Had HoLEP surgery 12/2/14. Failed void 23-hr void test so had 18F catheter until 12/8/14. No pain upon urination after catheter removal. Blood in urine "ceased" 12/17/14 and I stopped using pads/Depends 12/18/14. However, noticed signficant blood in urine 12/19/14 and a few hours later passed a paper-thin, half-dollar sized blood clot/scab. Urine flow was normal, then slammed to a halt while clot folded up for ejection. It came out in one piece and, while little pain was involved, it scared the heck out of me. Wasn't expecting chunks of this size. Am I the only lucky HoLEP patient passing "stuff" this large?
Been there done that today....from what I was told, it's more common than we know. Often times patients have to be "irrigated" with a catheter to alleviate the problem; I was able to pass a monster size clot on my own but not without considerable discomfort. I hope you're healed and wish you well.
It's been 2018 prostate cancer and radiation now my penises is now coming back not all the way hard but after 4 years now I have my pelvic working but now I have blood some time and blood clots comes out he stops up my penis and wen it do come out it's looks so bad going back to the Dr the 14 for at ct test and go in inside my penis yes I am afraid
Had HoLEP May 2. Twenty-four days later, passed blood clots and retention followed. Went to ER in a different hospital, because I couldn’t reach doc who performed HoLEP.. I needed help having catheter installed, but it wouldn’t drain. Had post op surgery by an oncall urologist to get catheter in and doc found a lot of blood clots. He cauterized additional clots and catheter was removed 3 days later, after passing a lot of blood.
Ten days later, was finally feeling good, and another clot passed, unexpectedly. Almost had retention again, but managed to pee out clot.
Am worried I’ll have to go through another catheter insertion, which means more surgery to remove new clots, and the cycle continues.
Tried reporting these problems to doctor who performed surgery, and he has never called me back.

My dad has been in hospital x 17 days now after having HoLEP procedure and kidney stone removal. Became septic and septic shock and kidneys still haven't recovered. Continues to have clots and blood loss, dialysis and 4 blood transfusions later......Still no better. All for a super enlarged prostate and to get rid of foley catheter for urine retention. I think back now we should of just skipped the prostate surgery and kept foley catheter forever. Been a complete nightmare
