Many people on methadone are on a higher dose than needed so it does make them high.

They get put on morphine, not methadone and most babies will be off morphine in under 2 months, not 6. They don't like to keep it going for too long and cut the dosage down every 3-7 days.

I think I misunderstood your reply. A baby will not be put on methadone. It will be given morphine and it will remain in hospital for about a week to be monitored for withdrawals symptoms and the severity. If the baby is withdrawing it will be given morphine. Then the parents will be shown how to administer the morphine to there babies before they take it home. Then the baby will remain on morphine for 2-8 weeks depending on the severity of the withdrawals but they cut down a babies dose as quickly as possible.

Yes the second trimester is the safe period to cut your dose down to the lowest you can. 1st and 3rd trimester is unsafe and not recommended.

Babies are put on Morphine, not methadone. A baby is never given methadone.

I am 31 weeks pregnant and on 42 mg of methadone daily. I am really scared of hoe my baby will react to the withdrawl's once he is born. I talked to a close friend of my family and she put it in a way where i don't cry about taking methadone and being pregnant. she told me brandy what if you were not healthy and stable and on methadone when you got pregnant? i replied that i would have gotten clean once i found out i was pregnant but probally would have relapsed once or more during the duration of my pregnancy. She then replied well there you go sweetie at least you are doing the right thing and yes the baby may withdrawl once born but if it would effect the baby as much as you are worried about they wouldn't allow pregnant women to take it to begin with. Not to mention in the long run you being on methadone and STABLE gives your baby a better chance of his mother being clean and actually being able to raise him. They can not take your baby due to your baby testing positive as long as you are prescribed it and they will call in DHR,DSS,CPS or whatever its called where you are but as long as DHR is able to obtain those records from your clinic and see that you haven't failed any drug tests while pregnant you should be fine. hope my

amazing input. thanks for your wisdom. I am 31 weeks pregnant and people have got me scared to death that my baby will have to be in NICU for 90 days . My OBGYN talked to the neonatologists that would be handling my son after birth and he said that since i am on such a low dose of 42mg that IF the baby withdrawals at all it shouldn't be too bad. Of course he said that isn't written in stone because no one can predict how the baby will actually handle the withdrawals until the baby actually arrives but i feel much better wish more people would post their experiences both positive and negative so i can stop freaking out so bad.

that's right girl and further more i tried to come off of methadone and my clinic methadone doctor refused saying he wouldn't be held responsible if i was to lose my child so if you actually knew your facts and haven't given birth your only 9 months pregnant there's no telling the unseen damaged you've caused so don't be downing other mothers that are concerned for their children and who are you to say who doesn't deserve custody of their child/children YOU ARE OUT OF LINE!!!!!! AND FURTHER MORE SINCE YOU ARE SUCH THE PERFECT MOTHER WHY ARE YOU ON THIS BLOG TO BEGIN WITH???????????????????????????

I have been on methadone for 3 years and am on a high dose. Im pregnant with my 2nd child while on methadone. I was at 145mg when i had my daughter and she was able to come right home(after 4 days, which are mandatory for cps to check your home and to make sure the baby doesnt get sick). Im pregnant 37 weeks pregnant with a boy and i hope everything goes as well as with my first.

Im 30 and I too am on methadone and 3 months prego. Ive had a couple prior miscarriages before this. Didnt think i could even have kids. Ive been through some pretty messed up stuff the past few yrs. Lost my mother and boyfriend of 10 yrs, a year apart. Id been so depressed and didnt want to get back on pills so i stayed on my mdone. I recently have been planning on stopping. Im now terrified to have a baby on this sh*t. I hate myself for it. Obviously id preferred to have planned a pregnancy and stop my meds first but unfourtunatly that wasnt the case. I as well have talked to my doc about stopping and was told not to. Im also on a higher dose. If i was on 50 or lower id think its less of a risk and would probably taper myself off but everything ive read is saying definetly don't stop. A lot of time they want to increase your dose while prego bc u can go into w/d from sharing it with the baby but i refuse to go up. Ive known soo many women who have had mdone babies and aside from having to wein them off they were perfectly healthy and havent had any issues. Not saying theres no risk bc there always is. To the people talking sh*t and trying to put us down are judgemental af. You have no clue what some of us have been through and already feel about ourselves. Some people dgaf and do all kinds of drugs not even thinking of their babies or planning to be a mother to them. But then theres some of us who are decent human beings trying to do the riight thing and listen to our doctors etc and will be amazing mothers. You may not understand or agree with our life decisions but some of us are doing our best the best we know how and would love to not be in this situation. I may not agree with certain things people do but id never go on a forum where women are scared and asking advice or venting and then tell them how horrible and screwed up they are. Smh

No!!!! You don’t know what you are talking about. Please people don’t listen to medical advice on here. These are opinions and cannot be taken as medical advice from a doctor. YOU CANT ween off methadone while pregnant. In fact do not decrease your dose at all. It is dangerous for baby and could cause distress and or other issues like misscarriage. You need to be at a stable dose that is at same amount every day ... it’s not good to be going up and down etc.
I’m not a doctor either ... so ask a doctor, but this is what my clinic has told me.
But this has to be said as a warning to people on here Incase they are considering advice from people on here that I’ve read.
Good luck, everything will likely be fine. The odds are in your favor. Xxx
