I found out this past holiday that showering/bathing with SHEA Butter body wash helps me ALOT. Also bathing in Spongebob bubblegum foam bath (yeah I know it sounds stupid but I'm a fan) really helps not to itch.

that says that something called sodium lauryl sulfate or SLS is used in scientific testing to break down skin to let irritants in, but is also what is used in most soaps, shampoos and conditioners to make them foam. It could also be listed as a natural foaming agent or some sort of coconut acid or agent since that's where it comes from - coconuts.

I'm going to try to find all 3 things without this product and give that a go. It also says that it may take up to 17 days to get SLS out of the system.  Personally I've found dove one of the worst irritants for my skin and I just went and looked at a bottle and sure enough it was there, along with every other shampoo this household of women has in it, except for one!

Worth a try! *fingers crossed * and good luck to the rest of you!

I ve been having this problem for a year now and it first started on my ankles and later to being my hold body as well as itching on my thighs throughout the day. I’m in the navy and I’m a hospital corpsman so I’m pretty good at diagnosing myself but this one thing I couldn’t understand. It began in the winter months when I was stationed in VA and I was miserable when it started. It took me no time to see a dermatologist who told me all you have is dry skin. Nothing in my diet had change or any products or detergent so I was convinced I had to be a disease until it went away in the spring but reappeared in the late summer when I arrived to California. Being stationed on a ship you have to take a shower regularly and I noticed I would itch here and there and couldn’t understand what was triggering it. So recently I talked to my father about my situation and how this was ruining my life and he asked me how much laundry detergent do I use in my washes. I replied I use about 2 cap full with no extra rinse he was shocked he said that’s the reason you itch so much. I would wash 3 shower towels with 2 full cups of liquid detergent. That was a big no no because my towels were the root cause of my itching.

I tested myself today I washed all my clothes with just a tad bit of detergent and an extra rinse and guess what happen after I dried myself with my towel.

NO ITCH at all.

My thighs aren’t even itching because of my boxers being soaked with so much detergent.

I hope this helps alot  of people.

i've had this problem for 20+ yrs and there are basically only 2 ways for me that makes it bearable. try a long hot bath and there is no itching afterwards or when you get sun tanned it will be much better after a shower. i have the problem year round. i wish there could me a permanent medical cure but haven't found anything in my research

I also found that not scrubbing hard in the shower helps just lightly and everything else mentioned by Maymie, I have done since I was 6 years Old. I am now 32 and it has helped keep the itch to about 2 - 3 mins and sometimes not even have it at all. Long baths make it worse for me but definitely a very hot shower, using lotion inmmediately in a very cool place with air conditioner

So glad to read about this. I really thought I was crazy..... it hurts so bad sometimes.  I have noticed that if the shower looses hot water at the end it makes the itch much worse.  If I turn up the water temp right at the end it really helps, and drying off with the room steamy helps.  But the ONLY remedy I have found once the itch starts is to smoke some high grade marijuana. seriously. It helps, almost immediately.  Not going to work for everyone, but if you are in a state that allows medical use I would suggest giving it a try.  Thanks to everyone who posted about their experience with this unusual and painful ailment.

I'm 17 and have the same problem. For me it's only the soles of my feet and the palms of my hands. When I get out of the shower they itch terribly, so bad I honestly don't know what to do with them! I have found the longer my showers are the more itchy they are, so my showers are now shorter. I have many allergies (I used to get allergy shots but had to stop when I moved to japan) but not any severe food allergies I know of.
I though putting lotion on my palms after the shower would help, but when i did my hands swelled up and became really red and blotchy! Any ideas?
