Hi, I have a problem that I don't know how to deal with. Couple of months ago I had some problems with my penis. It was a kind of an inflammation that was very disturbing, so I went to see a doctor. He told me I have a fungal infection. He prescribed some medicine that helped me. But, after a while the infection came back. Should I see the doctor again? What might be the cause for this recurrent fungal infection?
Hi, fungal infections are very common. Fungi are present all over our body and don't harm us. But, sometimes they can spread and cause infection. This happens usually after the use of antibiotics, or when the immune system's function is impaired. And since the genital area is a perfect environment for these organisms, these parts of the body are commonly affected by fungal infections. When you were diagnosed for the first time the doctor has probably prescribed you with some antifungal medicines. It was very important for you to use all of the prescribed medication. If you stopped the treatment earlier than the doctor has told you, there is a chance that the infection was not completely cured. Because of this the infection came back again. Also, it is equally essential that you keep good personal hygiene. If you keep your genital area clean, you will minimize the chances for the infection to reoccur. You should definitely see the doctor again, but this time follow his every order if you want to stop the recurrent fungal infection.
