A FOLLOW UP FROM ME - AFTER THE HYSTERECTOMY: Two weeks ago they pulled my uterus. It was enlarged and full of scar tissue, with fibroids now growing on the outside of it. Additionally, they took the left ovary which was full of scar tissue and cysts. There was a lot of pomp and circumstance about me taking it easy and healing from this surgery, but let me tell you, I felt better IMMEDIATELY. Whatever type of recovery pain I was supposed to be experiencing was NOTHING compared to the years of hell I went through due to this affliction. I AM ELATED. But also a bit resentful that I had to experience that for years before my last doctor figured out what was wrong.

As I said previously, I wish I had just received the partial hysterectomy in 2005, instead of the ablation.

I've been going through this exact same thing only to have my obgyn tell me it was unrelated. I've tracked it for 6 months and it definitely happens when I used to have a bleeding period. The pain is horrific. The bloating is so severe it hurts to walk or sit down. I'm so relieved to find out I'm not alone or crazy!!! I guess I'll have to go ahead with the hysterectomy. Thank you for your post!

Hi everyome! I am 27 yrs old. I had a tubal, just the clips, after my 2cd son in 2008. In 2011 or 2012 I had a uterine ablation due to heavy bleeding from endometriosis. I've had pain in my abdomen ever since, but of late getting unbarable. And its in my lower back now and shoots down my inner legs to my knees. Seems to be around the time I would suppose to be on my period. I have not had a period since the ablation. The pain is the strongest on my left side. And my bowels are foing the same thing as all of you. Nothing even touches the pain! My doc said hysterectomy but that scars me to death because after my tubal I ended up having to get a blood transfusion 2 liters. But my doc said only thing to do is hysterectomy. I thought I was pregnant too but all negative. I too think women should be more educated before undergoing a uterine ablation. Just do hysterectomy! Most people I know that have had an ablation end up with a hysterectomy anyway.

I just had a hysterectomy 9 days ago do to the ablation I had 7 years ago. I was told that scar tissue sealed up my uterus so the light periods I was having the last 2 years were building up in my uterus causing severe pain and IBS symptoms and urinary problems. So far so good. The swelling seems to be disappearing and I am glad to have it out!

I am 46 and had the Novasure twice - once in July 2012 and the other in Oct 2013 - to avoid a hysterectomy. My entire life I had light bleeding one day a month and that was my period until 4 years ago when my 2 of my fibroids suddenly grew to an enormous size. My uterus is now the size o a 20 week pregnant woman. But, after the first Novasure, the bleeding was still heavy - 3 days of actual hemorrhaging that put in the hospital for critical life threatening anemia. The first Ablation did nothing, but after the second Ablation the bleeding completely stopped. HOWEVER, since the second ablation, I have been having excruciating pain about twice monthly. It is so incapacitating sometimes I cry and cry and cry and pain medications only help slightly. I am now going to get a hysterectomy - something I was trying so hard to avoid - this summer. My suggestion, if you have 2 failed ablations, which it sounds like - consider hysterectomy...

I feel the same way. I trusted my gyno to let me know about the possible complications, but all she said was that there was a 15% failure rate -meaning that there was a 15% chance of still having a period. She also let me know about the 1% chance of having a uterine puncture. So that didn't sound too bad to me. However I am now looking at all of the pain, cramps, etc. of post ablation syndrome (I had a tubal a few years ago, so it is likely my fallopian tubes that are causing the continuous pain). Anyhow, I am an 'au natural' kind of girl. Loved my period, there children naturally, home births, natural remedies for everything etc. And so I decided 'why be so hard on myself? This is a no-brainer laser surgery...I had no idea that I was BURNING my UTERUS, and that it would scar over, and that the blood would still be produced each.moth, bit would have nowhere to go... I feel debarred that I did this to myself for really no reason other than to try to give myself a break from the heavy periods and accompanying exhaustion. Bit that was a walk in the park compared to what I am feeling now. I've never had much pain with periods, and am now in constant pain. There was NO reason to take out my uterus, and this is now what is likely to have to happen. I feel that I was NOT given informed consent. I was not told about Amy of these possible complications, it even about what was really going to happen during this procedure. It is the most unnatural, permanently invasive thing I could do to myself. I would NEVER have considered it had I looked all this up online. For the first time, I just trusted my gyno. I trusted the brochure. And I tried to be relaxed about the whole procedure and not make it out to be a big deal. That was how it was 'sold' to me...A way to go easy on myself. This has turned out to be nothing further than the truth. I feel excruciating emotional pain along with the physical. I pray that some woman, somewhere, makes a better informed decision.

