I am a 52 year old female and have all most all of these symtoms on and off for almost all of my life. I eventually was diagm=nosed GAD as I see many of you have been. I also have had stomach issues (heartburn etc). I have also had my blood sugar tested and although not reallly high, it has been 120-130 many times (I work at a hospital). I also realized that stress impacts all of these symtoms making them worse, then leading to anxiety. I took an anti-anxiety depression drug for several years and I did feel better. My prescription ran out so I thought I would see how I did without the meds. I am ready to get back on them beause I am driving myself crazy. I just wanted you all to know that I believe many  of the symtoms are inter-related. I am glad I am not alone in this because I often feel isolated. Good luck to you al!

Sounds like you all need to drink more water. 6 liters a day is simply for maintenance such as breathing and everyday normal activities. If you are doing any such exercise you must drink 1 liter for every hour of exercise you do. Also, eating simple sugars such as candy, chocolate, etc will raise your heart rate or make it beat hard. Caffeine...shouldn't have that either. Starches will raise your heart rate. Keep those to a minimum especially 5 hours before sleep. If, you are an athlete, you heart may begin to suddenly beat very hard if you have just raised out of a sitting position or if you make any sudden movement. Athletes, especially sprinters have this issue because their body has been tempered to deliver quick blood flow to the heart and veins when the perfom which is quite often. If you're an athlete or very active, your body may think you are about to go running or engage in a sport activity if you have sudden movements. Also, age: dizziness comes with age or quick movements in people approaching 30. Sorry, but it's true.

I've been suffering from the same symptoms. I only go to sleep when literaly I'm not able to stay standing because I'm too sleepy and when I go to bed and close my eyes i might start falling a sleep, but i get this felling like my heart is failing and I have several sudden wake ups while in the process of trying to fall asleep. Reading this forum somebody mentioned acid reflux and thinking back this issues started in me when i had Acute Gastritis which i would feel in my chest to the point that i went to a cardiologist first just for him to tell me i was fine. Then i went to any other doctor until i got to the Gastroenterologist finally who diagnosed me with the previously mentioned stomach problem. Ive been trying to fall asleep for the past 2 hours, but I cant. What i did... I just had a small cup of milk not too much to have a full stomach, but i guess enough to feel better. I did feel better when i drank the cold milk. Im not sure if this will help but ill sure post tomorrow what happened.

 

Also might be worth considering our lifestyles which can affect our sleeping habits. Or even if there is something troubleing you. To top everything i have anxiety problems... Those things might be worth considering.

I have to say - It definitely sounds like at least SOME of you have a thyroid issue.  The noise sensitivity, racing heart (particularly during sleep), dizziness  and brain fog type confusion - are all incredibly common issues with regard to thyroid.  

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and have learned so much about it in the 2.5 years since I was diagnosed when my vertigo and muscle spasms became so severe that I struggled to walk.   With thyroid issues (hypothyroid, Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid), Graves, Addisons, etc.) there can be a MYRIAD of symptoms that are consistently dismissed by doctors as anxiety.  And oftentimes your blood work (TSH, Free T4 and Free T3, etc.) can be close to "normal" since they haven't really done a ton of research on thyroid disorders in 30 years.   While some of you may be dealing with other issues, I definitely suggest that any of you who haven't had your TSH, Free T-4 and Free T-3 checked do so immediately.  If you are anywhere above a 3-4 on your TSH, I think you might do well to attempt some hormone replacement (either Synthroid or even Armour thyroid - though the Armour or Naturethroid is somewhat controversial and there are some doctors who believe it isn't good for the autoimmune thyroid disorder) to see if it can help.  Thyroid/endocrine/adrenals are all connected and incredibly sensitive and dependent on one another.   Some of you sound like you might have some kind of serious adrenal issue which would be worth looking into as well.  

Here's what I know.  Anxiety is a real thing.  And yes it can cause some very real symptoms.   But we know our bodies.  If you think it's more than anxiety - it probably is.   Keep doing research and seeking out doctors who specialize in what you are dealing with.   For instance - I had several doctors tell me I had anxiety in 2010 as my health deteriorated rapidly to the point where they finally started checking me for more serious things - including leukemia, a brain tumor, ovarian cancer - etc.   I though I was going nuts because they couldn't find anything and they kept telling me it was anxiety.  This kind of made sense but I was 34 years old and had never had any kind of anxiety or panic attack in my life.  All the sudden I was having muscle spasms, dizziness, vertigo, heart racing, insomnia, brain fog, noise sensitivity, etc. etc. etc. ??  So I would ask them why I was having muscle spasms - they'd say my potassium was too low (which was true - this can be related to adrenal/thyroid issues as well) - but they basically gave me a multivitamin.  Meantime, I was so sick I could hardly walk.  

 

The problem wasn't that I needed a vitamin, kids.  

 

Finally they checked my thyroid and my TSH was through the roof.  Then another doctor put me on the lowest dose of Synthroid possible and when my TSH bounced back some, she said I was on the right dose (.25 mcgs)  - I was still having severe symptoms including heart racing, insomnia, muscle spasms, dizziness.   I was like that for months  The next doctor I found was recommended by people on the site and he literally quadrupled my dose overnight because he said my thyroid was still in severe crisis.  Within 2 weeks I started to feel significantly better.  Eventually I saw an endocrinologist and a naturopathic doctor who specialized in thyroid issues.  The endo suggested I have my thyroid scanned to check for nodules which can mean thyroid cancer - I mean, how is it possible nobody even considered that before?  I was nodule-free thank goodness.  But the naturopath asked if I'd ever been tested for antibodies to determine if I was just hypothyroid - or if I had Hashimoto's or another autoimmune disorder.  I had not - she found that my antibodies were through the roof - and my doctor confirmed - nearly 1 year later - that I had had an autoimmune thyroid disorder for quite a while which means my own body keeps attacking my thyroid tissue - which causes severe fluctuations in my TSH readings and blood work - making it all the more important to watch my dosage closely.   Currently, I am on 112 mcgs of Synthroid and doing so much better I cannot tell you.   

