Count me in as well. I've had this tingling sensation for about a year now. It was isolated to the lower right small of my back, but has recently spread to include the left side of my spine. I went to a dermatologist and my regular dr who specializes in internal medicine; neither noticed anything visibly wrong, even though I did have a small itchy rash that persisted. I was prescribed a cortizone cream, which provided only minor relief from the itch, but did nothing else.
I don't associate the tingling with a pinched nerve, as there is no pain. Nor do I think it is allergy related. I wonder if it could be viral or parasitic. Whatever is the cause, the reactive tingly sensation is getting worse and occurring more often.

Hey there! I realize that this was a very long time ago, but did you ever get a diagnosis for this problem? I have the same exact thing in the same exact place, and I am seventeen years old. It comes and goes and recently if I bend too far forward I get a tiny bit of pain.
I suppose notalgia paraesthetica is a possibility---thank you for the link---although I have never had a back injury and certain other conditions do not apply. I was mistaken, however, when I mentioned that the tingling occurs at the small of my back. It is actually the area where my bra strap rests. Heavy sigh.
I have had exactly the same problem for almost 8 years, after the birth of my first child. The spot is below my right shoulder blade just to the right of my spine. It is a spot about the size of a ping pong ball. It tingles and is sore from time to time....almost like someone is taking their thumb and pushing it hard into my back. Its right below the bra strap. I am right handed and I notice it more when I have poor posture. I have a 4 month old now and I also notice it more when I am holding him or leaning over changing his diaper etc. I think it is around the t4 or t5 area of the spine. I have seen a neurologist and a chiro...my chiro says it is muscle tension causing nerve sensitivity. I dont know. I have heard that things like this can really just go unexplained. I have had it for such a long time that is it more bothersome than worrysome. I would love to know if anyone ever had a definite diagnosis. The notalgia paraesthetica sounds like it could be a reasonable diagnosis though. It is comforting to know that so many people have this same problem - young, old, male, female....Can you make it go away by changing positions? lying down? stretching your muscles? I can ususally releive the pain and tingling by pinching my two shoulder blades together...
I get the same thing on my left side around the shoulder blade someone said diabetes but iI had been going to a chiropractor for my neck, hip and back and it started after my last treatment.
Am I invisible here?
To everyone posting asking what the solution is I have posted a message above and also a you tube link. I believe this is the cause and the exercise will help you tell if you have a weak muscle that needs to be re-trained.
Give it a go. It is working for me!

Ive got the same exact thing.... its driving me crazy!!!! i honestly thought i was the only 1.... thank god for google!
Oh, i forgot. ... someone said that it felt like something crawling in under their skin on their back under the right shoulder blade.... well that's exactly what i thought i had, i thought there was some kind of bug or critter growing inside me..... CREEPY
Hi every one. I am an 18yo man. About 4 months ago I went to see my doctor for this same problem. When I was there they took an x-ray of my spine. They have confirmed that the tingling in my upper right back is caused by a very mild scoliosis. Because the spine is bent to the side my nerve is acting up. If any one is experiencing back pain near the tingling area on your back, then please go to your local hospital to get checked on.
I looked this issue up since I've had tingling for the past few weeks rather often. On top of health issues, one simple solution could be poor circulation. For some out there, this could easily be a symptom of an ill fitting bra. I recently purchased some new ones, which I've worn every day. Since then, I've had this tingling happening quite a bit. After researching this, I loosened my bra's back straps and no more tingling! So ladies (or guys?), try getting one size larger or an extension to prevent your bra from creating poor circulation. Of course, there are quite a few possibilities (Diabetes, Tumors, Nerve Injury, etc.) so if this doesn't work then you should go to a doctor since it could very well be a medical issue. Also, I do have poor circulation in my hands (especially when I sleep) so it's no surprise that this occurs in my back.
I know this question was from last year, but I am totally blown away by the descriptions...I too have what sounds like the same thing except mine is on my left side, near the base of the shoulder blade near the spine! People look at me as though I am crazy when I try and describe how it feels! Omg. And I stumbled upon this and found out there are many who have the exact same thing! I find that when it itches, I MUST scratch it, I can not ignore the itch. And I also be quite aggressive with it as the numbness is so freaky, I hate that feeling! I am going to have to do more research. Oh and my GP (family Dr) thinks I am crazy. I do have many moles on my back - a product from growing up in the blistering sun in Australia and New Zealand, and cancer runs in my immediate family. It used to only occur randomly and not often but in the last 2mths it has turned into a constant issue...even when I sleep I get woken to scratch and stretch the muscle as far as I can - this seems to help. IfI find anything, I will post it on here for all to see :) happy scratching!
Crab Do you have a diagnosis? I feel like something is moving in my back too scary
Hi srivibala: I saw my Dr and all she said to me was: "There is nothing out of the ordinary there"... er...ok... nice diagnosis Doctor!! hrmph! So, nothing as yet but I will continue to look. Good luck and if you find any info, please let us know :)
I could not get a diagnosis either. I went a while ago though. I think maybe we should see a specialist, but they are expensive.
