Let us know what it is. I also have one just to the left of my back below the ribcage. It twitches too. Since I have had a twitchy eye for a while also, I'm thinking it's just nerves being stimulating. I know I don't get enough sleep... so I am going to try to get more to see if that helps. Anyone else having insomnia along with the numbness? Mine goes away after a few minutes.... but always comes back.

Guys - AN UPDATE - i was the one signed in as GUEST whose paragraph started as:

guys - oh my god - i am going through the same thing - a weird tingling sensation to the right of my spine - near my right shoulderblade. It feels like somebody is lightly putting their hand on my back.

UPDATE: my back is clearing up - two things were different in my recent schedule that might've casued this: i started playing Playstation again, and i was playing a racing game that gets me very tensed up, and i think from gripping the controller really hard and mashing on the buttons, that made my back all funny, and 2nd - we recently bought new couches, and my father's legs keep slipping off of his couch, so without bending my knees, i lift his legs back into the couch, and that also might be the culprit. I stopped playing Playstation and lifting my father's legs onto the couch (i found a remedy for that issue) and my back is clearing up. Ask yourself this question - have you been doing anything new/different lately that might be affecting your back? And believe me, there are some activities that might strain your back that you would'nt think that it could affect your back, but it probably does.

I've also got the occasional tingling sensation, on/under the skin, on the inside of my left shoulder blade. There is an accompanying mole. It's bothersome that the poster above had his mole removed and yet the sensation didn't go away :-(

This is usually due to upper cross syndrome where muscles are stressed due to irregular contractions. This can be attributed to wrong posture and muscles have already developed to accomodate imbalanced weight distribution of the body. I have mine for years and still haven't checked with a physician. My back below the left shoulder blade becomes uneasy and starts to tingle at times especially when sitting in front of the computer for long periods or when riding the bus for hours. I have also noticed that my lower back have become very well developed compared to my chest and abdominal area. Please search the internet for upper cross or lower cross syndrome because these are some of the major reasons for back discomfort.

hmm i have the same thing, I'm 19 and have had it since i was 12, itchy, singleing, numb sensation below right shoulder blade in an area as large as my hand, apparently its nerve damage from a bad case of shingles that i did not even know i had.

Hi... I have the same thing happening to me. The tingling is between my left shoulder blade and spine and if feels numb at times. Not much pain but it is really annoying. My though is that it has something to do with shingles as mentioned above, however I will not rule out a pinched nerve.

I am basing my hypothesis on the fact I had a recent outbreak of shingles in the exact same spot. I was given a weeks supply of medicine and it cleared up the spots, but I believe some symptoms remain and the back "tingling" is one of them. Apparently shingles breaks out and stays in sections of the back that wrap around to your front. If you get shingles on your left side, it won't show up on your right side I believe.

So, if the back is tingling on just one side (left or right) then it might be something to do with shingles. If it is on both sides, I would guess a pinched nerve.

Hi

I have exactly the same thing on my left side under my shoulder blade and toward my spine.  Am going to see the GP as I also have an itchy spot, but the tingling comes and goes.  Had it for about 2 months, and will keep checking this site to see what others come up with.  Sort of nice to know you arent the only one out there with the same wierd symptoms.

Hi Anna - with me it was two major changes in my daily activities, like i said in my post. 1) i had to keep lifting my father's legs back onto this slippery couch we bought that is made of microfiber - i do not recommend getting a couch in this material - it is very slippery, and your legs want to slide right off the edge,

2) i was playing this intense playstation racing game, and my fingers were tensing, and that radiated to my arms and then my back.

I found a solution to the couch problem, and i put my playstation away, and my back completely cleared up.   :o)

I have the same thing, bottom of my right shoulder blade where I have a mole. It has been a couple of weeks now and comes and goes, no pain just tingling. I thought it was a woodtick at first. If it persists beyond another week or two I will go to the doctor. Very odd.

i too have recently developed this strange sensation in my left side shoulder blade area. My husband is a paramedic and rolled his eyes at me when I tried to describe my "symptoms" - I was happy to find a whole community of people saying the same thing so I could validate that I'm actually feeling something odd.  I'm a 40 year old woman, never smoked, glass of wine here and there but nothing major, never had shingles or any kind of injury - healthy weight and I work out with a trainer three times a week for about three years now. After reading through all of the comments I believe this is probably associated with tensing up (like the person who was playing a new video game) because I recently started training for a triathlon and riding my bike long distances - I do notice myself tensing my arms and shoulders while I ride. The symptoms began shortly after (could also be the swimming which make sense too). I am scheduling a deep tissue massage this week and will see if that helps. Good luck to you all.

It seems like every one is starting off with more of less the same sentence... I, myself am having similar issues too, sadly. I will list my issues as it would be better for all to read and relate:

Location: on my back, right hand side near the bottom ribs

Sensations: tingling, creepy crawley like feeling, warm / burning like, at times feels like fluid dripping.

Other: goes away after walking / exercising; laying in bed is ok, but sitting with back against wall/car seat senstion starts.

Hope someone can helps us all get rid of these creepy clawlies inside.

Hi have had the same symptoms for around 3 years. Tingle and numbness right shoulder blade.  It is pretty constant and drives me crazy.  I went to the doctor when it had been happening for a couple months.  My doctor thought it was due to a rib being out of place. he could feel my rib back there and thought it had moved at some point and was causing nerve issues.  this could have been due to an old Kung Fu injury.  There is a large mole in that spot on my back that has been there since I was a kid.  to be safe he sent me to a dermatologist. the derm said the same thing, that it wasnt from the mole and that it felt like an out of place rib, probably nerve issues.

Its now 2 1/2 years later and the symptoms are still there. I no longer have health insurance and the mole is looking weird, wish I would have pushed to have them remove it back when I saw the doctor
