I also have had this same pain. about a week ago i had really bad neck/shoulder and joint pain in my right arm. that went away after about a week and now this pain while swallowing comes up. It honestly doesnt feel like i have anything stuck in my throat but just feels like a stabbing or sharp pain when i swallow. the pain in my shoulder blade and neck are gone but this pain is rather annoying to say the least. im still eating like i normally do but i might have to make a doc app as well and i dont have health insurance so its gonna cost me. From the posts i have seen though the doc's seem to have no clue as to whats goin on anyways so i would most likely be wasting my money.

I have similar pain on the left side of my neck when i tilt my neck and pain in the throat on the left side as well when i swallow, but the throat pain in not consistent. it happens sporadically and in certain position of my neck. Anyone has similar condition. I went to an ENT doctor about two months ago and he found nothing in the throat.

Wow, the SAME EXACT thing happened to me. I'm 17 years old. My mom brought pizza this morning and it felt like a piece of it got stuck in my throat, but I kept on eating and slowly realized that it wasn't going away. Throughout the day/night, it's just kept feeling worse. I don't have any back/neck pain, but I can significantly feel something painfully slowing down/blocking the food /liquid right at my collarbone. It also hurts to burp. The thing is, this is the second times this has happened. The first time was about two years ago, when it bothered me for about 3 weeks before I said anything. I went to the doctors and they made me do the thing where you swallow the barium and X-Ray you, but they said they didn't see anything. Because of the lack of results before, I doubt I'll bother trying again this time. I really wish we all knew what could fix this...

Hi all,

I'm new here was searching for help regarding my symptoms.

All started back in August 2008, I got a pain under my breastbone and a lump in my throat, the lump has not gone still.

Dr said it was esophogitis and acid reflux and I have been taking proton pump inhibitors since then but nothing is working. I have had endoscopy, changed my diet, I have been diagnosed as having gallstones and I am on waiting list for removal of gallbladder.

The Dr's say the gallbladder problem is not related to my esophogitis pain. I have heard of people having problems with too little acid in the stomach rather than too much and wonder if this is the problem.

The pain with the gallstones is recognizable, it comes just under the right shoulder blade and underneath the right breast area.

The pain with the esophogus is under the left breast/middle and a constant lump in my throat even without food and only drinking water for over 24 hours.

I was wondering if anyone had any similar symptoms with their gallstones causing esophogitis, I am sure they are related even thought the Dr's say they are not.

Whilst researching my lump in throat I came across another thing that can cause this feeling. Tonsil stones, they are little lumps that form in the pits of your tonsils. One site say just apply a little pressure to the tonsil area and if you see white stuff in the pit then you have them. They can be removed by applying more pressure. I hope this helps some of you with your problems.

Hey all. I have all the exact same symptoms and had an upper endoscopy today. It is NOT acid reflux and the gastroenterologist says my esophagus looks perfect. I have no idea what it can be. Perhaps a lung problem???? I know I'm scared. I feel awful and am on a soft diet - have been for over a week.

Ok I just woke up with the same symptoms. A lump in the right side of my throat and pain i my right shoulder blade. I was starting to flip when I realized its not going away and was trying to find out more info about it online when I stumbled across this page. I have to say it makes me feel a little better to know I am not alone in this. Has anyone actually gotten a straight answer about this yet? Isnt it sad that this many people have this and no one seems to have a clue? :'(

For the past month when I swallow cold liquids, I get a brief dull ache under my left shoulder blade that only lasts a few seconds. I don't know if it's acid reflux. If it continues, I will call my physician.

Hi

I too have had years of this feeling of a lump in my throat. I do suffer from high acid reflux but not so bad that i need to take a daily tablet.

After being checked by specialists they described my symptoms as Globus Sensation. Apparantly this condition goes way back and doctors believed in the past that we were all telling lies. It is not common but my specialist says he has seen 4 or 5 cases of this over 5 years or so.

Andrew

Thanks Guys.

Some of this stuff was very useful.

For the past couple of months I have been having many difficult symptoms. It started as a sharp stabbing pain in my chest and then moved to become a severe stabbing pain in my back between my shoulder blades. More symptoms followed, extreme shooting pain in my throat, difficulty swallowing, feeling of choking, a dry cough, hoarse voice from time to time, feeling of a lump in my throat and pain in my neck. I have been on medications (including 2 nexium a day) but they have continuously been changed after a month or so because they didn't seem to be working. I have been diagnoised with acid reflux through having a barium but have refused to get an endoscopy because of a past bad experience with a similar test. However, perhaps my best plan of action is to see if the new meds (Prevacid) will work and perhaps try them a little longer, perhaps a few months. I am believing in God that these symptoms will soon wear off as I have had too many sleepless nights sitting up in bed.

luke u kind of describe the situation I'm in right now. but for me it lasted for really long time.
everything started two years ago I started having anexity attacks and panic attacks, and when I had them I really felt like I'm going to pass out or die, it was really scary. since then I was always scared to have it again and I lived in fear.
then after that I started having weird feelings with my stomach; feeling really weak. I had alot of other symptomes and acid reflux that made me feel the worst; chest discomfort, problems with bowel movement, hard to breath sometimes, weakness, heartburn and more bad symptomes. I also tried lots of medication that didn't help at all. I also did chest x-rays, endoschopy, barrium and ultrasound and the dr just said that he can't see anything worng and that everything looks normal. sometimes I just wish I could know what is my problem and just take care of that by medicine cause whenever I have any symptom and I'm starting to feel bad I feel desperte becasue I can't do anything about it just wait for this feeling to go away. and yesterday I felt the same thing you guys described here. half an hour after dinner I started getting this paing in throat and back whenever I swallowed my saliva or whenever I drank some water. it felt exactly like a bone is getting stuck in my throat and it scarches all the way down to my mid back. I tried taking tumbs or drink mellox but it didn't help. It continued like that all night. In the morning I felt it again but it was less painfull. I dont really know what is that..I have a dr. appointment on monday and I'm gonna tell him all about it. I hope he can help me or sombody can finally solve my problem.

I just had this issue - I have never had an acid reflux issues so I ruled this out. I knew it was not strep, nor a viral sore throat. It was very much like a lump was at the base of my esophagus. When I woke last night with it, I launched into a panic attack, because the muscles were spasming and making it hard to breathe...Plus, I didn't know what was happening so it is a terrible shock.

Upon seeing my chiropractor, he determined that my vertebrae in my neck were out of alignment and were pulling my esophageal muscles via my trapezoid. He adjusted me and the relief was quick. I have exercises for a couple of days and a re-check in three days with him. The lump feeling is not gone entirely, but is significantly lessened. He predicted in a few days I would feel "Normal" again.

I had indeed had a very sore neck for several days before the lump in the throat feeling started. I also know that I need to maintain better posture - I am a PhD candidate, so type at a laptop. NOT good for the muscles in my neck, as I tend to hunch over the computer.

I chose very purposefully to Not go the ER/traditional doctor route. I knew this was a skeleto-muscular issue and not related to acid reflux.
