Hi,

In a few weeks I will be having this procedure performed by a laparoscope and completed throught the vagina. My ovaries and uterus will be removed leaving the cervix. My problem was that I would not have a period for two or three months and then when I did I would bleed nonstop for over a month.

Has anyone had this surgery performed this way? If so what can I expect afterwards. Recovery, sex, and what happens several months afterward. Could someone please tell me how it went with them?
I just had this procedure done but mine was all done laproscopically. They did not do any of it through my vagina. The doctor removed my uterus, left ovary and they also took my appendix- don't be surprised if they do the same for you. Apparently the appendix can cause problems later if not removed.

I went to the hospital at 7 am and I was home in my own bed by 8 that very night. I felt great - my parents and husband couldn't believe how well and quickly everything went. They sent me home with Aleve, a stool softner and Tylenol #3. I did end up taking a laxative on recovery day 8 since I had not had a bowel movement yet. Other than that no problems at all.

I wish you the best...The prep was the worst part of the whole procedure !

Like you, I had the very irratic cycles. It took over 20 years to find out that my situation was due to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (sometimes called PCOS or PCOD, or 1/2 dozen other names that mean the same thing). My hormones were all over the place- headaches, fatigue, whacky cycles that were totally unpredictable, reactions to hormone medications (BC pills included), cysts that painfully rupture without warning, worse acne at 32 than I had in HS... FINALLY I found a doc that LISTENED to what I was saying. She set me up for the Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy and Right-side Oopherectomy.
I have only has 3 days of light spotting since surgery, NO hormone headaches... WOW!... and my skin is clearing up already.

I just had this procedure done about 3 1/2 weeks ago. Though I had complications due to allergy to the anesthesia (knew going into it that I have this problem), the rest has been been WONDERFUL! The horible cramping, especuially on my right side- GONE! I feel fantastic!
My only concern at this point is how long the cyclic spotting will continue for me because we had to leave the Left ovary in to help with calcium absorbtion since I cannot take hormone supplements without deadly risks due to my allergies. When BOTH ovaries are removed, the occassional spotting tends to stop faster (if it ever even happens), with one or both ovaries left inside the body, it can continue indefinitely. This CAN be corrected with a follow-up procedure involving cauterizing the glands and offending tissues remaining in the cervical cap (uterine tissue used to close-off the top of the cervix), but most women who have this procedure done do not need that additional step. Be sure to check with your doctor on her/his practices regarding the surgery itself AND possibilities and information regarding follow-ups if necessary (video is great, or explanation with photos to show exactly what is done).

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU! :0)

I had this done in March 2008 and and was really a very easy recovery. It was a piece of cake. Within 1 week I was back to normal pretty much pain free. I am a34 yr old and no complications at all. Its much better then being cut open, had a great experience with it. Good Luck. NO worries.
