My doctor gave me a large tube of this clotramazole cream. I assume i stopped using it too soon because it did clear up but came back a little bit after i stopped using it. Slight red rash along edge of upper lip that produces flaking skin and feels irritated. Ill use again and report back success here.

I found my issue. Guys: look up Perioral dermatitis (aka: Periorificial dermatitis).
Stop using hot water on your face. Showers will never be the same. It helps a ton.

I have had the same thing for years now, it just started up one day and never fully goes away. With steroid creams it calms down the redness and if i keep it shaven it starts to go back to normal (for a while). My doctor just writes it off as eczema which I never had growing up... It is so frustrating.

I have this problem too, it started the moment I got a job where I could be relaxed on shaving. I remember it started small then took over my upper lip like a mustache worm!
I have asthma, but I doubt it's a link because it's only been an issue for the last 3 years. I've have success reducing the redness with dry skin cream but it never fully goes.
I did read somewhere about it being yeast or fungus build up. Maybe we should look there. Also, wonder if a lack of exposure to the sun is an issue??
Just thoughts.
I will keep checking in and hopefully someone gets something.
Peace.

Strong anti dandruff shampoo, apply as directed on packaging, mine says leave on, undiluted, for 10 minutes per day for a week. I have all the same symptoms and it really makes a difference

i have the same problem. my rash is not only in the moustache area but around my mouth and down into the chin so that it looks like i have a red goatee. very embarrassing. i live in a very humd area, louisiana, but i think my rash has something to do with the hard water they use here.
my rash gets worse if i go more than two days without shaving. i did not think about shaving twice a day. interesting, i will try it.

I've had this problem off and on for decades. I've noticed it's much worse when I live in cool climates, and rarely shows up when I'm spending a lot of time outdoors in warm climates. Of course if I go a week or so without shaving it can show up regardless. Or if I don't get enough sleep for a few days in a row. Or if I get stressed out. (Usually a combination of these things.) I've never found a product that helps once it shows up. It will go away after a few days of shaving regularly, whether I use anything or not. I don't use shaving cream or even soap up, as it's never made a difference for me if I do or not.
When I was living in Utah, the winters were horrible. Outbreaks were almost constant even when shaving regularly.
When I was living in SoCal and going to the beach every day I had little no problems with it. Even going significant periods of time without shaving it wouldn't show up if I was swimming in the ocean every day.
Now I live in the Philippines and it rarely bothers me, though I don't get to the beach as often as I'd like. 4 significant outbreaks in the last 8 years, almost always when there was cool weather (double whammy as I stay indoors more). This last month has been very cool here (relatively speaking) and windy ... with a lot of rain. I had some business to take care of on US hours so had a messed up sleeping schedule. Have to go to the consulate to get a new passport. And I stupidly didn't shave for a few days ... so now it's back.

It may be a type of yeast infection, try using Viaderm-K.C Cream for a week (it is a corticosteriod, antifungal, antibacterial and anti inflammatory cream) then once it has healed a bit keep using it it in combination with Clomazol (broad spectrum antifungal) for a further week even if it looks like its gone. Go over the area and further round, like nostrils and side of your nose, side of mouth and some cheek, just stay well away from the eyes.
The double whammy should cure it long term. Good luck.

Hi. I have the same red permanent irritated upper lip from shaving. I started applying Tea Tree Oil a couple times a day. It is an anti-inflamatory and helps the redness. Mine has not gone away completely away but it definitely helps

Hello
I have this condition as well. I am 32 and it started 3 years ago. When I was 26, I grew a beard for the first time and kept it for 3ish years and then when I shaved for the first time, I had red patches. Especially noticeable in my mustache area but also cheeks and and chin too. Very red post shaving for up to two days. I usually just try to keep stubble because it's gross but I'm sick of it. I also get flaking skin in the same region, mostly from Fall - Spring, not much in the Summer. It's extremely embarrassing.
I find sun definitely aids in clearing it up. I will say I am genetically per-disposed to bad skin, my mother suffers from rosacea. I also get red bumps on my upper chest, but I believe that to be from sweat, as I work out often.
And speaking of working out, I don't believe this condition can be attributed to exercise. I'm pretty active, I goto the gym and lift every day and I also run 5-10K every other day. Probably not attributed much to diet either, but I am going to experiment a bit with it. I have a pretty healthy diet, could be better but I don't consume much sugar, gluten or dairy but I do consume a bit.
I am going to completely rid my diet of any sugar, gluten and dairy for 30 days and see if that has any effect it all. If I notice any positive results, I will then reintroduce each one and see.
