I have problems with ingrown hairs all the time in my bikini area which totally suck.. HOWEVER, one time I had an unusually large one which appeared after I had hooked up with an Irish guy and it got so big and painful that I went to the doctor (it was the size of a golf ball) and it ended up being an f-in staph infection! THOSE things are very contagious and very very dangerous (and painful). If there's ANY reason it could be a staph infection get that mother checked out.

I shaved my pubic area for the first time on Saturday and the whole day it was irritated and then Sunday I noticed what looked like little red pimple-like bumps. I think it might be a rash of some sort because it burns and itches. I thnk I also could have shaved it raw because I used a gillette fusion razor and had to go over the area where the problem is multiple times and I put some pretty hard pressure on it for most of the swipes across it. If anyone could please help me with this. I won't be checking this website so if anyone willing to help could email me at ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed **

What if you do not know that the ingrown hair is an ingrown hair at all? wouldnt it be safer to go to the er in case it was something more serious? for one thing im pregnant and i am experiencing these problems and recently slept with some one thinkin everything would be ok but if it were more then just an ingrown hair tryin to heal then how could that affect my unborn? there are reasons people run to the er for these things WE ARENT DOCTORS WE DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS THATS THE WHOLE REASON FOR THIS ENTIRE THREAD RIGHT? jeez before getting on here telling everyone how ridiculous it is to run to the er understand that in all cases it is not just going to be an ingrown hair that we might be mistaking it for

what do i do, I knwo its not an STD, and i had never gotten any pimples down ther before. But I shaved dopwn ther a couple of weeks ago and the other days noticed a zit down there so i riped it open, it hurt a bit buit thought nothing of it, buit now liek three days later it is excruciattingly painful and its now a huge bump filled like a zit, so i took soem usuakl online help about softening the skin with warm water to sooth it and coax it out, the little scab came off in the hot bath and all the pus from inside the zit came out, but hen it looked liek a volcano was growing out of there and i didn't see a hair in it. so i fugured it would get better today, but it still hurt and i look and around the new scab is more pus, so i again wet it with a damp towel adn the juice came out and the little scab came off again, i applyed alcohol to disinfect it and try to see if there was a hair in there, i probe slightly with a sterilized needle but nothing,

CAN Anyoen hel[p
will this clear up by itself it just one pimpel gone wrong i think its never happened before but also i never shaved down ther befopre that day and i never will again

I would like to know what you did to treatit ,because I have the same thing going on. I shaved last week my pubic area and after a day in the hot yard on sunday all of a sudden this large painful spot appeared. the size of a ping pong ball. It has not come to a head but it has a very red-purple spot under the skin I cannot walk with out pain and I cannot wear anything down there. My God ,This is the most painful thing I have ever encountered. What should I do ?

it could possibly be mrsa, it is a type of a staph infection. if it is popping out of your skin and is super sensitive to the touch you should make a doctor apointment and have them test it. there is a community one and a hospital one, the hospital one can be deadly if it gets into your bloodstream. if you do indeed have mrsa they will put you on an antibiotic to make the infection go away. eventualy the pus on the inside will come out, when it does make sure you squeeze all of it out and it might smell really bad just to warn you. if it doesnkt pop on its own make another doctor appointment and they will lance it for you. i had this abouttwo years back on my lower stomach and it was absolutely no fun whatsoever to deal wih. good luck. sorry about no capitaization, my phone does not like me at this moment in time apparently.

This is an embarassing topic in NEED OF SOME SERIOUS FEEDBACK; NOT BICKERING ABOUT WHERE TO GO TO GET IT TREATED AND WHY!.... SO PEOPLE LETS GET AWAY FROM THE ER c**p AND DEAL WITH THE ISSUES (THE ONES THAT MATTER ON THIS PAGE)!!!

