I'm 14 and very self conscious about it its about inch outwards and people call it my uniboob. laughed at first, cried later...
My son is 15 and just got a Brace that he will have to wear for the next year or so. We were referred to Shriners Children Hospital. If you can't get a referral call them. Don't give up - there is help out there. It took me a while to find someone to help. Earlier in this post there is a company who leaves a message they can help too. I think its pectus joe They specialize in this treatment. I think the brace is a better option than surgery .
My son is 14 and pretty skinny so it seems that it is more noticeable due to being skinny.
My son had his left side of his chest stick out at age 11 and its still that way. ive brought him for ex-rays. The doctors cant find anything wrong. I will tell him about the pushups. :) Thanks. He is now 13.
Young man, you are not alone in this. I was born with my breastbone/sternum protruding as well, yet I was born in 1954 (so I'm 60 now). Even though I'm older, I still have it, and I am also a lot heavier than I was when I was younger. I hated going bare-chested as my sternum would stick out, so I always wore a t-shirt to kind of hide it. I was also born with heart murmur, and it went away for awhile, until I got older and I have it back again. I have done exercises, bench presses to build up my pec's, to make it less noticable, but it is still there. I also grew up with the flexibility in my joints, and was a gymnast in Jr. High in the late 1960's. I always refused to take off my shirt because I would always be laughed at. Unfortunately, my flexibility is no where it once was as most of my joints are arthritic today. I don't want to scare you, as this is not my intention. I just know how it feels as well.
When I was a kid, I was horribly skinny. I looked like I was anorexic, I was so skinny. At 14 I was only 4'-6" and weighed 62 lbs. When I graduated high school in 1972, I was 6 foot and weighed 105. I know the feeling, very well.
im 15 and have this problem its screwed
Started him on Vitamin D today - will get other vitamins you suggested during this week.
Thanks again for your post.
Best regards,
J

I am 35. I was tall and skinny I'm 6'1" now but a little more weight 180. I have a fast metabolism as well. I had this damn "bird cage" as well. I hated going swimming but had to for school in 6th grade. when I really started noticing it. So did others. I would get teased about it it didn't bother me much until I really got in my head about it. It made it a little difficult in my head when I was messing around with girls always nervous to take off my shirt. Bit in reality almost all the girls I was with never noticed or gave a damn..whenever I was skinnier in life I noticed it more. Have a healthy diet and try to keep a little weight on. Lifting didn't seem to do a whole lot. But might help for others. Pretty crazy but cool to see others with this. I actually had a partially collapsed lung in my 20s might be something associated. From some strenuous activity. But other than that haven't seemed to be anything wrong. I still notice it a little bit but no where near as bad as when I was younger. But who gives a sh*t what others think. You learn that as you get older. Youngsters are harsh. Sometimes bringing it up before people can say anything helps from stupid comments...could be a hell of a lot worse. Be thankful this is the biggest of problems for you.
