to question #1 WRONG!!! You can and typically will withdrawl just as bad from 2 mg as you would 20. I have been on Methadone for 7 years, as it is prescribed from my doctor for chronic back pain. I have a daughter that is 6 and when I got pregnant with her the MD I was seeing cut me off methadone completely and gave me 60 lorcet plus and said that was all he could do for me and for me to go see the OBgyn. I ended up staying off methadone the duration of the pregnancy and was only prescribed 10-15 lorcets a month til after birth and the withdrawl was still awful, the leg cramps alone felt like death not hardly being able to walk. But stupid me went back to the dr after she was born cuz the pain was hard to deal with and got put back on methadone. So now I have been on Methadone i get 180 10 mg pills a month and I think I may be pregnant again. So now back to the drawing boards.. And for question #2 is the only way that methadone or any other drug can be detected after 7 months is if they draw from baby's cord blood. It is typically a 3 day wait to rid pills of any kind from the body.

I just had my daughter 2 weeks ago and I am on a methadone clinic. I got on the clinic n clean from heroin in January and then got pregnant in June so I was clean when I got pregnant, not got clean BECAUSE I got pregnant. I was on 55mg in June and stayed at 55mg for the first 6 months but then had to increase to 60 due to my dose not holding me which could of been dangerous to the baby. I stayed on 60mgs for the rest of the pregnancy because I wanted to keep my dose as low as possible. My daughter was born full term and healthy. The only withdrawels she experienced was muscle tension in her arms and legs which we worked with the occupational therapist and did the excercise's with the baby every day. In less than 2 weeks the muscle tension is gone! She's always and continues to eat 3+ ounces each feeding, sleeps soundly between bottles, only cries when she needs something and it's never for long and if I didn't tell u, ud never guess that she was born to a mother on methadone. She's healthy and absolutely perfect. My point is that methadone can be a great thing if u do the program correctly. I'm still only at 60mgs and I don't plan on increasing that anytime soon. Iv been on for over a year and my life couldn't be better. The clinic saved my life and allowed me to achieve everything I have. When I hear people judge pregnant woman on methadone, I just want to ask them if they would rather have the mother shooting heroin her entire pregnancy ? Because I can assure u that a baby born to that is wrong and much much worse.

if theres a doctor saying that methadone is safe than what could u possibly have to say thats bad??? if the doctor says its ok then its ok, i too am 3months pregnant &on methadone& my doctor too has told me that if i go cold turkey i will kill my baby, im on 20ml of methadone &am cutting down 1ml per day till i come off it, ur supposed to be a sister& an auntie& to hear u slagging her off like that makes me wonder if u really r a sister, yes im coming off the methadone SLOWLY cos I CAN! theres people out there that just arent ready to come off the methadone& i do understand what ur saying but i think u should learn to be more sensitive, not just to everyone out there on it but espescially to ur sister as this must be the hardest decision she's ever had to make& she must be going through hell, u as a sister should support her desicion even if u think it's wrong!! the reality is that she has spoke to a doctor &he has confirmed that it's ok& safe... I know it must be hard for u to know that ur niece/nephew is withdrawing the first couple of weeks of its life but think about it this way, its best to take methadone than other drugs that could really harm her baby so just be thankful that shes on methadone ¬ heroin.

and nieve ur giving the wring advice if u don't like whatnu hear and don't have the knowledge or went to school or have been through this yourself then don't comment ur sister wasn't taking a steady dose of methadone with her first kid and was obviously addicted and wasn't even getting help till after the first trimester so there is where the problem is if u got pregnant and was already on a stable dose ur baby will be fine and actually its more common for woman on high doses for there babies to show no symptoms of with drawl the. Someone on lower doses so telling someone to taper off while there pregnant will hurt there baby and u putting this info Into woman's heads looking for advice is wrong don't comment ever again please cuz if someone takes ur advice there baby will be harmed I bet ur sister being on a stable dose now for so long her baby will be fine the second time but her first one u have to look at the difference not just cuz she was using its not the same at all as when ur on a stable dose ....during pregnancy ur heart is beating much faster and pumping a lot more blood so many woman even go up on there dose while regnant to keep from with drawl cuz if u feel Amy type of with drawl it affects your baby more then it does u so never ever ever go down not even by 1 mg while being pregnant but its definitely safe to go up .....all worried mothers do not listen to this person who obviously does not know much on this subject go to Google and type in moms on methadone n there r some good sites there

