Hi I had my TL done in Sept 04 after the birth of my fourth child, the first year was ok my periods were heavier and a bit more painful but i could cope with them. Now though for the last 2yrs I am having this horrific pain in my lower right side, I had a cyst removed from the right ovary 5 months ago and was told that that would be the end of all the pain.... Guess what, I'm sitting here now trying to decide wether to go to the hospital or not i am eating pain killers and have just had enough. There is no way i'm getting my TL reversed because i'm 36 and do not want anymore babies. I also had a procedure done to check my bowel to see if that was the cause but it's fine i'm due to go in and get a cat scan to check my kidneys etc but i just feel that its the sterilisation thats causing the problem and no-one is listening. My poor husband is really suffering as my sex drive is non existant anyone had the same symptoms as me??? HELP. >:(

I am sitting here so glad to be reading this. Thank God I am not alone! I had my tubal done in August 2007. By the time I should have been ovulating, I was back in the Dr.'s office in excrutiating pain, (coincidentally on the left side) he diagnosed me without doing any testing. He said I had a cyst that burst. He handed me a prescription for pain meds and walked out the door. I was so mad! I felt it was the equivalent of patting me on the head and handing me a lollipop. I was not med-seeking, I was IN PAIN!!! I switched Dr.'s. The next Dr. I had did tests, but could not find anything. Told me it was hormonal changes. (At least she didn't offer me pain meds to mask the pain!!) The pain continues every month. Also, something else besides the left side pain and heavy bleeding, about 2 weeks before my period starts, I feel like I am going crazy. I am irritable, moody, and most of all angry!!! My sex drive is also nonexistent. My poor family... I don't like how I am feeling and don't know what to do or where to go! If anyone can help, please let me know.

I am 31 yrs old. I had my tubal ligation RIGHT after teh c-section of my second son in July of 2001. Since then I haven't been the same.

Pain to the point of passing out and it seems to come 2 days AFTER my period stops. But the pain is ONLY every other month & ONLY on my lower right side.

I have massive headaches, massive fatigue, and depression. I was on Zoloft for a while until it just stopped working. Now I am on Lexapro, which seems to be helping. I had to do something about the moods first because I was lashing out at my kids & I didn't want to end up on the 5 o'clock news.

The dr that performed the TL kept putting me off saying it was IBS. I KNOW the difference between a poop cramp & a uterine cramp. I tried to explain that it ONLY happens every other month & ONLY on the right side during ovulation. HE blew me off.

So I found another dr. SHE examined me & explained that everything is healthy BUT because of having 2 c-sections, PID (pelvic inflamitory disease) & the tubal that i had SO MUCH scar tissue that my uterus has adhered to my lower abdomen on the right side. Her suggestion was a low dose birth control pill. IT WORKED!!!! My pain & fatigue were gone.

But because the pill is so expensive even with insurance, i had to stop taking it & now I am back to square one.

She did tell me that TL's very often end up in hystorectomys because of the issues they cause. Or you end up in early menopause. My 39 yr old aunt had a tubal 15 yrs ago & is now in full menopause.

It's something that I wish I would have never done.

I am only 22 years old and had a tubal a year ago because of some health issues. A month after my surgery I started to notice this horrible cramping pain in my left side. Thinking it was cysts (because Ive had many before) I thought nothing of it. Figured it would go away in a day or two. I finally went away but came back very quickly. Then became more frequent and more and more painful. I went to the doctors many different times and they kept telling me there was nothing wrong when I knew there was something seriously wrong! Just this last week I finally had enough of not getting answers and went into my OB once again and told him I cant do it anymore. The pain was just too much and something needed to be done. Ive had ultrasounds, blood work, urine tests, pap smears, STD testing, the whole 9 yards and they couldnt come up with anything. He finally said enough is enough and I go in next week to find out when I have surgery to have him take a look. He said he thinks its scar tissue. I just want the clamps off my tubes so I dont have to go through this pain any longer! These pains only come on the left side and last all day long everyday! I might get an hour or two out of the day that im pain free IF IM LUCKY! I dont know what they'll find but hopefully whatever it is, they take care of it because Im sick and tired of being in pain all the time. Its affecting my daily life as well as my sex life! So whoever else is going through this...I FEEL YOUR PAIN! its horrible and no woman should have to go through this! wish me luck everyone!

