It does take time for some, apparently...

In my case, it's been 6 months and even though I crave cigarettes and do not smoke anymore, I'm still being aggravated by back pains and what the doctors say is anxiety....

And while anxious about your health (as I suppose you would normally be after ingesting poison for years - That's where I went rantionally) you start to get deeper into medical checkups and they start finding things incidentally...

Then it gets REALLY scary.

In my case not only do I have a borderline enlarged spleen but also a tiny spot on my lung and bone spurs in my upper spine, which is rare form of spinal degeneration...Doctors say AH you're fine! But now I find myself on cancer watch and have to see a chiropractor for a spine problem, to boot...The hell happened to me?

My point is: Be careful what you wish for...If you think there's a problem and continue to see doctors, eventually they WILL find something and you will have to deal with it...So don't be surprised...

Cigarettes DO mask all sorts of c**p....

Hi Smokefree,
Did your Uric acid levels come to normal. I have burning sensation around my waists for few weeks. I have not had blood test for Uric acid. Need to check.

I am into my 3rd month. I smoked a pack a day for 36 years. The first 2 weeks the cravings were strong. To stay motivated I kept a picture of a smokers lung with me. And a copy of a list of famous people and people I knew who were killed by the nicotene monster. Anytime it started getting to me I would go for a walk. But I would not waver. Then it got easier for 3 weeks. afterwards it was tighness in my chest, insomnia, nausea in my stomach and anxiety like crazy. My doctor gave me some Bupropion. I highly recommend it for anxiety and depression. I also changed my eating habits. I start my day with oats and nuts now instead of cholestoral. I have read where eating pineapple helps remove tar. I started walking as well. Now I mix that with jogging slowly. It is a long road, but I can see already it is worth it. I can tell anyone out there smoking that no one ever loved Marleboro lights and Phillip Morris more than me. If I can quit anyone can.

I am almost 12 months in and I feel like c**p!  I am sick with something every other week ti seems.  Migraines are worse, urinary tract, 3 stomach viruses this year, and 4 sinus infections.  I feel like I am falling apart / always sick.  I also have gained 30lbs and started depression meds.  :(    I guess it feels good to not be alone, but have yet to read how to FIX this problem.

What meds did the docs put you on? I was placed on Lexapro and lasted 10 days. It was crazy how it made me feel. Now I just tough it out but it is not easy I am a little over 6 months in. I am much better than 4 months ago so it is a slow process and hope it's all gone on 12 months in. A good friend of mine took 12 months before he felt better.

So are you still doing OK? I'm 6 months in and was OK for a few weeks but the last few days now bad anxiety and shortness of breath from it. How long before it all went away.. seems like it will never happen.

I know it's been a long time but how are you feeling these days for quitting? How long has it been now?

I'll take clearing of the throat anytime over anxiety. I hope that passes. I'm only 6 1/2 months in

Quit smoking 5 months ago after 16 years of smoking a pack per day.

As for many of you it was smooth sailing the first few weeks, then all of a sudden heart palpitations started. I freaked out of course and headed to the doctor for a couple of blood tests and a ECG (all normal of course). Anxiety was through the roof too because I made the foolish mistake of googling my symptoms - Hello heart attack. The palpitations disappeared after a few weeks but lately I have been feeling them again. I also get mild tingling in my left and foot. This has been going on for a week or so.

I have some form of digestive issues like upset stomach and acid reflux too since I quit but that has been getting better lately.

What else? Oh yeah... Last time I quit for a few months I got prostatitis like pain which didn't go away for a full year or more. I don't remember anymore. Nothing was ever found and I was to a million doctors and specialists. I blame the cigarettes and nicotine withdrawal.

I hope I get through this and don't start smoking again. I just wish these damn palps would stop soon!

Stay strong brothers and sisters!

Smoked 30 years about a pack a day and I'm on 7 months post quitting cold turkey.  things have gotten slightly better and then it's like you take a few steps backwards for a couple of weeks.  Still having anxiety that comes and goes, heart palpitations and irregular pulse as the anxiety creeps up.  I'm not on medication for anxiety and hope to manage it on my own, clearing my throat a good deal and mucus in my throat when I wake up in the morning.   Scary stuff are these strange electrical shock feelings every now and again.  Not sure if I am jst overly senstive now to any change of issue near my heart and in my chest from all the withdrawal symptoms.   Maybe it's time for another drs visit.   Breathing is better on some days and then out of breath again climbing stairs.-overall great improvement over the first few months......
