so strange...I have this and my daughters have it too. We call it our alien. It's a bubble that seems to poke out between 2 ribs on the right side, then pulsates until it sucks back in. While that is happening, I can't move, can hardly breathe, but once it's over, it's fine. There must be an explanation for this...too many people have it!

let me preface this by saying I am not a doctor.
However, I get pains like this all the time. I can usually get them to go away. Some ways are quite easy, some ways are not.
First, if you have blood in your mucus or something to that extent what are you looking at an online article for? GO GET HELP! If you are a skinny person or have thin (maybe stretchy) skin or are double jointed these are all qualities of people with connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers Danlos syndrome. People with connective tissue disorders are at higher risk for having a collapsed lung (spontaneous pneumothorax).

The quick fix:
I wouldn't recommend this if you have a collapsed lung but... I suspect that sometimes my lung or chest cavity membrane is just irritated due to weather or something. I do have scar tissue n my chest cavity from previous pneumothroax, so I was under the impression that I might be more susceptible to this. In any case, I can usually shake it loose. Try to find some position where breathing in OR out allll the way does not hurt quite as much. Then do that a couple times. Do it a final time real deep and give a little cough with it. That usually puts me right on my feet. I don't know what doctors might say because you probably risk tearing something.

Determine if it is a collapsed lung:
I've had a couple. If you have a bad heart I wouldn't recommend this one... but If you are fortunate to have them on the upper or front part of your left lung you can usually rotate your body (lay down) so that the air can sit around your heart. It is a very uncomfortable feeling but if you get a bubbly sensation when your heart beats it's a pretty good indication that your lung is collapsed.

If you suspect a collapsed lung:
At this point... you may want to get an x-ray.

If if is a collapsed lung:
You can usually get by with sleeping upright in a chair for a couple nights. Your lung can heal itself if it is something less than (I don't remember the number) 50%?? collapsed. Otherwise you may have to have a chest tube inserted to create a vacuum on your chest cavity. This allows your lung to expand to the extents of your chest cavity. Opt for a thin tube because it hurts less when they take it out in about 4-6 days. Don't let them to forget to clamp the vacuum to verify your lung can support itself before removing the tube or you will be back in for another run!!!!! (Believe me... not fun!)

I have read all of those and all of them sound just like what i have, I am only 13 and I dont know what is going on with whatever is hurting in my body, it is like below my right breast and I was lying in bed this morning and it was hurting very badly, also when I laugh it kills me with the pain, How do I get this to go away? I have done my fair share of things and I dont want to tell me parents because these pains might lead to all the things I have done, should I tell them or not? like will it go away on its own with time? i also play football and I can't go to practice because I loose my breathe and feel like going to pass out, I hope someone can help me because this pain is not very fun what so ever. i just want it to go away and go back to my normal routine without the pain. someone please tell me what I should doim

Yeah , me too I got this pain that only shows up when I smoke ciggerettes right above my right nipple. I am a male, 32 and have smoked for about 15 years on and off but mostly on so you can imagine how paranoid I am! But my xrays came out clean and I dont cough, nor nothing but when I breathe in it kind of hurts. If I breath really really deep and push the air deep to allow full expansion of my lungs the pain goes away for about a good hour or so making me feel good again. Also pain relievers do the trick as well. I was told by my doctor that it is probably musculo skellatal, but it is wierd that it only appears when I smoke. Like I kicked ciggs for about two weeks , no more pain. Then my old lady started trippin on me so I bought a pack and bam!! About 25 ciggertts later , pain, again!. I was thinking that maybe, it could be angina , or cardio vascular somehow because I know when you smoke the blood vessels contract in your body and eventually they turn into like a leather consistency. I feel like there is a bubble too and will rub there and it feels like it sooths it, like rubs down. Maybe my lung is collapsing as well. I just dont know and my dang doctor dont either, It is so annoying at times, I just want to cut into it just to find out WTF. Any one want to add feel free.

This is really late. But I had this same pain, right under my right rib cage. Had a sonogram. I am only 37, I had gallstones the size of marbles and an inflamed gallbladder. They scheduled my surgey for two months away, then the pain got SO unbareable, I ended up having emergency surgery. On my post-op visit, they said it was a BAD gallbladder. So check the lung things because so many people suggest that. But the placement is right where the gallbladder is also and the pain is also the pain I had. So two options there. PLEASE repost and let us know how it went.

I see a lot of you seem to have the same problems. I have exactly the same symptoms as the first post.
I found this:

Read it and see if you have it, it's very common and completely harmless. You guys might be overacting, I sure was.

Might sound weird but this is actually very common and happens to many people! Some people take actions that are not too necessary. For instance, taking medication, having many tests done, etc... Many people do not understand that our body goes through stages and phases. I know of many people who had this problem and by just not worrying about the problem it has disappeared without any action.

To the people wondering about the sharp pains, a hard time breathing, discomfort, and a bubble feeling that go away after taking a deep breath:
I am not a doctor. I suggest you google "Precordial Catch Syndrome". It sounds like what you are describing.
