Hi there. Good to hear everyone's views and reassuring too. I had an ablation in Feb 2016, UK, for heavy bleeding. Regretting it now as my symptoms are identical to yours. Hideous pain - knife/like and some bleeding during my 'period'. I had never suffered from period pain before and am going to beg my consultant for a hysterectomy. At times I can't go to work. The pain radiates down my legs and feels like there is an alien inside me creating pain.
I am taking codeine which helps kills it a bit. It's delibilitating and I feel for any woman who is experiencing post ablation complications. Seeing my consultant in two weeks. I will offer to do my own hysterectomy if he doesn't.

I am 47 years old. I had a uterine ablation done 5 years ago. Everything was great and I had no problems and no bleeding at all. About 5 months ago I started cramping every four weeks to the day. The cramping lasted 2 days at first. Now the cramping last about 4 days. The cramping is pretty much unbearable. It is in my ovary area and radiates around my back. The pain shoots down my legs. 4 ibuprofen sometimes helps and sometimes it doesn't. This month the cramping came after only 2 weeks. My abdomen feels swollen and sore during this time. Sometimes when I lean over when sitting, it is very painful.

Went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago. After a sonogram, he said I had a cyst on my left ovary and possibly endometriosis. Also did a CA 125 which came back elevated. And that is a worry now. He put me on the birth control pill.

Scheduled to go back for another sonogram in 4 weeks and he said I may end up with a hysterectomy. He was very vague.

I was so glad to find this site. I know I not crazy! Will let you know how the next visit goes.

These symptoms are the exact same as mine. All the way down to the stools! I have been to the ER, my obgyn, and a gastroenterologist! None of them told me or mentioned about post ablation syndrome! It took me 10 months to figure out that the symptoms were happening exactly 28 days apart! Now two years after it all started and lots of 800 MG of ibuprofen s I am finally getting a second opinion and looking at a hysterectomy!

Hello I had this done in September and have had constant pain, swelling and been admitted to hospital as I had a serious infection.
I saw my surgeon yesterday and the only option left for me is a hysterectomy which I am booked in for.

Have you had your hysterectomy and are you pain free.

thank you
Jayne

I had novasure done the beginning of 2010 after having periods so heavy they made me anemic. I do have PCOS (probably from my weight) but nothing else. I never had problems before that. No real period symptoms or anything. I had one really light period after the procedure and nothing else. A couple of years ago I found out that my estrogen was really low and it wasn't even forty yet. I am now on bioidentical hormones called the Wiley Protocol. The are natural compounded creams that you use daily to mimic your natural cycle of hormones. I sometimes have breast tenderness like I'm going to get a period but never did. I was told that if I still have my uterus that eventually it might have a period. Lately I can tell my body is trying to have one but I never really had one. It's nice not to have one but I'd be okay with having them again as long as they were normal and it meant my body was back in its normal rhythm. If I do end up having problems from the ablation the last thing I want to do is have a hysterectomy. I did find this doctor that can fix the ablation syndrome as they call it for people that have had trouble with the procedure. Good luck to you.

your story is so similar to mine, in 2008 I had an ablation, about 6 months later I had the sever right lower quadrant pain I too thought it was appendicitis and went to the ER, after a CT scan I was told I had ileitis (inflammation in my ileum, most likely Crohn's disease) What??? a month later I repeated the process and insisted that it seemed cyclical, saw my GYN multiple times after multiple ultrasounds and exams and was always told my uterus was fine and that the pain must be from the Crohn's Long story short I went through this for 3 years after multiple scan's MRI's colonoscopies, endoscopies and uriteroscopy, 3 GI specialist, 1st GYN, Urologist, Uro-gynecologist, and the final GYN who diagnosed me with Post Ablation and tubal sterilization syndrome, followed by a complete hysterectomy, I woke up from surgery and seriously the pain was gone and I have never had anything like since. I am on IV Remicaide a bilologic drug every 8 weeks to keep the Crohn's at a minimum. Boy what a journey... had I known I would have never had the ablation at the time of a D&C for my excessive uterine hyperplasia (excessive bleeding)

What a relief to hear similar symptoms to my own! I have also had an ablation 8 years ago and my pain only started 3 years ago. Only lower right side, also with pain in my lower back and into my leg. What is troubling me is that my pain is not related to my cycle as it happens at irregular intervals? I am very active and it seems to flare up when I run and cycle too much. My GYN recommends doing another ablation?

I had a Novasure ablation one year ago and wished I hadn't! After the procedure I continued to have regular but lighter periods for four months. The periods stopped suddenly so I figured the ablation must have been effective OR I was in menopause. I was 52. Since then I have had cyclical pain and cramping on my right side each month. In December I ended up in the hospital thinking I had appendicitis. Scans and ultrasound indicated that my right Fallopian tube was distended and my endometrium (which I shouldn't have after ablation) was thickened and a 'mixed substrate' of fluid/tissue. I am now 3 days post full hysterectomy, including both Fallopian tubes and the right ovary. I had a laparoscopic trans-vaginal procedure but the surgeon had to cut the uterus into pieces to remove it as it was so enlarged. When he cut it he says there was a thick mixed fluid Inside and the inside of my peritoneal cavity looked like it had been splattered with tissue......likely during each monthly cycle when it had nowhere to go but up and out the Fallopian tube. Sorry if it's TMI but my hope is to save anyone else from going through with ablation and ending up in my situation. Hopefully you've had some resolution since your post months ago!

Hi,
I posted below but after reading your symptoms thought I would add that my pain was cyclical but would also become intense for a few hours after workouts, no matter where I was in my cycle. Pain was almost like labour but focused on the right side which, it turns out , was affected the most by the failed ablation.

I feel so much better reading this. I really was beginning to think I was going crazy or was becoming a hypochondriac.
I had an ablation almost 2 months ago due to VERY heavy bleeding. I was back to work 2 days later and have had very minimal periods since.
A few months ago I started having horrible menstrual cramps. At first I wasn't sure what it was because I had never had cramps before. At one point, I was in so much pain that I went to the ER. Felt like I was being stabbed in my left lower pelvis and the pain was shooting across my back and down my leg. They attributed it to my IBS.
I was due for annual exam so mentioned this to my gyne. Sent for blood work, CT scan and intravaginal ultrasound.
Results showed significant scarring and calcification from the ablation. More fibroids than before the ablation.
I never thought about it but my bowel issues are work about a week before my period.
I have a hysterectomy scheduled for May 23rd. Just hoping to feel "normal" again.
