yes i have been feeling the same symptoms heart pounding and trouble sleeping, i also have a heart murmur so which means my heart beats faster always, but this problems we all have been having is i think has to do with sinus, try covering ur head when going to sleep, i have always had sinus problems but these days seems worst and didnt have trouble sleeping until recentl. Ill have to ask my doctor about it more, but usually ur body will tell u whats wrong. its so hard to sleep when ur heart is just pounding and u wake up with anxiety, dizziness. Really see what you hve been doing different in ur everyday life and, as for me i just started this new medication which i think is the corse of my sinus, A dust free environment is always good too. I though i was the only one with this problem but i hope this works for some of you. take care guys, and slow down heart just a little so i can sleep.
same here guys.
i have the pounding all nights and days.
night is worst as it interfere with my sleep!!!
I think it is the kind of food that trigger it.

Hey there..
you may have a hyperthyroid condition. It makes your heart beat really fast and such.
P.S. are you guys Americans?? (the beauty of universal healthcare!.. I'm Canadian and I could have an aneurysm or a heart attack right now.. or.. anything.. and.. free..!)
It's too bad your country doesn't care about people like you.. who aren't loaded with cash..
best to you.

I would go back to a different doctor. It sounds like way more than just an inner ear problem. How does heartburn connect with an inner ear infection? I generally prefer traditional methods if possible. Try Oil of Oregano, it's a really powerful anti viral/bacterial agent. Make sure to follow the directions carefully though, it can be harmful if you take to much. If you are having trouble sleeping you can always try traditional methods. Melatonin, Valerian root, warm milk, read a book. I listen to audio books on my ipod. They say white noise really helps with sleeping.
Good luck !!

Hi folks, I am a 23 year old male and suffered with your symptoms since I was 16....
It all feels VERY physical, Racing/pounding heart.. Fear of heart attack.. Bloating/Digestive Problems... Dizzyness... Extreme Hot/Coldness of head, feet, hands... Irrability, Lack of consentration, loss of sex drive, loss of apetite, Sleepless nights, Sensitve to bright lights ....... For years I suffered with these terrible things untill I decided enough was enough.... I was diagnosed with Anxiety disorder... aka Panic Attacks!! .... DO NOT DISMISS THIS as I did for many years and it only worsend my symptoms, even if you think... "Im not stressed, Nothings going on in my life I need to worry about... Somethings serious is wrong with me!" Although panic attacks feel serious, no one has ever died from panic attacks... and a panic attack is a natural thing our body does, but at the wrong time... Panic attacks are actually our 'fight or flight instict' which dates back to when we had to run from predators etc....
Everyones symptoms of panic attacks variey... from just a slight feeling of dizzyness to a feeling as if someone is stranggling you.
Although the symptoms feel very real... of which they are, they are worsend by your own mind! ... Its difficult to explain without writing a books worth of stuff about this but its a VERY common thing and unless you know what it is, it can be very frightening. When any of you next get these symptoms, just stay calm ... take long, slow deep breaths into your stomach and try your best to relax (Yes I know very difficult) ... But most symptoms will subside within 30mins .. couple of hours tops.
My trigger seems to be strenous excercise and eating certains foods causing bad bloating. But people have different triggers, you just need to find a trigger and learn how to manage it.
If any one would like some more info on this please feel free to email me and I will give you more info on what helps me. Alex

