Hi Iqbal, I read all your posts. Yes, we are on same timeline and pretty much same symptoms. keep posting...
Hi Franks72,
Don't quit quitting, You could be at the end of all symptoms.
Hi Kumar are your symptoms improving or are the same over time ?
Istop, Rob and Iqball looking forward for your update
Today is my first day of my 9th week. I am feeling a bit better. I still have digestive/stomach problems and weird pains I have noticed that everything is connected to my stomach. If I eat allot all the hell comes. It's like all my stomach nerves are linked to my mouth nerves brain nerves everything.. I need to eat small and healthy food portions. I guess all the nerves are healing ..... slow process I will update again at my 3 month mark
Hi mamabuna,
After 6 month mark the intensity reduced. I stopped worrying much and my anxiety also reduced.
I still get the symptoms mainly stomach problem/back pain albeit less intense.
I still don't know the reason for my dark urine.
Continue to have small meals and make a note of what food is good for you. I used to have soups, more fruits and green tea.
Thank you Kumar
soups, fruits and green tea is my diet right now. Fish and boiled chicken is my only meat intake. I lost 8 lb already. I am not sure if it's healthy to lose weight that fast. I also run 2-3 miles 3 times per week. Anyway I guess time will tell if we are getting better or not.
Kumar4uefi - My close friend mother only had SOB in her first month while using chantix. She then felt good for a few months and then got off chantix – she thought it was over. She then started coughing up phlegm on her 6th month. She went on getting more problems after her 6th month especially anxiety issues. She told me it took her along time to feel normal again - close to a year and half. She is doing much better now and feels great. Her son was on chantix for the first week and had crazy dreams and could not sleep. He stopped using chantix and decided to smoke again. It’s all different for others – even with help.
Urine in the morning is always more darker. You are getting rid of the waste that is stored during the night. My urine is always darker in the morning and I drink tons of water. I also take supplements and kind of go overboard while in taking vitamins naturally and my urine is darker because my body didn’t need the excess vitamins. Your body may still be working to heal your body and expelling the waste faster. I don’t think anyone will know for sure if it’s part of the detox. You may be over thinking every detail of your body. If you have gotten your urinalysis lately and it came back normal – I am sure you are over thinking it. Yes – the yawning is freaking weird, I know. I had it nonstop one day even though I was well rested.
Franks72 – I understand what you are going through. I still think about going back and I’m sure most of us will always have that thought till we die. Even if you go back – are you sure it will guarantee you will start feeling better? You are so far in with your detox – your body is used to this and your cigarette may make you feel worse. I say it give it some more time.
The common answer I hear from the smokers I know now – is that they will give up some time of their life if it makes them happy to smoke now. Life is short in the great scheme of things and saving any time of your life is worth it – in my personal opinion. Any extra; 15, 10, 5, or a year extra in life is important. It can mean seeing a grandchild graduating high school, or seeing a triple rainbow. But in quitting even helps give me an extra month in life in the future – I’ll take it. That month of extra life may let me see a new child or grandchild born. Why play roulette in life? It’s a safer bet to give you that extra time in life if you stay off. Sorry about this paragraph if some didn’t like it but that’s how I see things to keep me off the cigarettes.
MY UPDATE-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I quit on July 12, 2012. So I am 7 months exactly. The intensity of my pains in my abdominal area has greatly reduced since my 3rd month. I am feeling a lot better now and I just ignore the annoyances that are still occurring around my body. I try not to dwell on it because if I do, it makes it worst. I still get some numbing sensations on some parts of my muscles but I think it has to do with my exercising and not sure it is because of recovery symptoms.
Mamabuna – I lost a lot of weight during the early months. I looked frail. Now, my diets are pretty balanced and with my training - I have gained more weight than before because of the extra muscle I have been gaining. I think I lost 18 pounds in 3 weeks at one time which is not healthy. But it seems like you are losing weight the right way. You don’t want put your body in starvation mode like I did.
GOOD LUCK ALL – I’m always willing to help- PM if you need any assistance. Shout out to ISTOP.
Just wanted to give a quick update and apology after my vent the other day. I did not cave and smoke...I will beat this!! I do feel much better than I have in previous months....dealing with the nausea and pains can some days be a bit overwhelming. Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement....some days are much harder than others as you all are already aware.
Please stay on track no matter how hard...it is for a worthy cause. Rob is so right...even a day more on your life makes it worth it...thanks for the reminder Rob :)
Now on to my next goal...making it to month 8....best wishes to all!!
Hi Franks72
Rob is so right! Now you just won a big battle...you wrote it down. Good for you.
I'll be posting my update in 2-3 days
Istop
Hi guys,
Here's my 8 month update.
Quick summary : completely stopped smoking on June 18th 2012. First 3 weeks were perfect and then it started. Nausea during the night and day. Lots and lots of anxiety. Felt depressed. Stomach/digestive issues.
So I'm happy to say that I'm doing better. It's not yet finished but I'm much better. No more nausea (since month 3). The anxiety level has dropped considerably...almost non-existent. I still have thoughts of being sick but they don't last.
The only thing remaining is the stomach/digestive/intestinal issues that have also improved. I'm able to accept them. I've been using Probiotics and I changed my eating habits. It might also be psychological at this point because I have the issues mostly at the same time in the morning around 5:30...not before and not after. It might also be physical...who knows? No doctor can tell for sure...So I accept it. I did have, a few weeks ago, a moment where I didn't accept it and I got really mad at the situation. It lasted a few days and then I've accept it.
This website, with you guys has helped me a lot. I know it's not over yet but it's getting better.
Next update at 9 month.
Good luck to all and keep on posting! I will read them all

