I am really interested in seeing the before and after photos of this type of surgery. I have asked the clinic 3 different times for photos. No results, which I think is odd.

I have seen the pics that were recommended on Google images but I need to see more outcomes. Possible a procession over a 4 month period.

I want to schedule surgery but need sufficient time to heal before I go back to daily activities as to not scare anyone.

Any help or guidance to where I might be able to view photos would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
T
Hello, as far as any signs of it returning, I do not see any. It has been a little over a month, the area they operated on still looks a little different than the rest of the eye, a little discolored, but it is looking better over time. The doc said it should take a few months to look its best. Either way, it looks much better than before! I am actually getting the other eye done next week, and I wouldnt be doing that if I wasnt happy with the first procedure. As far as the pics, I am sorry that I dont have any, and that was an issue when I was looking into the surgery, but I will tell you that after 1 month, you would only be able to tell that I had something done if you knew and looked very close. After one week my eye looked much better than the first few days, with some redness in the inner eye, but that was the time I was comfortable returning to work and going out in public. I would say you have to look at how bad your conditon is now and weigh if its worth going through the week or two where your eye doesnt look so great. For me, it only looked "horrible" for a few days, then got much better after. I hope this helps!
Kayti,

thanks for the reply. this is really encouraging news for me. I have lived with a ping in both eyes for almost 20 years, the left being worse than the right. Most of the time my eyes are slightly or fairly red and I am sick and tired of people asking me if I have allergies or if I am high or drunk. can't wait to schedule my surgery. keep me updated after your next surgery. lots of luck. talk to you soon .
Kayti are you still around? I have some questions for you.
Yes, Im still around. I had the second eye done almost 2 wks ago. Its taking longer to heal this time because it bled a little after the surgery. Other than that, it is doing well and the redness is clearing up. My other eye looks great, its been almost 2 months for that one and u cant even tell i had anything done.
congrates kayti, keep us all updated as I will after my surgery. lots of luck
Hey Kayti (hope you are still around)

Have been following your progress over the while and reading other experiences. Your experience is encouraging and a relief to read...finally.

I too have this annoying problem and really want to do something about it. My eyes are often very sore, gritty dry and red. Am also starting to get some obvious red veins running to the pinguecula which is awful. My eyes WERE my favourite feature, as many others have said, interesting. Anyway have researched this to death, holistically, medically you name it, and as everyone else have come out with mixed and minimal information, (well thats positive anyway)

I have read up on the autograft (no stitch approach and seems to be very successful) even a 1% recurrence rate which is encouraging., or 10 depending on where you find your info.

Have also made an appointment with an Orth next week to discuss options.

I am VERY scared to have it done, and have been continuously nervous for weeks.

Really want to know what to expect DURING the proceedure, is it terrible and painful? and how do you not see whats going on?. Also did you have some noticeable vessels and have they gone or improved? Apparently they will be doing mine at the same time.....I understand that they will take a while to heal, I am expecting that.

Would REALLY appreciate some feedback from you, am quite desperate to get some answers now. Can anyone that has had this done shed some light on my questions please... thanks Sonia :) (from NZ)
Hello Sonia...I feel your pain. It is very frustrating and painful to experience this problem, but I have to tell you how glad I am that I had it done! I too was unsure of the procedure when I had it done because I could find little on the subject, but I just had to put faith in that it would come out ok because I didnt see any other options. I was desperate for relief and no one would listen. The procedure itself is not too bad, where were u thinking of having it done? At harvard eye, they take you in and almost right away give you a medication that calms you down, I was very nervous and it makes you not really care. Then they put you to sleep, in a "twilight" sleep. This is where you are very out of it and dont really know whats going on, but you may be aware that you are in the operating room. The first time I was pretty much asleep the whole time and woke up when they were done. The second time I woke up while they were operating, but I couldnt see or feel anything because they numb your face. I also didnt really care because of all the medication, it is very quick, 10 minutes or so and you are done. As far as the recovery, the first eye healed very quickly, within 1 1/2 weeks you couldnt even tell anything was done. The doctor said this is atypical. The second eye took longer, its been almost a month and within the past week is when its looking almost like new, so that one was about 3 wks. With the second eye it was tough to go back to work when it was very red, but it was worth it, because before I was putting artificial tears in about 20 times a day to reduce redness and irratation, now its about 5 times. My eyes are still dry and probably always will be, but they are MUCH more comfortable now. Its been 2 1/2 months since the first eye was done and I see no sign of reacurrence. I did have some light vessels starting to grow into the growths, but they are now gone. Thats because they cut off that whole patch of sclera (white part of eye) and replace it with a piece from underneath your eyelid. I am happy to answer any questions, I know how scary and alone you can feel, but keep your head up because there is hope! :-D

