Hi. I'm 27 year old female and I have developed one very delicate and unpleasant condition. First, I would like to say that I have never had any problems with acne and that this pretty scared me.
About ten days ago I have noticed that I have developed one small bump on my thoracic back! I didn’t pay too much attention on it, covered it with some antibacterial treatment and thought it will disappear by it self! But with time- the bump just kept growing and turned into real cyst, red and painful!
A friend told me that it is some sebaceous cyst! Is it possible that I could develop this on my back?
What should I do?

Hello. I see that you are frightened a bit but I can insure you that many people had the same problems. Yes, your friend could be right. Thoracic back is very common localization of these cysts.
Sebaceous cysts are like some small sacs just beneath the skin that are filled with an oily, white material called sebum.
It happens ff a gland's duct becomes blocked the sebum is still made.
Bacterial superinfection of this sebum could make the whole place red and swollen.
Because you’ve mentioned that your cyst is read and painful, I believe your doctor will at first prescribe you some antibiotics. But you should know that the definitive management of sebaceous cysts is operative removal.

I had a facial sebacous cyst develop on my right cheek in 2005 and i went to my doctor to have it assessed.

He told me that they develop almost anywhere on the body and the usual treatment is surgical removal.

I had to got in to hospital to have it done, it took about 10-15 minutes or so and i didn't feel a thing..nothing!

They numb the area with a local jab (you don't even feel this because they numb the area with a topical gel first!). I got 5 stitches and your scar will fade considerably over time.

I feel you will have to have this cyst on your back removed, but i wouldn't worry about it in the slightest as the procedure is minor.
