Hi, I have noticed that in PMS days my asthma expresses in more excessive way. I get an attack easier, it lasts longer. Is there any connection between PMS and asthma?
Hi, I have also noticed such a reaction and increased sensitivity of my lungs to external factors. There are many women complaining of the same matter, worsening asthma symptoms in days before and during menstruation. The most critical period for me is from three days before to four days in to menstruation. The rise in progesterone and estrogen shortly before menstruation increase the risk for asthma attacks. Postmenopausal women on synthetic hormone replacement therapy have double risk for developing asthma. So, it is advisable to avoid any hormones like supplements, birth control pills.
I too have the same issue..recently had an increased discomfort with my allergies and asthma. Infact, PMS aggravates any kind of pain, cold, or a simple tooth ache in me..
I've never made the connection between being an asthmatic and menstration, but now that you mention it, my asthma does actually seem to get worse a couple days before I start my period. I'm also on birth control. Hmm....interesting connection.
That is highly unusual that you have that problem! Can I ask, what sort of birth control is it that you're on exactly? I'd like to know because that could definitely have an impact. Let me know, okay?
I'm on birth control pills, Tri-Nessa to be specific. I haven't had any problems with them though, maybe a bit of weight gain, but nothing else. Ya know, it could be that there's no correlation at all for me, it's just coincidence, because I'm not that good about using my preventative inhalers regularly. Who knows....
Well, if you do, maybe that's worth investigating. I have a friend who does seem to have worse asthma when she has her period but you'd probably need to start working your inhalers first. Try that out if you ever have a chance and let me know what happens, k?
