I’ve heard that one could suffer both reflux and anemia, hand in hand, and that reflux could be the cause of anemia. Is it true? This is kind of bet, so any answer would be appreciated!!

It is a bit strange that you, Dave, are playing with this things, but I’ll try to answer your questions. First, it really is possible to have both reflux and anemia – it’s not to rare case. Some inner bleeding, like the one caused by irritated esophagus, can cause anemia; and reflux is causing irritation of esophagus. Also, B12 deficiency could cause anemia, and again this deficiency could be a result of treatment of reflux with meds like Pepcid and Zantac. But, then, B12 deficiency could also cause reflux disease, since this deficiency causes muscle spasms that could lead to failure of esophagus’ valve! So, even if it’s just a part of your bet you should find more elaborated answers, since there are no plain simple ones in medicine!