Hello,
Been reading a lot on here about palpitations and other alarming symptoms. I am 36yrs old. When I was 17 I had an episode of heart pounding. I took a deep breath and held it for a long time. I passed out. Went to hospital and did the various tests. Everything was normal. Unfortunately I wasn't convinced. I was determined that my heart stopped beating and I had a heart problem and couldn't stop thinking about it. For the next 5 years I went from doctor to doctor and test to test. Had all the tests. Nothing there. My heart was fine. BUT, in my mind I was sure all these doctors were idiots. Daily palpitations, flip flopping sensations daily, adrenaline rushes that drained so much energy I could hardly walk afterwards. Dizziness, nausea and even chest pain. Many more symptoms. What developed from my dwelling was panic attacks. Your mind can get so focused that something is wrong that every sensation is physically exagerated. The feelings and sensations are real. As one person posted earlier....It's a brain problem and isn't funny. It is serious. I lost 10 years of my life simply because I didn't believe the doctors and dwelt on my heart. Got to the point that when I woke in the morning my very first thought was "is today the day I have a heart attack".....It was this way for almost 10 years. Please don't do this to yourself. It's hard, but if your heart does a flip flop in your chest don't panic, don't freak out. If it's the first time you have experienced this by all means go to the doctor. If you have experienced this many times over years I have a little quote from the very first doctor I went to when I was 17 years old. After running to his office once/twice a week for over a year he finally said "if something was wrong with your heart you would be dead by now." Of course I didn't listen to him. Spent the next nine years chasing doctors and dumping more money than I could afford. As a previous poster noted. Need to find what triggers it. Could be anything, even something you think is benign. I will list the things that I know cause my initial palpitations and heart skipping. The rest is my mind. When it happens reassure yourself or it can compound and control you and you could waste the next tens of your life. Especially you younger people.
Everyones body is different. So what effects me the most may not effect you in the same way and vice versa.
Alcohol.....this really stinks...but if I party to hard my heart will flutter or pound on and off sometimes for days
Nicotine.....this one stinks too....I dip smokeless tobacco...Many times after an episode I can tie it to an increase of tobacco use
Eating....your body is locked into a routine...Sometimes if I miss one of my meals my body will react. Could be gurgling in chest/stomach or heartburn. Then I dwell on why. Next thing I know my heart may race or flutter.
Cold medications....Don't know why but if i take sudafed or simlar meds my heart will flutter for hours.
Pain meds...Here in the south we have Goody Powders (crushed aspirin). When my knee flares up I will take two of these a day. Sometimes after a few days of doing this I will have flutters or flutter sensations. After I have reassured myself I'm not dying I realize it all started with stomach sensations. But I dwell on the sensation and make it more than it is. The anxiety causes the palpitations.
Sleep...this is a big one for me...only five or six hours of sleep several times a week I am guaranteed to have the flip flopping.
Caffeine....This was the first thing I cut out years ago and did not notice a difference. But many people do. Also at the time I quit caffeine I was also convinced I had a heart problem and dwelt on it. So wouldn't make a difference anyway. But tons of people say caffeine increases their problems. Probably same effect as nicotine.
Everyone is different...First go to doctor. Listen to what he says. He/she isn't stupid. Don't let palpitations grow into something bigger and ruin your life.

