My mom is having some issues with her pulse.Says jus sitting it will be going at 138.I dont think that is normal at all..but dont know what to tell her , she is running a fever of 101.1 and said she wuz shaking all nite long an jus couldnt stop.Back of her neck is hurting also she says so maybe that could be something going on ? If anyone has ever experienced anything like this or know what it could be .Could you letme know ?
Hi Jason,
138 is fast for her pulse, more so when resting. She is likely experiencing "the chills" and that's why she's shaking. Her body is trying to warm up.
How long has she been sick? Is she eating/drinking OK? How's her breathing?

Her temp is down ,her pulse is 102 now .she says she feels a lil better tho.but she jus cant place what it could have been? She said she is scared to sleep tonite cuz she wuz layin in bed when her pulse wuz doing all that ,she called me and told me she could feel it while she wuz talking to me on the phone.i it would have been a virus she would still be sick. You got any ideas?
102 is better, still a little high but if she's not feeling well that might account for some of it. Yes, a virus could make her sick.
Anxiety, about not feeling well, can also make her pulse rate rise.
How long has she been sick? Has she taken anything to help reduce her fever? Is she drinking fluids?

She felt palpitations. Pain can cause these, as can certain medications, too much caffeine, lots of things. Palpitations are common and many people experience them at some point in their lives.
Did she feel dizzy or light headed or have any shortness of breath? These would be strong clues as to suggest a cardiac event. Women do tend to experience different symptoms than men, including pain across the back and extending into the neck.
The symptoms aren't specific enough to say "heart attack." Muscle pains are common with the flu and to a lesser extent a cold. The shaking suggests "the chills."
I'm not trying to downplay your concerns, but it sounds like a cold or flu. The only way to know for sure at this point would be an EKG.
Obviously, if she's having trouble breathing, is lightheaded, or is in extreme pain she needs to get emergency medical help.
Wish I had more for you.

Well thanx< your info did help alot really :-) i think made her feel better that at least i wuz trying to work it out....I told her she needed to go to the dr no matter what
yeah your mom was experiencing rigors, she probably had some sort of infection, possibly bacterial, possibly bactermia, which is causing the high pulse. If she is better now all the better, but if not , go straight to ER.
