I think it is fairly safe to say that the majority of us that post on these blogs do not have a medical background. If you read the terms on this site it will specify that.
However most of us have dealt with medical issues whether it be our own, a family member or a friend.
As a parent and an older adult I have experienced many, many medical issues. No I am not an expert! But if my child of 15 yrs old was having the above symptoms I would take them to the ER. I wouldn't care how much money it cost or if they found nothing wrong...I'd rather be safe than sorry.
These symptoms are abnormal and should be treated as such.

well I am a paramedic and can say I have these same chest pains at times especially when Im at work you just have to deal with them see a doctor get them checked and if nothing comes back nothing comes back I believe that if you have a problem like this you should go to the er regardless of if you dont have the money or insurance and if your parents arent takeing you to get it looked at well then they shouldnt be parents
I've just had this sharp feeling of pain in my rib cage today during football practice. I'm not sure if my lungs have collapsed but I do know that as im doing the drills, I start to breath faster, and as I'm breathing faster the pain increases. Because of this the sharp pain in my right rib cage area it is so much harder to perform well. I could'nt tell my coach that I was hurting in my rib cage which to me was out of my own pride, but I ended up being last in all of the drills. I don't know what to do because I'm now afraid to go to football practice because of this new pain that I developed. I'm not trying to sound puss but because of this pain im not sure if I can play football anymore.
Just give me some tips on what I can do to make this sharp, stabbing pain, go away, so I can play football better.

Sharp pain under right side of rib cage. Exacerbated by abdominal crunches, running, any extreme physical activity. Worse at night while sleeping. Can't lay on back or side. Doesn't hurt to touch but any movement involving twisting or stretching brings on more pain. Started almost 10 months ago after falling while skate skiing for the first time. Pain was so sharp after the next two days that I just broke down and balled like a child! Figured I just pulled an abdominal wall muscle. The point is after going on line and reading everyone's problems I started thinking wow these people have serious side effects - why don't they just go see a doctor? Then realized I have the exact same side effects and that I SHOULD GO SEE MY DOCTOR!!!! So thanks to everyone for sharing, this has helped me realize guessing and pondering are not making it any better. Have any of you ever checked out spiegelian hernia? It could be serious or could be just pulled connective tissue or muscle so always best to get it checked out!
i've had that to. I try to breathe deep to see if expanding stomach muscles help then just relaxed. Sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't. First try a heating pad& advil. If it doesn't go away sleep on it. If it still doesn't go away see a doc.
I have the same problem and was told that it is pluersy which is an inflammation of the linning of the lung and chest wall. the symptoms are pain with breathing or coughing. I was in the hospital from the 24-28th because of a severe asthma attack. Ever since I have had this pain right now it is really bad and I suppose I should go to the er but I have a chiro appt. tomorrow and an appt. with my regular dr. on thrus. so I'm going to try to tough it out. There's not much to do to treat except to take tynoel or advil.. I hope this helps you.
I have this problem to. IT hurts so bad when i breath so i breathe little by little until the pain goes away. It alsl hurts when i movve.
Sounds like Precordial Catch Syndrome?
I am researching on this because I am also having this pain. It started yesterday and today its much worse. It feels like a severly torn muscle or even a sharp stabbing pain. I am also having hard time breathing, as if its a sharpness to my breathing. I am getting chills off and on (or just shakey) Im only 23 and ive had this before. I have not had any kind of infections or anything of the sort so im wondering if its from sleeping wrong or sitting on the couch wrong. I really hate hospitals but I dont want to think of what may happen if i dont go. I guess ide tell everyone its better to be safe than sorry. Go to a doctor or the ER you never know.
any thoughts for someone who has no bad medical history thats having what is mentioned above??
thanks

Hello, I would really appreciate it if somebody could provide an answer for me. I am in quite some pain right now, and have been since about 3-4 days ago. I feel sharp pains, right under my ribcage (on the right side). When I take (DEEP) breaths it hurts, when I take short breaths I don't feel it so much. Also, if I sit and I don't pivot or move in any way, I almost don't feel the pain. It is very hard to sleep and do regular day-to-day activities. Could somebody please help me out here? I would really appreciate it. Also, if it makes a difference, I smoke, I don't know, however, if that is the cause.
Hello, i'm 13 years old. i woke up yesterday and my right side, under my ribcage was really hurting :-( Through the whole of yesterday, it hurt when i walked and when i spoke or took deep breaths in from my mouth. it is constantly hurting, even now when i'm sitting down. my appetite was gone yesterday, but i managed the eat a cheesy oatcake :-D i have also been getting headaches. i thought that the pain would of gotten better by today but it hasn't. it really hurts when i walk around. and i can't find a comfy position. i haven't been to see a doctor or anything. it would really help me if anyone knew what i have. and what i should do about it. i'm in alot of pain :'(
i had the same problem. there was some air in my chest. as i am a medical student i developed my own tactics. i had to inhale and exhale 100 percent to get that out. now thats out i do not feel any pain. i was so glad i did something which actually worked for me hope it works for you lot too . lungs collapses when there is air traped they can take it out by surgey by you can take it out by exhaling fully.
try inhaling and exhaling excessively for 5 mins n hold your breath it workss trust me x