My dads girlfriend is on methodone shes been an alcoholic i think for 15 maybe even 20 years my dad has been with her for about 11 or 12 years. I dunno what amount of it she takes but all i think is she shouldnt of got pregnant in the first place, i feel heart broken thinking about my baby brother being brought into the world in what should be a beautiful natural way but instead has to stay in hosiptal to be weined off methodone. what kind of start in life is that for what people call gods gift to humans?

I think its good people can use methodone to wein themselves off what ever they r addicted to and to be fair i know nothing much about it but i think it is wrong to get pregnant on it, people taking this should be concentrating on themselves and sorting their own lives out before even considering bringing another life into the world, its no way to start a life. People turn there noses up at people who take methodone because they dont actually think about the re-precautions it will have on the baby.

I think its shocking and people on methodone should be ashamed of themselves and to be fair if people say they would come off methodone tomorrow they would but actually cant because they are addicted how do u think a baby is going to feel getting wiened off it at that age aswell. They dont have no decision to stay on it or to get off it, the people on methodone should put themselves through the suffering that they are going to put their newborn baby through maybe then they can say they truely care.

People have babys on methodone because they know they can, at the end of the day the doctors and nurses midwives who ever will make their baby better for them so to be honest why not have them, might aswell have them on the heroine or alcohol addiction cz u know the good old nhs will sort ur baby out for you!

Bloody Disgusting!

Thats your question?
You should of sorted ur own life out before having a baby, yea the baby might grow up to be healthy but thats the chance a woman on methodone wants to take.
And you also said that the only withdrawls your baby had was muscle tension in her arms and legs? Could you manage to keep a straight face when you wrote this? The ONLY WITHDRAWLS u make me laugh ur baby shouldnt have any , im glad ur baby girl is fine and feeding like a normal baby does but the simple fact is u put ur baby through something that you urself wouldnt or couldnt do, and that was to be completely methodone free. Its the poor babies i feel sorry for.

Well if they said the baby died cos there was meth in her system obviously means she wasn't prescribed it and took it randomly which is why your niece died so think its only the mother of the child you should be blaming for taking it illegally instead of everyone PRESCRIBED methadone. I was on 25ml when I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant, I am now 28 weeks and down to 15ml, I want to go down as much as possible but the doctor thinks this is enough but as long as I'm feeling fine I'm gona push to get it reduced cos if I'm feeling fine I know my baby is. People still abusing drugs while pregnant make me sick but meth is prescription so people bad mouthing us don't know our full situation or story so pipe down. My kids mean the world to me so I'm trying to right my wrongs !!

Unfortunately you don't have all your facts, you sound ignorant. If your sisters baby was having all those problems I'm sorry but she had to have been on other substances not just methedone. I'm a nurse and her baby should not have experienced all those problems 2weeks after going home. Sounds like your sister was lying to you and the drs. Methedone is dangerous to withdraw from while pregnant. It is safer to stay on until after tge pregnancy. Unfortunately instead of withdrawing most of the moms to be have to increase there dose of methedone while pregnant Bc tge extra blood volume, ect.... The pregnancy brings. If mom goes into withdrawals while preg, guess what.... So does baby and unfortunately this can cause way more harm than good. I'm glad you personally never had to deal with addiction yourself. If you had you would understand its not as cut and dry as just getting off because you are pregnant. I wouldn't want to see your sister or anyone else go back to taking pain meds or a drug addiction just because they got preg and people like you feel they should rush off before they are ready to both emotionally or physically. One of my patients has real medical conditions that require pain manegment and methedone is tge safest form for pregnant women. To all the moms to be out there on methedone don't let anyone like this that doesn't understand the medication bully you, or guilt you off much needed medication until you are ready.

