I had strep throat at the end of July. After the 10 days of antibiotics I broke out in a horrible rash on my back that then spread to my chest and stomach starting its way to my upper arms. Quickly spread. No itching occurred with it. I went to the doctor after it started spreading to my neck. They diagnosed me with PR said there was nothing they could do it needs to run its course. Well, I did research on my own. After over a month of this horrible rash I have now been to the tanning bed 4 times for 10 minutes each, starting washing with Luke warm water in selsum blue and using aveeno excema lotion and I'm cured in just 4 days!!! No more rash!! Hope this helps

I am just confirming that tanning beds work. I am a dark skinned African American woman. I felt crazy walking into a tanning salon but it worked! I didn't take any medicine. I didn't rub anything on my skin. I did two 30-min sessions and it all started to go away. Unfortunately, I've had pityriasis rosea twice, which is supposed to be rare. The second time, in addition to the typical upper body patches I had a few patches on my face. I thought it would just go away and I found myself back at the tanning salon and asking myself why did I wait so long. I am just grateful for the first doctor who knew sun exposure/tanning beds could help. I went to a doctor the second time I had it to appease my family and the doctor had no cure to recommend.

Help!!
I just was diagnosed with PR although my doctor was unsure when she gave me the diagnosis as she could not understand how I revived it. It's been a week since these rashes appeared. Just yesterday it started bothering the heck out of me. It started on my chest and spreaded throughout my chest neck and back. I really want to know for someone who is not used to suntan beds- how many sessions and for how long should I do it?

Agree on all accounts! I went tanning three times and today after going yesterday for the third time it's pretty much gone!
Tan tan tan people! You won't regret it. I was on my 2nd month dealing with it and it was just spreading everywhere - my stomach, back, butt, thighs, calves. Once I went tanning it was like magic - it just started disappearing. The first and second time I went my stomach healed. The third time I went my legs and butt healed.
I'm so thankful it's almost gone!!! Have faith!

I've had it for over a month now. Two days ago I went and laid in a UVB only bed for 6 of 10 minutes; followed by a head and shoulders shower and zinc ointment. Yesterday i did a UVB only bed 11 of 15 minutes same previous after care involved. I woke up this morning and I almost can't see the rash any longer! One or two more days of this regiment and I will be fully clear skinned again!!!

Hi ... I've got it quite badly and work out a lot, look after myself and also go on holiday soon. I've been in tears after another GP visit came to the same conclusion that they can't help and I just need to sit and wait. Reading your post I'm going to get a sunbed after work tonight and not train, which will be hard!

Hey I’ve been dealing with PR for a while now and after a while I found out how to basically cure it in a month or less. So basically start off with taking the supplement L-lysine 3,000 mg a day(lysine is the most important treatment available, it’s what single Hadley cured my PR). Now you’re gonna want to buy some PrrEze it’s pretty expensive stuff but it’s the real deal, only cream on the market to treat PR and it won’t flare it up and after a couple of days using it it’s barley even noticeable anymore. Also tanning is a major key in getting rid of it as well so I started Going to a tanning bed so go tanning 3 times a week. Other treatment to help lower duration of PR include: hydroxyzine HCL or Pam(antihistamine), acyclovir (antiviral), vitamin C, milk thistle, and hydrocortisone . Also staying hydrated, eating healthy, and not stressing since stress makes it worse.

I got diagnosed with PR just over a week ago. I’d had very very faint patches for about 5 weeks around my boobs and rib cage area. Thankfully I never had the itchiness but I got checked incase it was ringworm. As they were increasing in size, amount of patches and getting pinker, that’s when I had it officially diagnosed. I read up on methods to try, and even medical suggestions from the doctors were small amounts of sunlight. As this was in the beginning of March, there still is very little sun in England therefore tanning beds seem to be a popular option on many threads about PR.
When I first went (only for 5 minutes, on a standing up one) I could see a huge reduction in colour of the patches immediately. After a few hours it suddenly looked ALOT worse, more like extreme heat rash all over my upper body and seemed to spread. The following morning it had calmed down and the PR had reduced. I did the tanning beds for the same amount of time (5 mins as I am very pale) for 3 consecutive days. On the third day my PR seemed to have tripled and looked truly awful, covering my whole stomach, boobs and starting to spread over my back. Tiny patches were spreading down my arms and legs. HOWEVER, 2 days later and it was all practically gone. Within a week (no more tanning) the PR has 95% gone and the rest are very very pale tiny patches.
I am going to do one more session and then no more. I cannot tell you what an improvement tan beds have made for my PR. It is the best advice I have found out there for it. I wasn’t prepared, like most people, to wait 3 months for it to ‘pass’. I recommend this method to anyone suffering and to just bear with your rash if it suddenly gets worse. Give it a few days to calm down and there should be a huge improvement.
