Hi,
I have a question and I would be very glad if someone with experience could answer it… I am 38 old female and having an operation in month that is called thyroidectomy. They are going to operate on my neck and I am wondering if there will be any scar tissue following thyroidectomy?
Very thankful for replies!

Hey,
I had that operation.
A small cut is made in the neck near the collar line and then the soft tissues of the neck are explored and all or part of the thyroid gland is removed.
Concerning scar tissue following thyroidectomy: after several weeks the wound should heal well and it is almost invisible after 12 months.
Hope your operation will work out fine!

Hello there vanderlinden.

I presume that the doctor has explained you everything concerning the procedure so it is natural the only thing you are worried after you have all the answers concerning the operation is how big is the scar going to be. I am a woman so I can understand that you are concerned because this is your neck and during the summer you can’t wear scarf. Luckily this scar is going to fade away after a year and maybe even a little bit longer. This depends how fast your skin is regenerating.

After all you can always try to hide it with makeup and some powder is a great strategy. I wish you good luck with your surgery.