I had the ablation March 21, 2014 for heavy painful periods I'm 48yrs old. Unfortunately the ablation failed. I've been in so much pain the lower back and pelvic area. Prior to the surgery, my doctor ordered an ultrasound of pelvic area and biopsy of my uterus. Everything normal. About 3weeks post- op I went in for an internal ultrasound. Dr. Called with results telling me the lining was thicker than she'd like and I can either wait til my 5wk follow-up or get a hysterectomy. I elected to give it more time. At my 5wk last month after pelvic exam The Phycians Assistant spoke to DR. then came back in exam room and Dr. said I need a hysterectomy. I'm scheduled for my Pre-op consult June 5th find out how she's gonna do it then surgery June 20th I never heard of post ablation syndrome til like 30mins. ago. So glad I'm not the only one w/ this moderate to severe pain. I've been crying thru this months period. I'm extremely anxious to get this done and pray it takes away all this pain.

Hysterectomies has killed thousands of women, and harmed millions I would suggest you go to HERS Foundation and read the facts about hysterectomies. That way you can make an informed choice whether you want to go ahead with the surgery. If you do not have a life-threatening condition, please read the many articles on the risks and complications of hysterectomies. Doctors do not inform women of these very common dangers.

I'm so sorry you have had to go through this. There are a few pages on Facebook that can help you understand more. PAS or PATS, HysterSisters and the HERS Foundation all have info on Post Ablation Syndrome and Post Ablation Tubal Sterilization Syndrome. I will be praying for you.

I have the same thing happening. I am seeing Gyn on Thurs. Probably going to tell me I need Hysterectomy. The pain is the uterus contracting trying to get rid of the blood. The blood is trapped and cannot come out.

I'm a blubbering mess after reading these posts.  I no longer feel alone!

I had the Novasure procedure done in 2009 to relieve me of 2 week long periods that had me cramping for days on end and left me severely anemic.  My GYN at the time told me I was the perfect candidate for it.  My insurance covered it, and my life was so much better after that up until last year.  In May 2013 I had my husband rush me to the ER because of the severe pains I woke up to.  I have a high tolerance for pain, mainly because I've been dealing with menstrual cramps since I was 10 years old.  I had 3 sections and one vaginal birth WITHOUT pain meds, so my husband was really concerned when I asked to go to the hospital.  i thought maybe my kidney or appendix was about to rupture.  A CT scan was performed, soemthign about a sack of fluid was found and I was sent home after about 6 hours.  Was advised to visit my gyn and when I did (the same one who performed the Novasure) he told me that it was probably something gastro-related.  He suggested that I also see someone so I can have my kidneys checked to rule out kidney stones.  He examined me and NEVER mentioned the possibility that I could be suffering from PSA.  Needless to say, a doctor that i trusted adn referred to others was no longer in my corner - why? He was no longer a particpant in the health insurance I was subscribed to.

It's been over a year that I've seen a doctor because I dont have health insurance ( I will as of Nov 1).  Now that I have been researching I hope to find a doc who understands PSA and will help me figure out how to get my life back to normal.  These pains are debilitating.  I was embarassed to mention it to friends because I bragged about how GREAT Novasure was and really tried to convince them all to consider it.  I dont regret those 4 years of practically no periods and pain.  I wish that I was told about the possibility that later on I might suffer from PSA.  I would more than likely still had the procedure done because I was desperate, but I would have been prepared and not afraid that my world was about to end.

Thanks to ALL of you who've shared your story.  I have hope.  I feel so much better about my future and my "female" health.

I had my 2 sons without pain medication, I've had numerous procedure's performed, a leep procedure due to spots on my cervix which were not cancer, I had my tubal performed in 2010 then in 2011 seen a new on/gyn said I was in perimenapausal then talked me into having the Novasure procedure, note it helped with severe bleeding however has caused the worst pain I've ever had!!!! Was told 2 years agoiI needed hysterectomy due to hematamora bleeding above uterus, well my insurance wouldn't cover at time, here I am in fetal position taking pain pills, using heat & cold packs cannot hardly urinate, sleep, think, had horrible bowel movement and it still hasn't eased this nightmare of pain, I am 41 years old no health insurance, and scared to death of this pain.... prayers to anyone dealing with this!!" My suggestion do not get ablation because thru all this pain its very frustrating sitting on toilet hoping there will be a menstruation but on no just hours, days & weeks of delibatating pain.... sorry for grammar typing on phone...
