I agree with annadoes. There are health food stores in every corner where I live - so I’m very fortunate. But traders Joe has good yogurt. I buy the plain stuff - the honey stuff is too sweet for me. You should mix other elements with your yogurt to get other essential vitamins to help boost your body. annadoes has some great advice here. If you have extra money - you should just buy all natural juices and blend it together one large glass instead of taking vitamin supplements. That should be enough for your daily vitamin intake. I mix cranberry juice, orange juice, green tea, mint tea (helps with my gas) apple juice, etc... I have been slowly easing my body off vitamin supplements and getting them naturally. But still take supplements when I don’t have time. I was taking vitamin supplements in the beginning a lot more though. I used my old cranberry juice jars from traders Joes and pour my tea in it for later use for blends.

I got a private message about how much I spend on supplements and such. I thought this was interesting – I thought it would be interesting to share some of my expenses to an extent.

Obviously, I live in California – so the price range for a pack of cigarettes is around 5 – 6 dollars – let’s just say 5.50 it all depends where you buy. New York is around 11 dollars by the way.

Say you use to be a pack a day smoker in Cali. That’s 38.50 a week for cigarettes - this does not include party weekends or holidays which you all know can be a lot more. Also the alcohol which we all know is the peanut butter for the jelly (cigarette) – so it can be a lot more.  I once killed a carton of Marlboro Reds with a buddy in Vegas for a weekend trip.

All natural organic juices – cranberry, orange, apple, guava, cherry, pineapple – around 26 dollars.

A box of 40 bags of green tea is 3.00. And rarely can finish in a week.

A bag of chia seeds is 6.00. And rarely can finish in a week.

Yogurt 5.00

Bananas – 2.00

Total is 42.00   - It is pretty much the same if you were still a smoker. Everyone can do it.

Vitamin supplements cost around .05 to .10 for one pill a day. – If you average it out.

This is the basis and this is what I buy on the top of my head each week –it also varies on what I buy and it’s usually cheaper each week because I don’t finish the orange juice, chia seeds, and tea in a week. I know this is a silly post but someone wanted to know and I’m here to help.

Good luck all.

I would like to say kiss my ass, and people like you make everyone who is quitting smoking smoke more.

Unnecessary.

Perhaps roddie wanted to emphasize the health benefits of quitting smoking in a very tangible way?

It's obvious that you are primarily interested in being a troll, and less interested in making any kind of productive counterpoint to what roddie said. No one is asking your ass to quit smoking or to visit this forum, especially to degrade people who are trying to give friendly advice, so we're sure as hell not going to kiss it.

Hi,

someone posted this link in regard with nicotine-withdrawal symptoms. I don't remember who or where is posted but I find it useful as is presenting allot of good additional information. That is why I am re-posting the link. (By the way  thank you to the original poster. )

Tip: as the all forum is in one page design, one can do a quick search say over the keyword "lung" and get fast responses. You will learn allot. I had though that sore throat and chest pressure are the most  common symptoms but if you look  for "pain" ..you will be surprised. I was ...

I hope everyone is feeling better

Hi All,

From last 2-3 days I am reading through all the posts, It is relieving to correlate my experiences with someone.

I quit on may 2012, almost 9 months.  10 a day habit of 7 years. I have also experienced almost all the withdrawal symptoms...

Stomach bloating/Breathing difficulty/diarrhoea/constipation/dizziness/body pain mainly around back. They occur in cycles one week 1 or 2 symptoms and next week some other symptom. Although the intensity has reduced drastically over the 8 months, This week I have the back pain.

Since the time of quitting my urine is darker then it used to be. No amount of water I drink it is little more darker in the morning. Anyone know relation between smoking cessation and urine. Is it a part of detox?

I wanted to list the things that would help during some of the symptoms.

Breathing difficulty: As many suggested long hot shower helps, Take cough lozenges to loosen the mucus and Do steam inhalation and cough out all the junk

Stomach bloating:  Ginger tea helps, Probiotic VSL#3 helped me

Dizziness: When I was feeling dizzy and cra*p, I had to cough out a ball of mucus/junk voluntarily, then I got the relief.

Deep breathing exercise always helps. In my opnion it helps for digestion and metabolism.

Note that all these info is from others post and some from my own experiences. I am in no way qualified to give medical advice.

Hi Istop,

It is good to share my experiences...

I am 34, Quit cold turkey on May 10th 2012. 10 a day habit of 7 years.

MONTH 1 & 2
DAY 11 Got severe stomach bloating with breathing problem... turned in to panic attack. Bloating and breathing problem gone subsequently in 2 days.

Almost a month passed with no issues. Did hiking, road trip on this period.

DAY 46
Bloating and breathing problem was back more severe, again turned in to panic attack.
SOB was so scary that I was feeling like would pass out any moment :(
Spend rest of the month in SOB and fear…The cycle was wrong diet would trigger bloating/breathing problems to panic attack

MONTH 3
Chest tightness, Shivers
Diarrhoea .Tested for Liver function test, Results were not normal. Doctor prescribed some Probiotics and said diarrhoea is because of stress.
Random dizziness, vision problems, feeling sleepy all the time
Excessive yawning in the late afternoons
Sore spot some 5 cm below the under arms, I considered it as sore ribs
Pain around the shoulder blade

MONTH 4
One of the nerve in the left leg & left hand was Shaking, Numbness in the left hand pinky finger.
Dizziness, feeling like going to faint. loosing balance.
Left ear pain, some sort of imbalance, not severe
Bloating/breathing problems
Sore ribs, Pain around the shoulder blade, Upper back pain
Started coughing up phlegm
Repeated Liver function tests, Results are normal

MONTH 5
Sore spots below underarm and back side of lungs
Coughing up phlegm once a while
Left ear pop out

MONTH 6
Coughing up phlegm once a while, always white phlegm.
Mild mid/lower back pain, not persistent nor severe, random location on the back

MONTHS 7-9
Sore throat
Coughing up phlegm once in the morning, almost always white phlegm
I try to cough up some junk using cough lozenges and steam inhalation

2 weeks back I got stomach bloating issue back but not as intense as before, used Pro-biotic and its under control. I have the back pain and some kind of discomfort in shoulder, inner side of biceps. These pains are not persistent nor severe.

Almost every day I get this excessive yawning sometime during the evening, I feel like I want to lie down at that moment and my eyes goes red during that time. After a while I feel normal. I am guessing that its related to my inadequate breathing.

Every now and then my left ear pops out, usually its associated with Sore throat and mucus movement.
I get sleep everyday but cant have the sound sleep almost every day I get weird dreams.

I don’t want any ciggy but now I think I shouldn't have done cold turkey. Sorry about my English.

Update - 7 months 3 days smoke free

I can honestly say I have not craved a cigarette in 6 months however I am really contemplating just going back to smoking. My once fun life is now a depressed, scared state. This detox is harder than anything I have ever experienced. At this point I think 20 less years on my life is better than not living it at all....ALWAYS some sypmtom rearing its ugly head. Recently is it the nausea, chest pains and still the heighten anxiety panic.

Please rest assured I am not looking to give myself permission to smoke again...I LOVE not smoking or being dependent on cigarettes...But I will not continue to feel so sick trying to be healthy....craziest thing ever!

Sorry to be negative nelly today but I'm on my last rope.

Best of luck to everyone....this hell is no joke!!

Thanks Kumar,

Me too...I have pretty much the same symptoms as you...and yes I have the excessive yawning...I've never asked my doctor about that but I guess its in relation to bad breathing.

I'll be posting within the next few days...keep on posting!
