yesterday i had endoscopy to remove my kidney stone
the operation is painless till you feel anesthetic but then you feel pain till you get removed the pipe and then u have pain when ever u urinate that too for two days
I had a kidney stone removed last night. I went to the ER last Tuesday (8 days ago) because I had severe pain in my stomach and the right side of my back. After many test, they determined I had a 5mm kidney stone. They gave me pain killers and sent me home with a strainer to catch the stone. They said I should take the stone to a urologist for testing to see what may have caused the stone to form. I went home and the pain went away until Monday. Then, it came back worse than before. So, I went back to the ER. after a sonogram it was determined that I had not passed the stone and would not be able to pass it because it was stuck between my kidney and my bladder. They said I would be spending the night and having surgery to remove it the next day.
The operating rooms were fully booked until 9pm Tuesday night. But I had no pain in the hospital due to the meds. I had the surgery and came out of receovery in pretty good shape. I stent was placed because of swelling. The dr said that if he didn't place a stent, I would have the same pain as I had before the surgery.
I slept through the night Tuesday after the surgery with no pain medication. I feel ok. It does hurt to urinate. It burns alittle, but it doesn't cause me to scream, just grit my teeth alittle. Would comes out is very pink/red. The dr said that would happen. I am suppose to have the stent removed in a week. It is going to be done in his office. He said it take 1 minute or less to remove it.
After reading all of the posts, I am alittle nervous about the week ahead. I feel VERY fortunate about how I feel right now. I just hope I don't take a turn for the worse. I was released from the hospital at 3pm today and we took our son out to dinner tonight for his birthday. I was able to eat normal. And I have very minimal discomfort, mainly when I need to urinate.
I guess I will see what the week holds for me and let you know. But I just wanted to post my experience because it has been pretty good. The pain I had before the surgery was simply NOT bearable. I could not sit, stand, sleep, eat, drink, go to work, drive.... I could not function at all. So, I feel this is a huge improvement and I can deal with some discomfort when I urinate. I hope this helps to ease the mind of someone getting ready to have the surgery.
So, a month ago I was having quite a bit of flank pain, had a CT scan which revealed I had a 9mm stone in my right kidney. Per the urologist I saw, I had lithotripsy performed on Tuesday, July 24th. No stent was placed and post-op I was passing a lot of "sand" and small stones. By Thursday evening I was feeling pretty good, but at 4 a.m. on Friday morning I woke up in the worst. pain. EVER. It wouldn't go away - 2 hydrocodones and four advils (per the urologist on call) didn't work. I went to the ER... morphine didn't even touch the pain. The CT scan revealed I had ANOTHER 9mm stone lodged in my right ureter, along with smaller ones in my left (which I was unaware of) and my kidney and ureter were swollen (hydronephresis) due to urine being blocked). I was admitted and had surgery that afternoon.
The urologist tried to remove the stone but it "kept slipping back", so he blasted it and removed 9 pieces and also placed a stent. The stent was very uncomfortable and I had to have it in for a week. During that week, I had another HORRIBLE pain attack on Tuesday and saw a dr. in the urology practice. They couldn't diagnose what was wrong and just upped my pain meds. About an hour after my stent removal (the stent was about a foot long), I had another horrible pain attack. They did an xray which revealed nothing. My urologist just said it was my kidney going into spasms.
Now, here it is Aug. 28th, and for the last two weeks I've been having the same kidney pain as I did before my two surgeries. I just had a CT scan done this morning which revealed I have no stones. I'm totally baffled as to what could be going on.
Here's my question: For those of you who have had surgery for your stone(s), did you have residual pain afterwards (even WEEKS or months afterwards) - even though there is no stone?
Sorry about the novel, but I'm just concerned and looking for answers.
I had the stent in for one week. I passed blood clots for about a week after which felt exactly like passing stones (if not worse)
I just had my second endoscopic kidney stone surgery in two months, and I'm glad the stone is out! The pain from the stone was much worse than the after-effects ofthe surgery. I had blood clots and spasms, but they painkiller have helped. It's taken me a few days to get back to normal, and to go number 2. The meds can make you constipated...Good luck to all of you!
