Since we listen abortion discusses all the time, I have heard so many different opinions. That was too much for me, so I do not know any more what truth is. I was thinking all my life that woman has right to choose if she will give a birth or not. Now I am not sure about it any more. I would like to hear professional’s opinion about personhood at conception.
I know that our passions run hot about abortion. I know for one philosopher who has repeatedly been told that he is naive to argue about abortion philosophically. They were telling him is it possible that he does not realize that abortion is not so much about fetuses as about sex. I realized that those who demand to live the sexual revolution must have abortion as a backup. This kind of people needs it as a trump card, when other means of birth control fail, so normally they do not think too much about personhood at conception. They need to perform an abortion so there is no wondering question if fetus is a person or “it”. The personhood of the fetus is clearly the crucial issue for abortion. For if the fetus is not a person, abortion is not the deliberate killing of an innocent person. All other aspects of the abortion controversy are relative to this one. I think the law must respect a right to privacy, but killing other persons is not a private, then public deed. Definition is that persons have a “right to life” but non-persons, such as cells, tissues, organs, and animals, do not. I think fetus has right and it has personhood at conception.
Calling a fetus or fertilized egg a person is contrary to Exodus 21:22: "If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no
mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him: and he shall pay as the judges determine."
If the fetus were a person, God would have commanded that the person causing the death of the fetus (that her fruit depart from her) should be automatically
put to death according to an eye for an eye, life for a life.
Have these fundamentalists who believe personhood automatically comes with conception not read their Bible? To vote for this amendment is to go
contrary to God's law.
