Veterans now have to bring in their narcotic medications EVERY time they see their primary physician!  They also have to submit to a piss and blood test.  It's bad enough that we're in pain and many of us suffer from PTSD but to be treated as a common junkie is insulting.  There is no way to get pain meds from the VAMC unless you sign a narcotic contract and agree to these terms.  Eventually someone will hold up a veteran coming out of the VAMC's and then what?  It's embarrassing as this is done in full sight of everyone at the pharmacy window.  You wait at the window while some RN counts your meds.  They don't even take you into a room.  They are also cutting most vets without cancer down or off their pain meds.  I was told that 50% of the meds would take care of my pain as well as the 100 mc of Fynetnal I was on.  BS!!!!!!  I am now in pain all the time.  What a way to treat veterans.  Thank your Congressmen and Senators for this policy because it came from the top.  I bet none of them suffer pain.

I have been taking Pain Medication for over 12yrs now and I have Liver Problems & agree with not taking too much! I have now been switched to Norco 10/325 2@ a time 3x daily. I also have Hydromophone for break through pain. I hate the comment people make about being a "pill-popper"! My problem since changing to Norco I'm breaking a rash and scratch myself so bad while Im sleeping, which is caused by Valium. I need to know what will work better than the Norco. I dont want to go back to methadone! It did work but no insurance cant go back to a Pain Management Dr. I'm going for a check-up 4-2-12, so I'm wanting to have things to ask my Dr. to change me to. Or to try. He is good about keeping me out of pain. I do take other Med.s but this is the Pain Med.s. I am Not ADDICTED My Dr. told me the answer to that when Anyone says it is You are Addicted if you take it to feel high, My Body is DEPENDENT. There is a difference.

tell him you need the percocet 10s its a better combo than the perk 5s because more ocycodone but the kicker and this is what means something percocet 10s have less tylenol than the 5s
Reply
oxycodone is stronger but not if you only take 5s, has to be at least 30s.

Percocet and other medications with aspirin/Tylenol in them were never meant for long term pain control  They can cause liver damage and other problems.  You'd be better off on a narcotic that doesn't have the aspirin/Tylenol in it.  Morphine, Fyntenol, and other s a re a much better option.  Talk to your doctor or go to a pain specialist.

I'm in the same boat. Hang in there and try to stay sane.

i can understand what your talking about. for almost 4 years now, i have used opioid pain medications to control pain from a bad snowboard accident. i misjudged a 4 foot jump and landed on my back with my board slamming over my head and sandwiching my back in the process. i have 4 herniation/disc bulges in my lumbar/lower back region and a torn tail bone that also developed a cystic mass but was drastically reduced over the course of 3x epidural cortisone injections.

i went from ultram to tylenol 3 then 4 then vicodin ES 7.5 and then norco 10/325.

vicodin and norco are the same, both contain hydrocodone however norco has far less Tylenol compared to vicodin. i will suggest those going over their own limit in medication to STOP. taking too much vicodin or percocet or any other medicine containing acetaminophen/tylenol as this will likely lead to liver dysfunction and possible failure resulting in death..

TYLENOL IS HEPATOXIC TO THE LIVER IF YOU USE MORE THAN THE MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED DOSE.

now that that's out of the way, i was switched from 10mg norco, 6 a day to 10mg perc 6 a day. my doctor wont prescribe me plain oxycodone yet for fear of abuse potential. ive been using tylenol daily close to the max limit for almost 2 years and its getting to me horribly.

its sad that doctors place fear of abuse over patients pain and quality of life :/ so its another month. and i was using morphine before, MSCotin, so why is OxycodoneCR a problem? since i tolerate hydrocodone, similar to oxycodone better than morphine. way worst constipation vs hydrocodone! for me that is.

in SoCal Oxycodone abuse is rampant, but i even have MRI results that show a 6mm bulge/hernia/smashed disc. and what she does is tell me to buy a ridiculously expensive alpha-stim machine and slap on lidoderm patches.

i mean i have to live you know. cant work or go to school. depressing.. im lucky my last dr (physiologist that gave me epidurals) gave me 3 refills of my norco 6 a day. and don't even ask me about the month that the pharmacy switched brands on me.. oh god... hell for a month..

im only 21, but my mother being a nurse i have access to clinical pain management manuals and have a long history of research on the subject and one thing she said irked me: "if your sleeping your not in pain"

there is a difference between being exaushted and being put to sleep with valium (diazepam) and cyclobenzaprine because you dont have any relief and actually SLEEPING WELL.

hang in there guys, and research your drugs, and ALWAYS always, watch the Tylenol (acetaminophen). its a liver killer in high amounts :/

feel better guys. i just needed to vent...