 

When I first started having symptoms (heart racing, palpiatations, insomnia, muscle spasms, dizziness - eventually diarrhea, and lots of confusion and brain fog) - I had been an incredibly active person including running 1/2 marathons, etc.   Within a few months I could hardly walk.   After several months of several different doctors and intensive research, I finally found a doctor who thought I should be dosed more highly and within a matter of 1-2 weeks, I was almost back to normal.  Within a month or so I was able to run and exercise again without my body almost shutting down from the whacked adrenals, etc.  

 

Today, I see that doctor, as well as an endocrinologist.   They consistently monitor my levels.  I have found through trial and error that when I am more active (race training, etc.) that I need MORE Synthroid.   The thyroid is demanding more.  Etc. 

 

The moral of my rambling story is sort of four-fold:

 

1) Doctors are fallible and they are not always right.   Listen to your gut and your heart and KEEP LOOKING until you find someone who is really listening and willing to look at different possible explanations for what is happening with you.  KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS - keep doing research - and trust your gut.   This process SUCKS if you do not have health insurance and my heart goes out to you.  But DO NOT  give up.  You are not crazy.  If you think it's more than anxiety - it probably is.  There are all kinds of endocrine disorders and autoimmune disorders, adrenal disorders etc.   Don't give up. 

 

2) It could be anxiety as well - anxiety is real and causes real symptoms - so I am not dismissing that at all.  But if your gut tells you it is something more don't be shocked that it probably is because we live in a world with a SHOCKING amount of chemicals in it and it's not a wonder at all that there are so many bizarre health issues (some of which are environmental, though there are a bazillion different causes.)    From my personal experience, the Synthroid helped my thyroid issue and I got almost back to normal.  (Still some insomnia at times - sleep is very important for me now in a way it was not before.)  - BUT I have found that I do significantly better - SIGNIFICANTLY - when I am eating a completely organic, non-processed diet.   Yes I know this is a "blah blah blah - I've heard it before" type of suggestion but I have now read countless studies about the way that processed foods cause inflammation in the body - (inflammation is directly related to many autoimmune disorders.)   My husband and I started juicing  with this fancy Breville juicer (he's a health nut - I am NOT) - so suddenly my body was getting all these crazy nutrients like beets,kale,carrots,broccoli,ginger,apple juice - 1-2 times a day.  Within a week of doing this, I was sleeping better, having less brain fog etc.  I started researching why this might be and found all kinds of studies (I'm a research nerd - I use the University library and only read peer-reviewed studies since I was a psychology major.)  - but I found all kinds of studies done on autoimmune disorders and the benefits of getting our bodies more real nutrients.  It makes SO MUCH SENSE that we only get a fraction of the nutrients our bodies need in our daily diet.  We eat all kind of processed foods - even "organic" bread is still processed right?   So the more organic (local organic is even better) VEGGIES and (leafy greens, colorful veggies) FRUITS you can get in your diet the better.  Yes I'm serious.  Take a SERIOUS look at your diet.  If you are cramming any processed foods into your system you are adding to your problem.   Seriously.   If you are not getting a SERIOUS dose of vegetables in your life - you are keeping a vital form of medicine from your body, intentionally.  All I can say - is that when I take good care of my body (drink lots of water - LOTS - juice and eat  veggies and get TONS of veggies in my body daily) and be very protective of getting good sleep - my symptoms get even better than just taking the Synthroid alone.   It's up to you.  But if you don't know where the food you are putting in your mouth comes from - and if it has been processed in any way that removes the basic simplicity of the food - and if you aren't getting a serious dose of vegetables in your life - you are depriving your body of the most direct form of medication you can possibly give it.  

Eat. Better. 

 

Don't. Smoke. 

 

Get. Sleep.

 

Exercise!

 

If you aren't doing these things - you aren't trying - and you are going to be even sicker.  

 

 

 

Don't give up. 

 

I wish all of you - from 3 years ago to 3 months ago - the best in learning what your body needs. 

 

In the meantime, as you go on your journey, take CARE of yourself - and try to live your life and be happy.  Sometimes we find the answers right away - sometimes not for years - and yes, sometimes never. 

 

 

So it's important to take each day for what it is - fight for your health - your happiness - your personal peace.   But also don't forget to enjoy what you already HAVE - even if it isn't perfect.

Have the same symptoms right after lights out...we have a TV in the bedroom and if the plastic housing "pops" it feels like a gun went off and I've been hit with a cattle prod...I also have GAD and take Klonopin and Remeron at bedtime but they take about a half- hour to work...

I have the same problem too, I have no problem going to sleep, what drives me nuts is; staying asleep. Like right now I was watching a movie & my heart all the sudden felt like it was going to jump out of my chest. Also it feels like my whole right side is going numb. What do you think that could be? Should I be concerned? I'm also on Home Dialysis's.

HEllo Kabban, I am also going through the same thing, I only get like 2-3 hrs of sleep at night and sometimes no sleep. I am also hearing my heat all the time, n it sometimes scares me to go 2 sleep because of fearing that my heart will stop or something for hearing my heart. I also been loosing weight like you and eating less and mostly ensure drinks. Have you found any good remedy that has helped you? I will be going to counseling this week to see if that can help and I will keep you posted.
