Hi Guys. I had a positive experience as well. I started on 4mg of suboxone (2mg in morning, 2 at noon). When I found out I was press, my Dr moved me to subutex. I stayed on that dose and slowly tapered to 1mg in the morning and 1 at noon. I gave birth to a perfect 8lb 13 oz baby boy. No withdrawl symptoms for him either. We stayed in the hospital for 4 days just in case. He is now 1 and he is big and beautiful and smart. The only thing that happened, Drs say it has nothing to do with medication and is a common issue with first born white males...3 weeks after he was born, he started vomiting at night. I took him to the Drs 3 times and they kept sending me home and telling me that he was fine. I went to the ear and insisted they ultrasound his belly. It felt like he was storing all of his milk all day and throwing it all up at night. I told them that I though it was pyloric stenosis (where the muscle that connects the stomach and intestine slowly grows shut after birth. The food cannot leave the stomach and the baby gets no nutrition) they told me he was fine be he wasn't throwing up after each feeding, just at night. I insisted and said I would
Nt leave until they did it. The tech wouldn't be there for 3 hours so I waited while all of the Drs and nurses kept coming in and telling me I was wasting everyone's time. They had him drink some sugar solution in a bottle and as soon as they looked, they saw the liquid swirling around and staying in his belly. They immediately admitted us and the next morning he had surgery. They went in with a laser and opened
Opened the muscle. He now has 2 little dots on his belly and is so healthy and happy and big and strong! I did a lot of research and there is no correlation between that and subutex but I wanted to share that experience in case anyone's babys have similar symptoms. Always trust your mommy instincts and advocate for yourself and you Los!!! Good luck and congrats on getting your lives back on track, and don't worry. Just go as low as you can. I think that if the dose is split, there is never a half go concentration in you, so it is less likely to make it to ur lo, but i am not a dr and that is just my opinion.

My daughter had opiate issues many years ago and was put on subuxone/later subutex due to Lupus symptoms 6 years ago, and led to believe it was not addictive. She later found out this was not so, but remains on it, due to pain management. She had a healthy baby boy while on 8mg per day with no problems with mom in delivery, induction or baby afterward. She and he left hospital after 48 hrs. He will be 5 in August. Two years later, her next son, born in the same hospital, was also induced (lupus/high risk) and due to the negative comments made by a couple of the nurses on the last delivery, she had weaned down to 4mg per day. She brought the medicine with her each time to the hospital. Within 18 hours of his delivery, the nurses said he needed to go to NICU due to "breathing problems". (Both boys suffered from reflux until a year old when their diaphragm tightened) Mom and maternity nurses were shocked, and then we went into......you were taking subutex? by the nurse, however, the doctor didn't seem concerned that his problem was NAS or indicated this at all. It was then that she discussed his evident reflux with mom. At one point previous to the doctor entering the NICU, the nurse was tapping on my grandson's feet saying "Come on baby, Come on" as though he had stopped breathing! The numbers were going all up and down. So, when it happened again a few minutes while Doctor present, I asked what is going on, Doctor said, baby is fine, it is a loose lead! Anyway, by night, they were giving my daughter paperwork printed from the internet all about subutex and saying they were scoring him. So, the nightmare began.... he scored a 6--- 2 times and if one more time they would put him morphine. yes, his cry was a little pitchy on the start, and yes his arms shook from time to time. But that was ALL I could observe being an LPN. They also said the subutex was in his Meconium; however, could never show us the evidence. My daughter was a wreck and would NOT leave him. So, we waited and watched and he ate, and slept and acted normal. The threat remained for 3 nights, I had had it, asked to see the specialist, he said, the baby isn't showing signs, "Because, we won't put him down"! Anyway, No morphine was given...at one point he told my daughter to nurse the baby, she had two pumps going at one time...it was terrible.. Then I said, STOP, you are introducing the subutex back into his system? By then we were both so delirious, her husband was due back to work the next day. Day 4, the head nurse had stayed with baby midnight throughout, and told my daughter that had he been going through W/D, she would be begging them to medicate him. Another request to see the doctor, ..he was releasing him the next mornning.... it was their right, by law, to observe the baby for five days...They never told us that!!!! Here's the ending.... Our baby ended up with a $710, 618.00 bill to Blue Cross of PA....THEY REFUSED TO PAY...THE DIAGNOSIS DIDN'T FIT THE TREATMENT!!! However, I am sure my daughter suffers from PTSD of some sort...she is still a mess. So, she finds herself pregnant again and yes she is on the medicine, not by choice has herself weaned to 2mg per day, refuses to go back to that hospital. Is scared to death of what is waiting for her depending on where she delivers. I pray it goes smoothly without harassment and the Judgement!

I've been searching the Internet for information about being pregnant while taking Subutex & the effects on labor & my baby. I'm 6 months pregnant, taking about 12-16 mg Subutex a day, & terrified of my baby going through withdrawal:( & also that they won't be able to control my pain during labor. I keep asking my doctor questions & she doesn't seem to be concerned or have detailed answers... We tried for 8 yrs to conceive, but had just decided to give up until I tapered off Subutex when I found out i was pregnant, we were both told we would need IVF to have a baby so this is truly a huge surprise & I don't want to do anything to harm our dear little baby.
I'm scared that my baby will be born addicted & taken away to be treated in the NICU... I'm terrified he'll have to be given drugs to taper off my Subutex treatment... Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Mother of you are actively addicted or extremely sick. If you need it to stay clean then it's priority. Things are changing nowadays- DCF is changing how they deal with medicated assisted pregnancy, to give these kids and families a chance, and many hospitals are starting programs where moms can stay with their babies. The new research shows that breastfeeding and mothers contact is the best treatment for NAS along with Doctor supervised weaning, many women have antidepressants or pain meds for just pain that they HAVE to take for their continued health. My own son would not score on their scale if I was holding him- he only had occasional muscle tension (not shaking, just holding his legs out when you changed him) but other than that he fed well and did well. I stayed with him and Dcf did their thing, but if you are maintaining yourself well and are HONEST they cannot take your child. Get a therapist and have them speak up for how you are doing after baby comes. Have your med doc drug test you at every appointment during your pregnancy to show DCF if it comes to that! If you have had other children removed by them that may be a different story or if your homeless or a violent offender with active records- each case is different. Just remember you are the best treatment for your baby, and if they have to stay in hospital, it is only a tiny tiny space of time- for the REST of their lives you will be with them! And you will look back and it will be very small time period- it is not easy and I had PTSD from how I was treated back in 2007 before they treated addicts like HUMANS who have a RIGHT to TREATMENT. You don't punish a diabetic who doesn't change their bad health ha is fast enough. They know what they're doing with medicated babies nowadays and are starting to change the stigma. You have nothing to be ashamed of- you are TRYING. Another thing I want women to know is that studies show breastmilk passes such a TINY amount of Bupenorphine through that the benefits of breastmilk FAR FAR outweigh that and the combo of breastmilk and moms contact is by far the best treatment. That is why hospitals are working to made arrangements for moms to stay. Call around, speak up and don't wean off if you will have problems after. Your baby needs a healthy mama, firsts and foremost. Also many hospitals will not allow a mom to breastfeed if marijuana is in their system as it passes through much more than opiates. Please if anyone needs to talk reply and I'll post my email. I have worked in the field and been through this. There is light at the end- do not worry yourself to death.. I know exactly how it feels.