This is for anyone that is addicted or dependent. Try this go to your local Wal-Mart and buy some Ginger root, not pills buy the root. take a cheese grater and use the small grating holes and grate the root up. Mix it with any meal you eat. Oatmeal, cereal ect. I was very amazed as to how much it helped with my pain. I was in a auto accident and have severe damage to my neck. I have damage to c4-5,c5-6 and c6-7 7 being the worse as I only have about 20-25% of my spinal cord remaining. I do not take any prescription meds at all. Thats right none at all. I have been prescribed them but I never get them filled. I use to take Advil by the hands full,5-6 at a time and then 2 hrs later take another 2-3 then an hour or so later another 2-3. I could tell it was effecting my kidneys so I backed off them and now I only use ginger root and can tell my kidneys are getting better by drinking lots of cranberry juice. Please listen to me they are right these drugs can and will damage either your kidneys or liver. So far ginger root has no side effects. I use a little over a table spoon full in what ever I am eating. Well time for me to grind up my ginger root so I can get a decent nights sleep. GOOD LUCK,hope this helps. If you don't believe me google ginger root for pain.

I have had similar problems with several pharmacies. Mainly because my regular doc prescribed some meds and my pain specialist who works with my doc ptescribed other ones. Took me several weeks to get it all straightened out. I was highly upset and embarrassed.

I have been in painkillers for over a year now. I have had herniated discs, spine compression, fibromyalgia and other pains. I started Out with vicodin 5/500, then 7.5/325, now 10/325. I am prescribed 6 a day. Nothing works and i am growing more apt to take too many to manage pain and leave myself short and have withdrawls every month. I am scared to adk for more or a different pain killer as i feel my doctor will just take me off. This sucks! What can i take and be normal for once?

I live in Western North Carolina, and you'd have to bleeding out your eyes here for a dr to actually perscribe ANY pain medication. I am fortunate to have a dr that does my pain management for me, I've been with him for almost 6 years and just 3 months ago, had to have my meds, Oxycodone 5/325 increased to 4 times a day instead of 3. I came here from Florida where I was on the same thing for 3 years there and never, not once, did I have a problem getting a prescription from my Dr. I ruptured 2 discs @ L1 and L2, yeah, I know, weird place and am a healthcare professional. I was also attatcked by a dog and had half of my lip ripped off in May and in July, I broke my leg and ankle. So, its more aggrivating than ever trying to get the amount of medications that I need right now. Especially with all these idiots selling them on the street. Now I have my medicine taken care of here monthly, however, it's always some kind of ordeal to get it. Can't get it a day too early, have to submit to drug testing whenever he requires and he has called me in to count my medications many times. It's just such complete and utter BS. I will tell you that I am physically addicted to them, anyone who's on them for more than a month or 2 is physically addicted. Mentally, there's probably a bit of addiction as well, but I can tell you that I have stopped taking them and when I do, I'm in severe pain. So, I'm taking them legitimately, but there is most definitely an addiction to them as well. Everyone on here sounds a bit addicted and i'll tell you how you can tell, if you don't know already. Stop taking them for 2 days. If you have severe diarrhea, shaking, no energy, become dehydrated, dizzy and just feel like you can't move, guess what? You're addicted. I personally don't care that I'm addicted. i'm 41 years old and being addicted to them is not a problem as long as I'm functioning and the Dr doesn't get a wildhair up his ass to take them away. Norco (hydrocodone) and Percocet (oxycodone) are 2 totally different meds. And it makes perfect since that 10mg is going to work better for you than 5. And, whatever you do, don't let any dr try putting you on this fairly new drug Nucynta, it almost killed me. Good luck everyone. I wish you all the meds you need to be pain free.

I had a bulging disc and had spinal fusion in april. Im still on Norco 10-325 because even though the sciatica has decreased my back pain is still there. I get back spasams and have thorasic pain. I was on norco 5/500 but now on norco 10/325, also with tizanidine and lidocain patches. They help but the break thru pain is something else. There is a big diffrence in the two norcos. I thought the surgery would help but it made a slight diffrence. Jus shifted the pain from down my legs to my lower and mid back.