Hey Kayti

Wow! thanks for your prompt reply and the info. I am actually in New Zealand, so will be getting it done over here. (Harvard sounds very good though). They are supposed to be very good and perform them frequently so that sounds ok. But you say 'twilight" I think they just give a local anhesthetic over here. My god sounds so causual and scary! Anyway I will go to my appointment and talk to the sugeon, I have been reassured he is very good, calming and will answer any questions. Its just freaky hearing all the bad experiences, kinda like when you have your wisdom teeth out. You wonder if something terrible will happen, like feeling or seeing what they are doing. But its soo nice to have found you guys, as I really do feel quite alone with this. None of my friends have this, but then again my eyes have always been sensitive and allergy prone with extreme dryness at times, along with sinus etc, (fish oil has helped) AND I am a bit of a health nut. Anyway surely if we wear UV protective sunglasses and keep our eyes moist and look after them they should'nt grow back? I am determined not to have them back!

I do hope the veins disappear too, I understand they don't sometimes but they do look like they are actually feeding the pinguecula, very strange little things they are!

So lovely to hear from you, I feel better. thank you soo much for replying, really appreciate it. I am supposed to be working but spend most of the time researching this!

(am designer so am always on computer too, which does not help)

Would love to keep in touch to share updates. my email is _[removed]_.

(not sure how else to get my email to you other than put it here)
Hi Kayte.. Congraculations... you are the luck one because you had the surgery and you feel yourself perfect...I have the same problem but I have only little pingueculas on my eyes on the nasal side I havent got dry eyes...I want to remove them because of the cosmetic reasons you know how a bad thing it is.BUT I am not have a chance to go to Harward::-( What can I do? IN my country this surgery can make but I am not sure, ıt will be good or bad for me...please give some ideas...!
Hi Ice

Kayti is great to chat to, so hope you get some answers from her. I recieved some info from her the other day but have not heard from her again. I'm sure she will be in touch with you.

Yes, its a pain and annoying, it is somehow comforting knowing there are others like us out there tho. best of luck....Sonia.
Hi Ice, where do you live? Do they have the autograft surgery in your country? That is where they take part of your healthy eye and put it over the pinguecula that they cut off. As far as being good or bad for you, I would tell you to go see a specialist. Not just an opthomologist, but someone that does the surgery all the time and they can tell you if you are a good candidate. I got different answers from different doctors, but when I went to see the specialist, he said he could help. So far, he has been right and everything has been going well since the surgeries. I had to pay out of my pocket for the surgery, but it is worth it. Most importantly, dont give up!
Kayti I am living in Turkey. I know the system u mention about it is a glue system as far as I know. When I go to my doctor she said me she cant make any operation for my pinguecula if she make this surgean she will make stick system u know. I dont know is there any hospital which make the operation that yu mention. I look at from the internet but there is no so much information about pinguecula. But I will do something dont worry I wont give up:):-) I hope I can do something...
hey guys i just wanted to share my experience because i know alot of you have questions on it. Well I did not have redness or dryness in my eye (Only had it in one eye) I just wanted to get it removed for cosemetic reasons and i felt it was just getting bigger. I just had surgery last week and it was nothing, it looks so much better now even though its still red and healing but in a few weeks it will be gone. If i were any of you id def get surgery.. i mean even if it does eventually come back which i think it wont if you just dont expose your eye to sunglight (bad UV rays) then you should be fine, and even if it does its a 20 minute procedure if it comes back in 10 years who cares do it again.. aleast you dont have to walk around with a big yellow spot on your eye, and mine was covered by my insurance- :-D
