Gut problems are caused by too much bad bacteria, improve gut health by including good quality prebiotics and eating correctly. Follow an Ibs diet and do lots of research on Internet. Look up dysbiosis. I have suffered for 5 years no help from doctors and finally have found a cure through a dietitian naturopath.

When you quit smoking your body tries to repair itself by ridding itself of toxins. The only way it can do this is by toxins passing through the stomach and urinary tract. You have to increase your water intake to about a gallon a day to help the body wash away toxins smoothly. If don't, consume enough water the toxins will sit in your digestive tract and causes the problems you are experiencing.

I have had all the same issues After 2 years of quitting. I was told and have further researched that quitting smoking may trigger ulcerative coilitis. I am using LDN and it has been effective with symptoms.

33 days CT. I try quitting because of mild pain on my chest, I started by reducing my sticks gradually per day, on my 3rd day heartburn hit me and I'm just reducing my stick not totally stopping, I had chest pain and severe back pain and went to ER they did ECG, result was normal and Doctor said it must be acid reflux.

all of the symptoms you read in this topic. most of them I have them, what make this withdrawal hard because of stomach problem.

I know all of the health nut and pro exercise people are not going to like this-but you wabt to know what made my stomach feel better at least for a while: strawberry milkshakes. I made one for my son at home-vanilla ice cream, strawberry preserves & a scoop of strawberry nesquick (yeah, dont judge, it was what I had on hand), ice, & some whole milk. I made too much & had some left over so drank about a 10-13 ounce glass. My stomach hadnt felt that goid in weeks. I was able to get a good nights sleep. Just throwing it out there-cuz I feel your pain. Stopped smoking over 2 months ago and my stomach has been a wreck. My breathing is much improved and got rid of my smokers cough-but I agree with you guys: nobody ever mentions the "tummy-terror"!

Another side note-got my son a trampoline for his b-day a month ago. I have been going out there & jumping on it with him (for brief intervals: 5-10 mins at a time) 2-3 times a day. Its hard, but its fun-it has helped tone me up after years of little activity due to my smokers lungs. The truth? It has helped ny feel better, but not my tummy trouble.
Good luck everyone!

Nobody wants to say this-but start Vaping. It will not really help all 2 much with the tummy trouble-but it WILL (after u get used to it, give it 1-2 weeks) keep your lungs/breathing up to par. Speaking from experience. Tummy troubles are horrible, but I can wait that out cuz I know it will get better (eventually *sigh*). Good luck. Also-if u are despetate to ease tummy trouble-see my poston pg 16 about strawberry milkskakes.

I smoked for 40 years and quit 7 months ago and I am so proud of myself. Thank you for sharing your health related issues because there comes a point you feel like you are going crazy. I know now that I am not alone. Constipation, bloating, gas, burping, anxiety, insomnia, depression. Have been to numerous doctors and too many tests to list. However recently I started digestive enzymes along with Miralax everyday and I am starting to feel like my old self. I hope this may help others. God Bless

Hi,
I know your post is old, but did you ever find a solution? I'm a petite 37 year old female, who exercises daily and eats really well. I quit almost 6 months ago and I cannot take the water retention and digestion problems anymore. I had a few smokes this week to fix it. While they were disgusting, like you said, it took care of the problem and instantly I was thin again. It's all so frustrating. I'm desperate for an answer, as I really don't want to smoke again.

Thanks,
Cara
