West Midlands Police Officers who smoke have been offered free hypnotherapy by the force to quit smoking as 100 remaining smoking rooms will be closed when legislation on lighting up in the workplace comes into force.
The Police Force will pay only one session for each officer willing to take up the offer and spend as much as £100,000 for 3,500 smokers. One hypnotherapy session lasts for an hour and costs around £35. If officers want and need additional sessions, they would have to pay for themselves. They have been already banned from smoking in uniforms in public.
Although the force already has one hypnotherapy specialist, they are looking to recruit three more.
West Midlands Police has one of the best sickness and attendance records in the country and by investing money in their officers, they believes they will save money in the long run.
