It is true that it's possible that there's no sperm in precum, but there is bacteria and viruses. If you have an STD, you will probably give it to someone solely based on that. Remember--it's not the worst thing in the world to get pregnant. It's worse to get a dieases instead! Avoid body fluid contact either way.

What if the condom breaks during intercourse, plus its a spermicidal condom, and the girl starts her period the next day?

When she starts her period is irrelevant. The condom broke, so the spermicide doesn't work unless somehow all the semen was in it. Do you think you can get her take PLan B?

First of all, do not take the "word" of just one doctor who says that there is "always" some sperm in pre-ejaculate. Unless, that doctor has looked at thousands of samples of sperm themselves. The published scientific study is probably a more reliable source. And afterall, doctors get their information exactly from such published studies. Medical knowledge is not absolute and no one doctor is an expert on everything- even within their own field.
Don't take chances, but when trying to decide on what information is correct, look at the evidence and the thinking behind it. Just don't believe things because someone "important" said so. (And by the way, the pill doesn't have to be taken at the *exact* same time each day. You want to be close to the same time, but a few hours either way won't matter.

Or maybe she was uninformed? The title Doctor doesn't bestow all knowledge, to have sperm contained in the pre-cum which is produced separately from the sperm/seminal fluid it must have been present already in the urethra from a prior ejaculation where the male has not urinated (urine being acidic "kills" sperm, the pre-cum is there to neutralise this). Long story short, if you haven't ejaculated recently and have urinated before sex, no sperm in pre-cum.

Wow, this is so ridiculous. It's quite simple people. If you REALLY want to know the answer there's a way to find out in 2 seconds... LOOK AT A DIAGRAM. The Cowper's gland does NOT Produce Sperm. PERIOD. Thats a fact. Therefore if there was no previous ejaculation causing sperm to be in the urethra then there will be NO SPERM in the precum. Sperm is not some "Magic Formula" that some how breaks the laws of physics.
Have you ever taken a c**p out your mouth? No... Why? Because your butt is under your stomach... And unless you eat c**p and already have c**p in your throat, then you cant have it coming out of your mouth. So Stop talking c**p!
Now, all these people that say they got pregnant from precum are just liars. The same for people that say they got pregnant on the pill... It's so much easier to say "I got pregnant on the pill" than it is to tell your husband "Opps, I forgot to take the pill properly." ... It's so much easier to tell your wife "Ohh, you got pregnant from my magic precum." than it is to say "Opps, I ejaculated inside you."
And Doctors will tell you anything to help you. So yes a doctor will look you right in the face and say there is sperm inside precum. Because there CAN BE if you ejaculated earlier. And it helps scare people into using protection. This is a GOOD THING For Doctors to do and I'm happy they do it.
My point is this. If you are a girl and the guy says he's going to pull out. DONT BELIEVE HIM! Use a condom. He Will NOT Pull out. And then you'll be on some website lying to other people how you got pregnant through his incredibly strong super precum. And if you're a guy and your girl is having sex with you without a condom. Then she probably did that with her last boyfriend so you should Definitely wear a condom.
And thats your daily dose of TRUTH.
And no, I'm not a Doctor. I'm not in Pre-Med. I'm just a guy that knows how to look at a diagram.

May I add, that this is stupid! I am a girl, and I CAN feel when I've been ejaculated in. so a guy CANNOT lie about ejaculation, because you can feel is go in, and also run back out.

Im pretty sure that there is some sperm left in the "Pre-cum", but it doesnt sound like there is enough of it to fertilize an egg with. Also, if you urinate, and have sex the next day, the pre-cum should not have any sperm in it right? The urine is acidic, and will kill the sperm, or physically flush them out.

so basically even if you do ejaculate in a woman if she goes and urinates like she should after sex her urin should kill any sperm. i'm not the smartest person but i'm pretty sure as soon as the guy ejaculates inside a woman she's not immidiatly pregnate...Right?

I'm a little hesitant to say that I'm a medical student because that premed guy obviously has a vendetta against anyone who has actually mqde it into medical school, but I've got to somehow gain some credibility so there it is. I haven't even read the article, but if the sample size is only 5 people than it is a waste of time. Yes, the cowpers gland produces precum and yes sperm is stored in the vas deferens (behind the cowpers gland). BUT, what I was taught is that it releases sperm into the urethra periodically to ensure that the sperm that gets ejeculated is young and resilient. So in theory, yes precum can have sperm in it. Can that get you pregnant? Yes, but the odds are pretty slim. I wouldn't take the chance unless you are ready to get pregnant or get someone else pregnant. There are also phases of an orgasm. There is an emission phase where sperm is released, that an ejaculatory phase where it is propelled out. If you're trying to prolong things, it's possible to have a gap in between the two phases. So in this case, sperm would definatley be in the precum. Again, seems like a pretty big risk.
If you really want to believe that there isn't sperm in precum, then you'll find some way to justify not using a condom because they really suck. That's how I was before I became more informed on the subject and now I'm thanking my lucky stars that I didn't get anyone pregnant. As far a birh control goes, nothing is effective unless you use it properly, but still nothing is 100%. That's my take on things

Oh my goodness. It's so funny reading some of these posts! What is the problem here?
If people used birth control, such as the pill, correctly, there would be no pregnancy. People who claim they have become pregnant while using birth control are in denile or just keeping up appearances.
NO SPERM IN PRE CUM. Accept it and get over it.
If you really fear pregnancy, use something to prevent it! It's not difficult!

Cowper gland secretions contain no sperm. These findings are confirmed in a study which demonstrated smears of pre-ejaculatory Cowper’s gland secretion obtained during foreplay from at least two different occasions, and semen samples after masturbation. None of the pre-ejaculatory samples contained sperm, while all the patients had sperm in routine sperm analyses. It has been shown that pre-ejaculatory fluid secreted at the tip of the urethra from Cowper’s gland during sexual stimulation does not contain sperm (Zukerman et al., 2003).

I HAD to write in to this. My 3rd child is living proof that "pre-cum" can get you pregnant. My husband and I used condoms EVERY time and none of them broke. We would however "mess-around" (penetration) before we would put the condom on and 'get down to business.' He was never near orgasm when he was in me without the condom, so no chance of a little slip up. And no I didn't sleep with anyone else. We were VERY consistent in our condom use, so our 3rd was conceived during penetration without ejaculation. Therefore it would stand to reason that his pre-cum must've contained some sperm. (and he always urinated after intercourse at one point before we would have sex again...so that theory is refuted as well.)

- "I just consulted the doctor at my local clinic on this subject and she told me that there are ALWAYS a few spermatozoids in the pre-ejectile fluids. This clearly shows that the above-mentionned study was either improperly conducted or downright forged. PLEASE, do NOT take any chances and protect yourselves, because an abortion is something that can leave emotional scars for the rest of one's life." -

What makes your doctor the leading authority on whether or not there is sperm in precum? The whole point of this discussion centers around a legitimate scientific study that was conducted, which CONCLUDED that there is no sperm in precum. Where's the research article written by your doctor? You think that an article in a highly respected journal and valid sources are improperly conducted or downright forged because your doctor THINKS there are always a few spermatozoids in pre-ejectile fliuds...wow, you need to work on your logic.

I'm starting to wonder whether these "sperm in precum" people are just advocates of contraceptive companies.