I am so glad I am not the only woman to experience this kind of pain and discomfort. I can't stand the mood swings, the pain, or the periods. Is there anyone out there willing to help us????

looking for input - I had a TL after giving birth in Nov 07. 1st cycle was light; then nothing; started again at Easter and haven't really stopped for more than a day since then. Very heavy and clotting is large. I've had ultrasounds done and the endometrial lining is about 2 1/2 times normal.
My dr is now recommending ablation.
i'm undecided...
thanks!

I had my youngest child and my last in october if 2005, i also had a tubal ligation done. but after reading all the other symptoms that others have. i don't feel like it's just me anymore. about a week before my cycle i am irriatble, moody, very emotional, grumpy, and severe pain in my left side, i bleed soo bad that i have to use a super overnight pad and a super plus tampon and i have to change every 1 or less. my fiance thought it was just me like i did until my neighbor had simular symptoms like i am having and she said it was to be from her tubal ligation also. that made me look into more about it. before my tubal i never had any cramps or pms now i hurt so bad it puts me in the bed all day and for the first two days of my cycle i have to stay home just in case of any accidents cause i bleed so heavy. i even hemmoraged when my daughter was 5 days old. and then i bleed for about a month after they sent me home from the hospital. hopefully somewhere somebody will investigate these symptoms and find a solution for women like us.

I'm having the same problem, pain left side of pelvis. Movement like a baby kicking (not pregnant). PMS is crucial. Pain is getting worse everyday. I hate going to see these docters who think they know everything. If anyone finds a solution please let me know. My email is ***Edited by moderator*** Emails not allowed per terms of use***. Good luck everyone... it sucks being a woman sometimes!

i just had a tubal lidation 5/28/08 i hope i dont have to experience the pain and pms . i never had pms. what i was wonder was how long for mt recovery. they tried to go through my belly button but there was to much scar tissue so they had to make a 4 inch inscision under my c- section scar. the pain was horriable. but fine now after 2 weeks. at the same time i had a precedure done where they zap your uterus so you really get a period at all.my friend had it done and she loves it. maybe spots once in a while. that is what i am looking forward to. but i wanted you to know that i do get cramps on my left side. but thought it was because i went back to work to early. trying to think positive XD XD XD

Well I got a tubal lidation at the same time I delivered my last child Sept 2007. I had to have a c section because of problems I had durning the last delivery caused me to have a unplanned c-section and couldnt find anyone to do a V-back. So I deceided no more kids I cant put my body throught this anymore. Ladies you know what I mean a c-section is rough exspecially dealing with the pain afterward. Anyhow well about that last child that was suppose to be the case..... She is now 9 months and guess what I am 3 months pregnant. Thats right 6 months afterward I got prengant isnt that funny. I dont think so either. Anyone have any advice on what to do next would be great. 4 kids and 1 on the way with no job.

I am glad to find I'm not the only one having trouble after a TL. I had mine in Feb. 2006. I have pain on my right side and left...but the pain on the right is worse. It's down low right where your ovaries are...no cramping per se, but it's like someone sticks a knife in, twists it, then the pain quits for a while. It seems to be off and on all month long....close to my period it's worse and after sex sometimes are the main time for the pain. I have my appt. end of July, and do hope my dr. pays attention and does listen. I do know the depression and moodiness before my period is something that started after the TL. I never heard of any problems and when asking my dr., he said there are no side effects.....so I dread my dr. appt. Hopefully they will start realizing it's not in our heads, the pain is real.

wow I thought i was the only one,
I had mine tied in 2004 after my third son but having them tied was not a choice of mine but i have something called protien s defieciancy which makes me severly prone to blood clots there for i was told i had no choice but to have them tied being as because of this condition i could not take birth control and i had had 3 c sections over about 5 years and for me to get pregnant so soon would be well not tooo good......so i said do what you have to do.....now before this was done i lived the dream life i only ever got my period for 2 to 3 days with no pain or moodiness and i was so happy. now in the last 4 years ever month has gotten worse. i now suffer from severe pain i too on the left side around the time i ovulate and then around a week before i get it i suffer from headaches, depression, memory loss, fever, i also get signs of pregnancy which scares me nearly every month with severe breast tenderness, vomiting, and eating i get soooo hungry then about 2 days before i start bleeding and for 2 days after i start i have the worst pain at first i thought maybe i was misscarrying every month. but blood tests prooved this not the case.
