Well i had to go to the Er for an ingrown hair because it became so infected in such a short time and got so big and painfull that I could not sit down. The infection was so bad that they said that I was lucky that I came im when I did or I would have whent septic and may have died from the infection.
I was admited into the ICU and had to have surgary to get rid of the infection. and they could not close the hole where the ingrown hair was infected so that it can drane of any posible pockets of hidden puss and am still walikg aroung with a hole in my pubick area. So dont take a little air for granted it CAN KILL YOU if not treated right away and correctly because I tryed all that you did with the same results and ended up in the ER and lucky i did or I would not be writing this post.

I also suggest going to see your doctor and/or the nurse practitioner at your regular clinic, or NHS 24 (In the UK) This is an out of hours clinic where they can treat you, /without/ going to accident & emergency department (called the ER in the USA).
If the ingrown hair is /very/ infected, the clinic /will/ refer you to have it done in the operating theater ( the OR - in the USA) with just mild sedation (through an IV directly into a vein, usually by inserting canula/venflon ( a very thin tube) into the back of your hand, via a needle. The needle is then withdrawn, leaving the tube in - then the canula/venflon is taped down to hold it in place while you are being given the sedating drugs.
Also a local (topical) anesthetic /may/ be given around the site of the ingrown hair or boil as well. The mild sedation will make you feel relaxed and happy, like you've had a vodka or three, then passed out, and you not remember a thing about it. :It acts like amnesia LOL.
IF the ingrown hair or boil is VERY badly infected they /will/ give you a general anesthetic to put you to sleep. This is what happened to me, as I was at risk of blood poisoning.. DO NOT drive or operate machinery until 24 to 48 hours AFTER having sedation OR a general anesthetic , also arrange to have someone stay over for a night with you, just incase you become unwell or have a delayed reaction to any drugs given. It's common sense more than anything else. Not rocket science.
