I can see that these posts were from many years ago, so I dont know if anyone will reply, but I have the same thing. It hurts to swallow anything, and my back hurts between my shoulder blades and my chest hurts when I swallow too. My doctor told me to take OTC antacid tablets. Did anyone get diagnosed or figured out what the problem was?

I am happy that I found this site and read all the comments, about one month ago, I was eating supper and when I swallowed it felt like the food got stuck in my throat and then I had a sharp pain in my back between the shoulder blades. I went to have a scan of my gall bladder because my Doctor thought that might be causing the pain, the test came back negative. I also will have to see a GI doctor next month if it doesn't go away, they now think it might be a hiatal hernia. I will continue reading everyones posts and will let you know when I find something out. I still continue to swallow and then there is a jab of pain, mostly in my left shoulder blade. It also hurts when I swallow in the front of my chest too. I am going to take antacids even though I don't have heartburn. My doctor told me to give up coffee and pop for a while to see if it helps. Yesterday I woke up and felt nauseous. Anyone have any info? I would appreciate it.

Is there by any chance a quick cure for this. People say that i am stressed or was sleeping in the wrong direction. I have a maths test tomorrow maybe it is just stress. It even hurts to talk. I fear that my voice may go. There is other things that throat infection because i have had this before but it usually goes away very fast.

I have had all the symptoms as well, the lump in the throat, the trouble swallowing, the pain feeling like you just swallowed a whole piece of hard candy, etc. More than once I have had burning across my chest and back, and weird "clicking" in my throat. Also felt like I had to hit my chest to burp and then that hurt my back after I did. It's happened to me probably 4 different times. My chest and back were on fire last night and other than rubbing my back on the corner of a door, nothing helps. It's internal and frustrating. Scared to eat!!
This time I had gone to my chiropractor prior to these symptoms because my neck and head had been hurting...well about a week later, these symptoms started. I'm calling for an appt with him. (I went through all the GI tests and nothing was found in prior years). I know at one time one of my vertebra was pushed in (concave)...I'm wondering if this could be part of the cause, and then the stress over it all, causing the other symptoms. I have been on all the acid reducing meds known to man and stopped them all years ago. It's reoccuring and I think stress adds to it, but I am wondering if my spine being out of line could trigger it all? It bothers more towards night, but I know the feeling of feeling like you are crazy when the Dr.'s can't find anything. I hope the Chiropractor can help!

I am 28. I have had these symptoms for a year.. I have been really scared from time to time. Started w/ lump feeling in the throat (right side), then.. throbbing throat pain, prickly feeling, then.. neck, ribcage, upper back, collar bone, ear, face, top of my head, sternum..all on the right side. All tests with my doc came back fine.. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SEE YOUR DR to rule out obvious infection or mass. I am not a DR, but relaxing, stretching, yoga, message & hot baths help me with this problem.. It takes time though. This wont get better over night, so dont get frustrated. Keep the muscles stretched & relaxed..muscles have memory and can be stubborn. Think about your daily routine and the things that irritate your shoulder, neck, & throat (coughing, driving, repetitive motions, anxiety, sleeping on your shoulder, posture, playing guitar, etc.) This is a tricky cross section of muscles and nerves. Muscular/skeletal problems can make your nerves feel some crazy things.
Dont worry too much, stay up :-)

I had all these symptoms at one time or another, for a period of over 10 years.
Finally I found Trigger Point Therapy (a self treatment book).
And all the symptoms went away.
Vertigo, tmj, ear pain, sinus pain, what appeared to be colds, flu, fevers
lump in throat, heartburn, belching, stiff neck, headaches
blurry vision, seeing lights, spacial disturbances, eye pain, chest pain, back pain.
I could go on forever.... all basically came from tightness and knots in a few muscles.
Sternocleidomastoid, trapezius, and a small knot in my calf muscle that pulled my whole body to one side
Which may have been the root cause - and I didnt know it hurt there until I poked it.

I had this same problem last night. I have a heart condition. So any weird pains by my chest scares me. First I took aspirin and it didnt help. Then I took Pepto Bismol, laid back down, and a couple minutes later I was relieved. I think it was just some strange acid reflux side effects.

Hello, I read most of the post on here and helped me feel better to know I'm not the only one with throat pain. The pain started at night then got worse the next day. Tha pain was the right side of my throat, ear and down my neck. Sharp, stabbing pain like I've never experienced before. Went to a specialist (Otolaryngology ) to see if I could get some help. The pain was so bad that it hurt just by breathing. He inserted a camera down my nose into my throat to make sure there were no lumps or something abnormal. Everything was normal just a bit puffy. He said it was just an allergic reaction to seasonal allergies. Game me some nose spray and told me to go back if the pain didn't go away in a few days, he would then prescribe antibiotics. He also mentioned it could be acid reflux and the ear pain was a trigger pain caused by it. He also said my saliva gland was swollen and that could have caused all the pain as well. I was sent home to rest and to keep doing warm compress where the saliva gland was located and to drink plenty of fluids.

I am actually relieved after reading some of these posts on here. I thought, what in the world could cause your back, chest, head and neck to hurt from swallowing or a gas bubble in the belly. Since all of this started couple days ago, I have also had a bad headache. I have had back, neck, tailbone problems for years, plus I've had nerve damage due to my diabetes, plus I have lumps and have had pain for years in my ride side. My mind was racing all over the place, while still praying for a healing. lol  But Im now convinced that I must have pulled a muscle and along with the nerve damage in my stomach it's causing all of these symptoms. No sense in going to the docs b/c I can't afford to get tests done...Thank the internet for providing sites like these. I guess I'll wait it out and buy something for the belly. :)

Hey you guys. I have had the same thing recently and it's worrying me. Whenever i randomly swallow, my throat hurts. I'm NJROTC and I'm a runner in the unit and we do exercise every Tues. and Thurs. But last Tuesday we ran a really long jog then we did a sprints, in which after about three sprints in the gym my throat started to hurt and it feels like something is cut inside. I thought it was just because of the exercise but now it hurts when i swallow and my back-neck hurts too. I just read couple of you guys messages and i was wondering if you guys had been sleeping late and starring on your computer and slouch a lot when you stare in the computer like i did. I had just been hooked to reading lately and i think it might have something to do with it. reading books is pain in the "neck". lol, Hopefully its nothing serious. I'm just gonna relax and lay down and hopefully it will go away. (fingers crossed). Any comment suggestions are appreciated. Thanks guys. If your reading this cause you have some sort of same problems too, please try not to worry to much I'm sure it'll will be fine. Besides worrying about it isn't going to do much.

Get off the boniva until doc makes sure this is not the cause. This type of med is notorious for causing esophagus inflamation and even ulcers!

I used to have that and I suffer from panic and anxiety.  It sounds like it could by globus hystericus.  Once I stopped worrying about it it went away.

Im having these symptoms, and drinking plain hot water is helping me...its worst in the morning and then fades by night time...avoid spicy, fatty and greasy things, take the antacids like your doctor told you, and drink hot water...if your stomach hurts try hot milk with a little honey. I have the shoulder and chest pain, but i just use a heating pad for my back...i also take ibuprofen since it is an anti inflammatory, and that seems to help the swelling of the limp in my throat and my other pains. when it really hurts, i stretch my throat muscles by tilting my head back to pull at the area that it sore. That really helps alot. Note: This is just what i do to help myself deal with the symptoms, i don't have insurance, so i don't plan on going to the doctor unless i cant breathe, lol
