computer, or driving a lot.
I do hope this answers a lot of you all's questions.
Sorry for the LONG story but this was mine. It scared me into searching out this website. Still no answers. I did NOT read them all posted here. And maybe someone else answered this delima in a shorter version.
Good luck and God Speed your recovery.

I have identical pain for past 5 years. Sometimes less, sometimes excruciating. now on pain meds. several tests done, none of them revealed the cause. My pain doctor (in McDonough, GA)says it must be muscle and on the 31st of August she is going to inject lidocaine in the exact spot that I put my finger on; which is on my right flank, few inches above my hip, towards the back. Incidentally, a few years ago my pain doctor (in Ft. Lauderdale), who was a retired Cuban orthopedic surgeon,(probably with 40 years experience), told me the pain is because my left leg is shorter than my right leg, and that is what's causing the pain in my right flank. Because of mechanics, every step I take, causes my right hip to squish upwards into my lateral ribcage, and that nerve and muscle being squished repeatedly is causing excruciating pain.He told me to put lifts in my left shoe. I'm not sure it helped. But, what leads me to believe that the pain is from some other source, is that I have had very limited movement from walking for the past 4 weeks,, yet the right flank pain has been excruciating. I had foot surgery and have had minimal walking for a month. Can we all get a facebook page going, as to not lose touch with each other. This pain and location, and lack of physician's knowledge about this area or what to do about it, makes people with this problem feel very isolated.
