Hi, im a 20 year old female and I've been sexually active for about 4 years and I've recently started sleeping with a new partner with condoms, I came off the pill about 3 months ago and on the second time of sleeping with this guy on Wednesday he noticed halfway through intercourse that I was bleeding, i had my period already so I didn't know what it was I stood up and blood began to pour down my legs and continued heavy all night and eased up slightly it's now Sunday and it seems to be finally stopping, it's not the same colour as my period it's alot brighter & also doesn't smell the same, I'm extremely concerned as to what's happening & extremely scared it will happen again as it's very embarrassing especially with a new partner, I've been checked for STDs in the past & I know I'm not pregnant so it couldn't of been a misscarraige, the sex was slightly rougher than I'm used to but I cant understand if that was the cause why it would of caused so much blood, I'd really appreciate some advice as to what could be the problem or any women who've had the same & if it was just a one off, I'm too scared to have sex again & too embarrassed to discuss this with him. Thank you
Hi! There are many possible causes of vaginal bleeding during or after sexual intercourse and you should always bring vaginal bleeding to the attention of your gynecologist. Vaginal bleeding is nothing you need to feel bad or embarrassed about. Small amounts of bleeding noticed after intercourse may be caused by small vaginal tears in the vaginal wall or even on the vulva (the outside parts of a woman’s genitals). Benign growths in the uterus (such as polyps and fibroids) may also be linked to bleeding during or after intercourse and, again, this is a reason why vaginal bleeding should be brought to a healthcare provider’s attention as polyps and fibroids aren’t something you can diagnose yourself.