[21 February 2013] I'm 27 years old. 9 years smoking. This is my experience in quit smoking.
I quit smoking since 20 April 2012. When I stop, I was suffering food poisoning. With this opportunity I resolve to quit smoking (cold turkey). The following are symptoms that occur to me since the first day I quit smoking:
3 days - 2 weeks = abdominal pain, high fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fainting, loss of appetite, fatigue, blurred vision, loss of interest in the hobby.
2 weeks - 2 months = Anxiety, depression, high fever, nausea, vomiting, phlegm, sore throat, dry throat, loss of appetite, shortness of breath (SOB), lung irritation, chest tight, strong heartbeat, tiredness.
2-4 months = Anxiety, SOB, lung irritation, dizziness, fainting, sore throat, dry throat, strong heartbeat
4-6 months = Anxiety, SOB, lung irritation, dizziness, sore throat, dry throat, strong heartbeat
6-7 months = Anxiety, SOB, chest suddenly became cold and heavy feeling at left muscle. I feel very down. Feel like want to die.
7-9 months = (<25%) Anxiety, cold symptom, heart palpitations, body aches, sore throat (probably hypothyroid) and boredom. From my experience, when I had a sore throat, it will also experience shortness of breath, headache, and upper chest discomfort. This adds another episode of my anxiety and feel like want to die
Month 9 = (<50%) Anxiety, heart palpitations (mybe cause of anxiety), body aches (always at my back body), dry mouth and throat (feel dry from adam's apple until upper chest).
Month 10 = (<75%) Anxiety, gas (related with light headache+ feel unbalance).
According to my timeline, you all can see that I'm getting recovered from nicotine withdrawal. Honestly I feel recovered, although there are still some minor symptoms.
Now I feel very satisfied with my condition. I can prove that I can quit smoking even the path to quit is difficult (for my case).
Now I am able to see the light in the dark tunnel, for now. Haha...:-D
I will keep posting.
Hello. I am unsure if I am doing this correctly. I just found this site and have spent the last hour reviewing all your posts. It is very heartening to know that I am not alone in reference to being continually sick since I quit smoking. If I may, I would like to ask some questions as I am only on my way to my third month. I appreciate any thoughts you might have.
I quit December 11, 2012 after a life time of smoking. Due to two bouts of bronchitis in fall and winter last year, I had tapered down to 5 a day and then quit completely. I did use nicotine patches for three weeks. After I discontinued those it has been a nightmare. For the first time out of the blue debilitating bouts of asthma (according to my doctor), prescription after prescription of prednisone and asthma controllers, and finally now in addition to the asthma just plain anxiety and for the first time in my life severe depression.
I have an appointment on Thursday with my Doctor to just lay it on the line. I feel I have more steriods in my body now than excuse me but Lance Armstrong. I can't live on these types of meds daily. It is just not worth it. On own I have supplemented my diet with vitamins etc. My problem is my breathing. I am fine for a week or two and then it just fares up. I am constantly wheezing and short of breath. Did any of you experience these types of issues? Also a strange question, but since quitting one of my lungs seems to hurt more than the other when I experience pain. Is that possible? I feel better when I cough but I just haven't been coughing. Prior to quitting I was walking 3 miles a day and now with the asthma I can't walk to my car some days.
Forgive my incessant whining. I think I have just reached that point where it is all I can do not to just go out, buy a pack and light one up. In my depressed state, I figure I would at least have a reason for shortness of breath. Thank you for letting me vent.
To the person who has bad English and 25.
Your heart was tested and fine so don’t worry about exercising. You should read other post and get some pointers on beating your symptoms. Exercising and long steam showers will help your lungs and make you feel good in general. Deep breathing exercises may also benefit you. Anxiety and depression is the most common thing for all quitters. So you have to learn to adapt to it. It took me awhile and I am still currently fighting it. But I am lot better than my first 4 months. Good Luck
Smokefree –
I did have a cyst grow in my right side of the neck around my 4th month. It was small but very noticeable – obviously, I freaked out. My dumbass tried to lance it myself and I failed miserably. I went to the doctor the next morning and he diagnosed it and put me on antibiotics for 14 days. It was a pain in the ass taking that stupid red pill every 6 hours. It messed up my stomach as well.
My cyst is gone but I still feel a small little pimple size lump – but its scar tissue because of me trying to lance it and hurting myself. It’s not noticeable anymore and it’s nonexistent to the eye. Dr. said it’s probably an ingrown hair that started it – then it went crazy. I doubt it is from smoking cessation but don’t take my word for it. Everyone gets cysts and similar - some more often than others. It could be in our genetics because my family member gets noticeable cysts as well. But in your case it could just be a random encounter. I do know since I quit smoking I get more paranoid about everything. Every little difference in my body I start getting anxiety and start freaking out. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If the antibiotics does not help it out then the doctor would probably just quickly remove it. Good Luck and let us know what happened.

Thanks for your update. I feel your pain bud. The anxiety and horrible gas is still with me and I’m in my 7th month. It wasn’t as bad as before but it lingers. I am pretty comfortable with my new life and like you am satisfied with my condition. But it’s not over yet I personally feel we are not done with this battle until at least our second year. Thanks Again.

I am sorry about your pains. We all went through a fight of depression and anxiety and many are still going through it. I have never known what it felt like until I quit smoking. It was all new to me and I was severely depressed. But I am improving and had to train my brain to overcome it. I still have anxiety issues at times but I am much better than before. All symptoms are different for others. I had SOB but I hardly cough at all and had no phlegm during my early months. Many cough up phlegm a lot but for me it was totally opposite. I just had SOB and my chest was tight. Hang in there and try to not over think it. I know it’s hard but try to do things to keep your mind off things. Good Luck
Quick Update – Pretty much the same as ISTOP and IQB. Weird we are the same when it comes to our symptoms.
