Well, I was a virgin until the 11th of June. My boyfriend and I had sex on the 11th of June and the 14th. Both times, we used a condom and both times everything was fine. No breakage, no slippage, nothing. However, it being my first time + the fact that I'm only 18 and going off to college in the fall + the fact that my parents would probably kick me out if I was pregnant led me to the verge of absolute hysteria for about 6 days. I was so sure I was pregnant even though I now know that it is very very unlikely (because of how soon I was feeling symptoms and my fertility cycle, etc). I took a pregnancy test 2 days ago just to quell my fears and it said I was not pregnant. Today was the day I was supposed to start my period but I didn't.
I feel/felt PMS-y as I always do the few days before I start (bloaty, crampy, "wet" down there and tender breasts) but I read that all of those things are early pregnancy symptoms too. Could those 6 days of being a total and complete wreck have delayed my cycle a few days? And if it did delay it should I still be feeling PMS syptoms now?

Hi Sarah,
Stress is very powerful and it can affect your body system in many ways. If you were stressing about pregnancy these few days than your system might react as if your are pregnant.
How long after sex did you take the pregnancy test? You know that it has to pass from one to two weeks for the test to be accurate.

Yeah I refer to what I was feeling as "the verge of absolute hysteria" because that's a much better description than plain old stress. For about six days, I moped around, thought about it constantly, stayed up thinking about it until about 4-5am everynight, told only 2 other people (my boyfriend and one very close girlfriend) and tricked myself into feeling a lot of symptoms that I wouldn't have felt until at least 2 weeks after conception (aka, backaches, peeing a lot, fatigue, cramps...al of which i felt about 3 days after we had sex). Both my boyfriend and my friend said it was almost impossible considering that we were far out of my fertile window, we used condoms that didn't break and like I said, my symptoms were too early.
I took the pregnancy test on the 19th so it would have been a week after. My period should have started on the 21st. I took another one this morning (the 22nd) that also said I'm not pregnant but still no period. My friend (who is 25 and a nurse) said that it might have delayed it by 2-3 days and also that having sex for the first time can possibly throw off your cycle a little bit.

Well that is the change to your body and possible it might have affected your menstrual period.
If the second test also showed negative then you are probably not pregnant. You can always go to hospital and ask for blood test. This will give you accurate answer.
Keep us posted on your condition.
All the best

Well, My period came on the 23rd :-) Two days late but I got it none the less! I've never been so happy to feel crampy and awful! Haha All that worrying for nothing!
Hi Sarah I am glad that you are good now. I hope that this experience will help you in the future. Even condoms are not 100% protection from getting pregnant.
There are a lot of girls that come here with similar problem, and I hope that your experience will help them a lot.
All the best to you Sarah