I have tried body scrubs; lufa (regular and plastic); scrubbing the sh*t out of it with a washcloth; hot compresses; poking it with a needle (i have had the Lava LOOK-A-LIKES BEFORE TOO,WHICH IF YOU DAB WITH TOILETPAPER GET OUT YOUR BRIGHTEST LIGHT AND A MAGNIFYING GLASS YOU DEFINATELY WILL FIND THAT HAIR... SOMETIMES THEY ARE DEEPER THAN YOU THINK SO BE CAREFUL AND USE LOTS OF ALCOHOL.....ps doctors dont like when you do this says it is not good just irritates it and makes it worse becuase of oils on your hand.... so be really careful wash your hands the area use alcohol and keep an eye out after find the hair,... also lots more exfiliating if you pull it from the root which is another no no,... but i have done it before and it turned out okay) SQUEEZING IT BUT THIS THING IS A DIFFERENT BEAST....

IT KEEPS GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER IT IS NOW THE SIZE OF A REGULAR MARBLE UNDER THE SKIN AND THE AREA SPANS SEVERAL HAIR FOLICLES SO I AM THINKING I HAVE MORE THAN ONE INGROWN WITHIN THIS AREA!!!!! :(

I have also tried leaving it alone and not shaving but it has been months and when it rubs on my jeans it is painful... so i stopped wearing my tight jeans which has helped some but still it wont come to a big enough head for me to get rid of it.

I have been to MY OWN DOCTOR (not the er) and she said not to mess with it to leave it alone see what happens so i am back to square one... however she said that they can be lanced (cut open) in a worst case senario which i think this is becoming

ANYBODY IN THE KNOW THAT HAS HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS AND FIXED IT? RATHER NOT GET LANCED!

-------------

Tips for those OUT OF THE KNOW:

Normally, i exfoliat every day for a week after shaving using alcohol after the shower (this normally works and helps with redness too)

I also alternate between electric razors and razors which gives my hair time to grow out some and time for the skin to heal.

I use vitamin e oil, but if it is too expensive you can get tall bottles of cocoa butter or shea butter to help with scaring (i have also used that clearasil ultra; Acne plus marks wash and mask--- it has a bleaching agent to help lighten the scars) dont go in the sun when there is redness and use sunscreen (preferably a non oily one that states it is "noncomedogenic" (say: non-ka-mee-doh-jen-ick, which means it won't clog your pores)

HOPES THIS HELPS IT USUALLY WORKS FOR ME BUT IF YOUR NOT VIGILANT THEY CAN BE MISSED; JUST MY LUCK I MISSED THIS ONE!

I sure hope this is not a medical professional. If so, I want to know where this person works so I can avoid that hospital at all costs. Proffesional? Try professional. Obsurd? Try absurd. If you can't spell 5th grade words like this, then I'd hate to have my life in your hands. I'll chalk the other mistakes up to typos.

It isn't necessary to go to the ER for an ingrown hair, but if the follicle has become infected, the pain can be severe enough to warrant an ER visit, especially if it happens on the weekend when routine doctor's visits aren't possible. I've had a problem with ingrown hairs for the past few years and they usually get infected at some point and wearing everyday clothing becomes painful. I always need an antibiotic for it to go away. Do what is right for you. We all have different pain thresholds.

i would like to say that you all are wrong.. A person should very well go to the emergency room if the place continues to swell and is draining. This could be staff infection, in which is very deadly..

Thank you for immediately noting the ridiculous advice by the previous advisor. I am 41 years old, and have never been to the ER. This kind of thought process will only be exacerbated under "Obama care". America wake up... Refrain from the ER if you have a zit.

You're an id**t. You're probably a cna who thinks they know more than they do... Learn how to spell professional before you tout you "expertise". My sister had a grapefruit size ingrown hair and had to get vascular surgery because it had gotten so infected. Also, I'm an ICU nurse and helping people who feel they need care is a persons right. Ever hear of EMTALA? You don't have the right to dictate what is an emergency just because your standards are different..

A person I know had to go to the er for this very issue...it might seem like no big deal but it ended up being life threatening so please don't advise people with an obvious infection not to go to the emergency room.
