If she has recurrant stones get her doctor to get her parathyroids checked. It is quite rare but can be a solution. I am about to have one removed. It is a very simple op.

How long did it take for your pain to subside and what was the reason for so much post op pain?

I had endoscopic kidney stone laser surgey a week ago. The surgery was on Wen. and I went home unable to pee. The post-op nurse said it was typical to feel like you had to pee when you really didn't. (drops of blood came out). By 10:00pm I was in severe pain, went to E.R. had a catheter put in. I called my docotors office Thursday morning. I was suppose to setup an appointment to have my stint removed. I told the nurse I had just had a catheter put in at the E.R. and she said we should still wait until Monday for my post op visit. On Firday night I was back at ER getting another catheter as blood clots had clogged the first one. I was told to drink lots of water and I did. By Saturday night I was back at ER as my second catheter was clogged with blood clotts. This time they put in a bigger more painful catheter, which could be flushed out. On Monday I went into docotr's office for post-op meeting. Was X-rayed and had my bladder washed out. They were ammazed at the number of blood clotts in my bladder. I had Kidney stone pain from stone particles, from blood clotts (it is the backup in fluid that causes the pain). I had bladder retention pain, I had catheter installation and removal pain, bladder spasms pain and worst of all was the bladder wash. Don't think going in for laser Kidney stone surgery will be in and out. I had a week in hell. I am feeling better now.

It's only bad for a couple days=( seemed to get worse after stent removal, then approx 72 hrs after- starting to feel better

The pain after the surgical procedure is nothing compared to the pain before. If the doctor puts in a stent, there is discomfort with that, but again, it can be controlled. You probably won't want to go to work or do much else, but there is more discomfort than pain.

Hi!

I had kidney stones removed on monday under, and lazered on the 3rd Dec and the pain is much better today. (7th)

The stones were in my left kidney and in my urethra tube blocking me from urinating and made my kidney swell up terribly.

They also placed a stent in the tube to allow flow of urine as it was apparently so thin and was closing.

However before the opp i had a terrible pain in my left hip.

The pain in my lower abdomen is crazy sore. 5 days later. and am on schedule 5 drugs.

Please let me know if this is normal.

Thnks!

I had very similar situation...after having stint removed- my pain worsened & I thought it was worse than the original pain I felt w/ the 7mm stone. After about 48 hrs- pain began to subside...here I am 2 months later & I'm perect- it was a slow but steady recovery after those miserable 48 hrs

Severe pain lower abdomen/L flank. CT showed 11mm stone L ureter. Ureteroscopy with lasertripsy was performed. A stent was placed, to be left in for 2 weeks. Moderate discomfort. Sent home on Pyridium, Macrobid, and Lortab. Two days later, elevated heart rate, and blood pressure, along with palpitations. Went to ER, urine showed infection. Changed Macrobid to Cipro. Three days post surgery, having mild discomfort from stent, and passing a few clots. Hope I can tolerate stent for two weeks.