i'm only 14, female, and i was just about to fall asleep. it's very late, and i had a hard day w/ lots of crying & stressing in the past 8 hours. but i layed down to fall asleep, and my heart had this hard, fast, & quick heartbeat. only one though. it make me jump and i felt confussed. but i waited awhile, because this has happened to me before. it's just 1 really quick, hard, heartbeat. but anyway, it kept comming back. i kept tossing and turning, thinking that it was the way i was laying. but it kept comming back. i got so scared, i ran to the computer to look up things on rapid heartbeat. but the thing is, it wasn't fast. it was just a sudden beat. i relized that this has been happening to me latley. it might be too much cafeine, or stress. but i'm very worried. im def. gonna contact the doctor about this. i'm very scared. sometimes i just get random pains in my side, or right now i just have a sudden sharp pain in the shoulder? but i dont know. i just need some advice on what this might be, or what i can do. thank you.
I was blown away when I came by and read all of your posts. I have been dealing with EVERYTHING mentioned for the past 1 1/2 years and seriously many many times have thought I was going to die. I now feel like I have to take Lunesta every single night to go to sleep because when I lay down my heart pounds SO hard it feels like its pounding through my chest and its very uncomfortable and impossible to sleep through. I get very tense, feel like I am shaking on the inside or that my entire bed is vibrating, sometimes when dozing off I feel like I am falling or fainting getting a very weird feeling in my head. I'll wake up in the morning shaking with my heart pounding and get really dizzy when I get up, theres been a few times where I turned around in the shower and thought I was going to fall over and pass out. I've been tested like nobody's business, had full cardiac panels done on me including blood tests, holter monitors, Stress test on treadmill, EKGs, Chest xtrays, Chest/abdominal CAT scan, GI scans, ultrasounds...Everything you can think of and they all come back perfect. I've actually been told I have one of the best blood panel results that drs have seen in a long time. I dont know what to do. My ativan helps me relax a little but I am always so uptight and ALWAYS have the thought something very bad is going to happen. I have never been diagnosed with anything, never been refered to anyone else or anything. Drs just tell me to deal with it, eat lighter meals and take my acid reflux medications as I do and it never helps. I feel your pain!
Kayy. I'm 15 years old and I'm always tired, but can never sleep. I'm always hungry, but wanna barf at the sight of food. I fainted once at school and I'm rapidly losing weight. Sorry If i'm replying to someone else' post, but I didn't quite understand how to post my own and I'm freaking out. I always feel weak and light headed. Please, if you can help in any way, I'd really apprechiate it!
Same I'm 13 and just last night I got a really really fast heartbeat I couldn't stand still kept blacking out my whole
Right side was swollen really bad bone pains major headache and beeping in my ears and and beating all over my stomach I kept shaking
For no reason I was really scared I told my mom I thought I was having a heart attack she didn't care
So I just went back to my living room had to delt with it worse day of my life!
My heart is still beating very fast and I have not slept for a day it's now 6:00 am
Hope I can go to the docs later
But I think it was just my anxiety and stress /:
I need help asap!
I can't believe so many people suffer with similar symptoms to myself! For the last 2 years I've had problems with a fast heartbeat, which worsens when I'm stressed, agitated. I've always been a nervous person but never had any problems until now. I've had ECGs, an exercise stress test, and an echocardiogram which were all normal apart from a fast heart rate. The Cardiologist dianogosed me as having Supraventricular Tachycardia (fast heart rate) and put me on a beta blocker, which has reduced my pulse rate to an average of 80-90 beats per minute. I still suffer though with thudding sensations and cannot lay down without feeling very aware of my heart beating. Relaxing techniques only help to an extent. It's a nightmare to sleep and I constantly disturb my partner due to my heart!
I am a 18 year old female, and have been having strong, sharp and very frequent chest pains. These occur in my upper abdomen, lower breastbone. I ask my parents, and they say it's just heartburn. I've looked up the symptoms of heartburn, and I know that what i have isn't just heartburn. I've taken antacids, but they do no help. I drink milk, and that seems to help. I cant sleep, it hurts to eat/drink, it hurts to take in/out deep breaths. I've read that the symptoms I am having could be a result of a peptic ulcer. If you have any opinions or help on what I have, that would be greatly appreciated.
FOOD ALLERGIES --- I will suffer through a lot of what you all describe after eating certain foods (especially when lying down). When I don't eat those foods, I don't have a problem. It is as simple as that for me. Oh, there is one other thing that affects it all as well, and that is the lack of sleep thing that pwfabe pointed out.
Some of the foods that I have an allergic/intolerance issue with are --- Yeast, Corn, Gluten (I have Celiac Disease), Dairy, Food with high Tannin levels (Coffee, Teas, Red Wine, certain herbs and fruits before fully ripened, etc.), Potatoes, etc., etc., etc., (yes, there's more to my list). The heart affect is not the only symptom I have with these, but it is near the top of the list of "most annoying".
I realize this does NOT mean that everyone who has these heart pounding/jumping problems is living with food allergies or intolerances, but it sure wouldn't hurt to give a fair shot to a really good elimination diet to find out. Yeah, it's tough at first, I'm not gonna lie, but I'm NOT sorry I did it.
.... And let's face it.... It doesn't appear that the majority of doctors mentioned in this thread have figured this out otherwise. An Elimination Diet doesn't cost you anything extra either :)

I have experienced the same sort of issues with sleeping and strange heart palpitations. I noticed that when I drink certain caffeinated beverages it makes my symptoms worse. I would suggest to pay more attention to your caffeine intake and experiment by reducing consumption to see if it helps.
