You maam should educate yourself on the subject a bit before giving wrong advice when you clearly have no actual knowledge. First and for most not all situations are what your sister went thru and it can be detrimental to the fetus to get off methadone while your pregnant. You can kill the baby even past the point of miscarriage how would you like to have to go through childbirth just to deliver a stillborn Baby or earlier on you can miscarry. While it's not the ideal situation Women do get pregnant while they're on methadone.I have a friend whose two daughters were healthy happy babies now 7&10yrs old btw with no problems.neither of which had to stay in the hospital more than five days (because methodone has been given to pregnant women for over 30 years) it is a medication that has been researched and studied more than most. no maam it does not cause birth defects and children grow up to leave perfectly happy healthy lives. Sometimes circumstances happen If you get pregnant while on methadone the last possible thing you should be doing is trying to get off of it if you plan on having a baby and carrying that baby to term. Women have babies every day And do everything right they are supposed to do and the babies still have complications and high risk pregnancy. People come here asking questions and rather then not putting in your two cents when you have no real knowledge on the subject other then what your sister went thru( one person) The absolute very last thing you should be doing is give them advice telling them that's all it worst thing they can do for the baby growing inside of them what if someone decided that they should listen to you because your sister went through it and because of your advice they decided to stop taking it and lost their baby I would think before you speak next time and I hope and pray that because of your sisters horror story no other person reads this and gets scared and ends up killing their baby

It's Beyond ridiculous that people like her have to get on here to comment with no real knowledge whatsoever on the subject or she would know it didn't cause birth defects and is one of the most studied drugs there is being used for over 30 years and you're absolutely right how the hell does she know her sister wasn't steadily using all the time especially if CPS came out more than once because they wouldn't come back out periodically unless there were some issues there. I love hearing stories like yours especially You having gone through it yourself and actually know what you're talking about and you don't say because of one sister one damn person u are suddenly an expert on methadone n pregnancy having no previous knowledge or clearly current knowledge either. I just love ignorant people who act so righteous don't you

She thinks she's an expert because her sister had a baby on methadone so really her opinion is so completely irrelevant. Who knows what else her sister could have been taking aside the methadone and every baby every mother every case is different. Good for you getting help you deserve to be a mother just like any other woman and I hope all is well with you and your little one:)

Do u not realize that if u are taking any drug or even smoking cigarettes any Dr is going to tell u to not quit suddenly because that will effect the baby more than staying on it and lower your dosage. Do your research please and i also know this because im an MA and personally its a bad thing for the baby when they are born and helpless but still.

Are you kidding me? You are so rude! I am on 30mg of methadone and half way thru my pregnancy. This wasnt my ideal time to have a child but i wouldnt change it for the world. Its not healthy to detox off your methadone while pregnant. You can miscarry etc.. do more researcg before you judge! For other people to get involved and the baby to be that bad then your sister is still on heavy drugs and not just methadone. Stop being rude!!

You cannot ween off methadone or go down while pregnant, to my dismay. I have had to go up infact 15mgs so far and am 20 weeks along. The baby is fine and will be fine. Do t worry but the biggest worry is withdrawal symptoms is worst for the baby then the methadone. Dont stop taking it . ween off after birth slowly. Good luck

Hi there idk when you wrote this but on December 8th 2016 after going to the methadome clinic for 10 yrs , not even knowing i could have another child after a very bad accident that nearly killed me ! This happebed after my daughter was born and and was only 4 mths old ! Ao my body had no time to heal literally!! Well my pregnancy was very hard , idk if it was due to the methadone or the damages done to my body that is long term pain , mainly dealing with the fact that something could happen to this innocent child that god blessed myself and fiance with!! Im very thankful to say that our son was born very healthy weighing a even 8lbs and he is 21 inches and a quarter long.. But i worried my whole pregnancy. About what would happen to him after i could not bare to think of him in pain. Of anyking ! He is healthy thankyou our lord above ! But does anyone know that once they released us after 48 hrs. If they can start having detox systems after 8-9 days

Dss won't take your baby because you are on the methadone program but they will if they find any other drugs in your blood. But the Methadone alone, no they will not. If you have a home to take the baby to once its born and you are stable on Methadone and not taking any other drug then you will be fine. But they do like to find other issues so you must be careful that there is nothing else they can bring up because just the Methadone alone is not enough to have your child removed from you. I know because I've gone though this before. Do whatever they tell you to do. Once your baby is born they may ask you to do regular drug screens until they trust you. Methadone is not illegal and people say that DSS and judges look down on it but these days they do not. They are actually in favour of drug treatment. As for your baby withdrawing after birth. More than likely it will because I was on half the dose you're on and my baby had withdrawals but once the hospital showed me how to administer morphine to my baby she was allowed to come home with me after 5 days. You are on a very high dose. A lot of women have said that if you're on 30mg or under there's a chance your baby won't have withdrawals but above 30mg it will. But your dose is very high so it will have withdrawals and have to be weaned off morphine for about a month or so. Everyone knows that there baby will withdraw if they are on a high dose of methadone so it's too late to worry about it now. If you were very concerned then you should have used protection and waited to get pregnant once you got off the Methadone. Now you'll just have accept it and deal with it. But don't give DSS any other reason to remove you child because given the chance, they will.

Hi Just wondering how it went with your pregnancy? Was baby hanging out? And if so how long did baby have to stay on morphine for the withdrawals? How is baby progressing now? Also I was wondering if you were given the information that it is safe in the second trimester to cut down or reduce and get off methadone? Doctors have said 1st and 3rd trimesters are unsafe but second is safe if you want to get off methadone during that 3 month phase.
