I had a Laprescopy (spell check) performed in January 2010 by "student doctors" at a hospital in Philadelphia. My recovery was very slow and painful. To this day, I still suffer with chronic abdominal pain on the lower right side and navel (incision site) and below the navel in the pelvis area. The pain is usually accompanied by nausea and headaches. The pain is constant and becoming unbearable. It wakes me up out of my sleep. I've been to the ER and to my PCP but nobody seems to know what is wrong with me. I was recommended to a GI specialist but have been having trouble seeing one. At the ER they noticed spots on my liver and BV..anyone been diagnosed with either of these two problems before? Or does any of this sound similar to sumthin you've went thru?
I believe the liver spots came from percocets that I have to take for the pain..if I stop taking them I won't even be able to get out of bed each day:-(
I am a 24 yr old mother of one and I am very scared. Please advise!

Laproscopy is just a method for doing surgical procedures – instead of making the big incisions to get to some of the abdominal organs like gallbladder nowadays surgeons just need half an inch incision and special equipment and that way of doing surgical procedures is called laproscopy. Hernia surgeries that few years ago required large wounds and sutures today almost leave no scars because they are done this way. So, that is not the problem, but the reason why you had the procedure in the first place might still be causing the pain you feel now. What was the problem than? It’s hard to say what is the cause for the pain without more information.

Thanks. I had the procedure because I had gallstones. I am very slim but I eat a lot..mainly fatty and fried foods..that's the reason I had to get my gallbladder removed. My weight loss is extravagent. I've loss over 25lbs since the surgery. So whatever the problem is it must be affiliated with the weight loss.

This much weight loss is definitely sign something is wrong because problem with gallbladder is solved and it’s still not ok. Besides pain, obviously. You changed your diet now, right? And what is the reason for hold-up with GI specialist? No one else would know how to deal with this pain better than him, that’s why I’m asking.
I would say it’s something to do with your stomach? When I lost this much weight and went through months of abdominal pain it turned out to be because of an ulcer I never knew I had. So I ended up in surgery and even now I can’t eat half of things I did.

When I was recommended to see a GI specialist I had just switched jobs. I could not take time off due to a probation period. Now, I had an appointment yesterday to see one and they made me reschedule for a very lame reason. No other GI Doctors would see me immediately, they all said they have openings next month. I'm going to disappear by then! I only weigh 105lbs now:-( I feel terrible every day. I've had diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and my appetite has INCREASED instead of decreasing. My diet has changed some what but due to the fact that I'm ALWAYS hungry, I eat a lot.

What kind of surgery did you have? The triage nurse at the ER said it could be ulcers or a cyst. I'm trying to find a doctor that will see me ASAP but it doesn't look promising.. that's why I'm on here..trying to atleast have some kind of idea about what is going on so that I won't think that I am dying.

My stomach ulcer burst and they kept me in the waiting room for like five hours after that so things gotten a lot worse than they needed to be – if they had done the test in time medications would help and I probably wouldn’t need surgery at all. So I completely understand frustration with the doctors.
Now, if the pain suddenly changes just go straight to the er and in the meantime continue trying to get to the GI. You’re not going to die but you don’t need to go through this also.
I know you’re hungry but for now you have to completely change the things you eat. Nothing fatty, fried, no sodas or sweets. Just a few bites a meal, but eat more often. If its stomach this is what GI would have told you anyway. You have to keep irritations to stomach to a minimum and this is the only way to do that.
I know how scary it is, but just hang on and watch what you eat.

That's horrible! I hope you're ok now. I will take everything you said into consideration. I will try to eat in smaller, healthy proportions ..the only problem with that is I'm certain I will lose more weight if I do. I will stalk the GI doctors if I have to. That's the only thing on my mind nowadays.
Thanks a lot, you've helped ease my mind :-)

Keep stalking them until you know what’s going on
It's more or less ok now - no pain or anything as long as I completely stick to diets and medications.
Make sure that you add some protein source like lean meat and rice to your meals, that way you’ll minimize further weight lose without irritating your stomach further.
Let me know if you find out anything, hope you’ll get better soon!