DSS won't take your baby because you are prescribed the medication. Although I would be worried about the baby having withdrawals from taking such a high dose. I am on 21 mgs a day and my counselor just told me today that the baby gets 2% of whatever the mother takes. I have been in MMT for almost 3 years and I was tapering out when I found out I as pregnant. I NEVER wanted to be on methadone while pregnant because when I was pregnant with my now 3 yr old I knew her being born healthy and free from withdrawals that she was my last miracle but then again I was eating 12-15, 10 mg Percocets a day. I hope everything turned out ok for you! I would like to know how the baby is. My main concern for mine is the withdrawals because I don't wan't my baby to have to get morphine. I increased my water intake, I eat lots of fruit and veggies and I make sure I take my prenatal vitamins. Let me know how you guys are!

I would like to know how your baby turned out. I have heard of very few women cutting down on methadone while pregnant but never ever that much and that quick. I am currently in MMT and have been for almost 3 yrs and I know that 1 mg a day is rough even on someone who is not pregnant. I was tapering out of the clinic at 1 mg every other week and that was ok and then I started tapering out at 1 mg a week and that was way to much. Then I found out I was pregnant and they won't let me taper anymore. I don't agree with the not allowing women taper out at very slow doses, like 1 a month but allowing them to go up. When I was pregnant with my now 3 yr old I was taking 12-15, 10 mg Percocets a day and she was born healthy without withdrawals but I never wanted to be on methadone while pregnant. I am only at 21 mgs a day and I refuse to go up. My counselor just told me this morning that the baby only get's 2% of whatever the mother takes. I have started drinking a lot of water and I eat a lot of fruits and veggies. I hope everything turned out great for you and the baby! I sure wish you the best as is what I am hoping for myself because this is no easy task.

I think it is wrong of you to judge people whom get pregnant while on methadone being you said you know nothing about it. I don't know what your step mom was on but they do not give anyone methadone for alcoholism. Not everyone plans to get pregnant while on it. I was addicted to prescription pills for 7 years and I have been in MMT for almost 3 years. I am only at 21 mgs a day and was tapering out when I found out I was pregnant. I did not want to get pregnant while on methadone and that is why I was tapering out but at the same time it took me 15 years to get pregnant with my now 3 yr old daughter. Having this baby is a blessing! Even though I did not want to be on methadone while I was pregnant abortion will NEVER be an option for me. Not everyone is on methadone because they can and although some don't agree with women taking it while pregnant it is way better than being on heroin or anything else. At the same time I do not agree with women being at very high doses while pregnant. I think before you make assumptions about everyone you should get the facts. Yes I know that some people abuse methadone but not everyone does. What I find shocking is that you can pass judgment when you don't know what we as former addicts go through. I also think that in stead of judging or ridiculing people you should try to help because that would make more of a difference. I have done everything right in my recovery process and for you to sit there and say cruel things on something you know nothing about is wrong. I don't know where you're from but where I am they only give people methadone for opiate addiction, which is prescription pills or heroin so whoever gave her methadone for alcoholism isn't educated in MMT and needs their license taken or you have been misinformed. I would never want my baby to suffer and then again if you knew anything about it you wouldn't speak of making anyone suffer because you don't know how methadone withdrawal affects people. You don't know peoples stories so before you go and judge them you should make sure you are 100%. No one on this earth is without flaws so please think before you speak. Be blessed

The baby only gets 2% of what you take. I wish you the best with everything because I know it's not easy. What dose are you at if you don't mind me asking. I was tapering out when I found out I was pregnant. I am at 21 mgs a day but at the same time I never wanted to be on methadone while pregnant but things happen and abortion is NOT an option for me. More power to you an I hope the baby is fine. I know it's 2 different things but with my now 3 yr old daughter I was eating 12-15, 10 mg Percocets a day and she was born healthy with no withdrawals. I will not go up on my dose at all and after I have the baby I will continue my taper. I wish you the best! Be blessed!!
