Laproscopic Bi-lateral Inguinal Hernia Repair with Mesh – November 2012:

MY PRIOR POSTS: Guest 12/29/12 2:50 PM, Guest 1/28/13 2:03 PM, Guest 3/9/13 10:46 AM, Guest 4/2/13 1:58 PM & Guest 6/18/13 11:46 AM.

Well, here I am again 1 ¼ years after the original hernia surgery, recovering from a Bi-lateral Hydrocelectomy which was caused by the original bi-lateral hernia repair in Nov 2012.  Had to live with the swelling and pain for over a year before getting a second surgery to address the ongoing residual swelling issues that never went away; and hopefully a high riding painful right testi.  Jock-strapping it for a full two weeks or more with ice every hour or two this time around.  Post surgery pain wasn’t as bad as the hernia repair, but it still felt like I took a swift kick between the legs the first few days; complete with radiating pain up into the groin on both sides.  Swelling wasn’t as bad and no discoloration of skin occurred this time around.  What a long year+ it’s been!  Hoping this will be all over after another few months of recovery and things will be somewhat back to normal after 1 ½ years.  Currently one week out of surgery and fingers crossed…

This will be my last post unless further issues arise and/or it doesn’t correct the residual problems from the original hernia repair.  I sincerely hope posting this very personal experience here helps others prepare for what can happen.  My advice to others considering hernia repair is to select your “experienced” surgeon carefully.  Insure he isn’t pressured for time during surgery (not an assembly line surgeon) and isn’t a “bull in a china closet” type of person.  If the doctor doesn’t explain the possibility of severe painfully testicular swelling up front, move on to another surgeon.  Wear a jockstrap for weeks and ice frequently for 20 minutes on, an hour or so off.  It’s a pain to do, but helps greatly (I rotated two ice packs in/out of the freezer).  Take a couple laxatives/stool softeners right out of surgery and one with each pain pill you take until things normalize.  Plan on a few weeks of do nothing recovery time.  Don’t push it.  Most importantly of all, don’t be surprised like I was, if your twins swell up like a grape fruit on day 2-3 of the recovery!  You are now warned that this “may” happen.

Best of luck to all that read this.  I truly hope you have an uneventful surgery and speedy recovery.

I have experience some swelling in the loose skin on the penis, but not of the penis itselt. I have had four hernia repairs. I had all the swelling and the black and blue penis. But the shaft of the penis did not swell just the loose skin of the penis.

Thanks. Very similar story and now had op last week. Have been convinced the last few days the mass is back, even though I've taken recovery very slowly. I feel reassured now that hopefully it's just fluid. Still going to see a doctor though I think.

Re: severe, persistant scrotal swelling- Last year in July, I had a rt. scrotal Inguinal hernia surgery and the pain was managable but the rt. ball/scrotal sack swelled up to about 4x normal (the size of a small apple) and became a deep purple/red while the skin ofthe sack became extra thick. My wife had to call the MD who was a colleague of hers to describe the condition since the surgeon never told me to expect this after surgery. My fears were allayed and the swelling went down after about 3 days. My wife chose the surgeon and I'm glad she did because the 'cut' I was told was so expert that the scar- if you can call it that is alomost negligible.

I had my bilateral inguinal hernia surgery on June 13, 2014, and my scrotum started swelling on the second day afterward. There's been no bruising, but my scrotum is about the size of a small canteloupe. Sitting is very uncomfortable, and lying down to sleep is painful. Urinating is a challenge as well, because my scrotum is so swollen that it's completely engulfed my penis. I get my surgical staples out on the 28th of June, and I see my surgeon on July 3rd. Should I be concerned that there's so much swelling?

I'm seriously depressed, I've gained 20 lbs since the surgery, and in constant discomfort, I know That my hernia had 1/2 lb of bowel in my scrotum for close to 8 months, please Will somebody with my similar situation tell me When I will go back to normal, please Need feedback

Had laparoscopic bi lateral hernia surgery 7/8/14 - and it is now 7/23/14 and I am so lucky!! I have had minor cord swelling and tenderness on left side and right is only occasionally, but gone now. Day of surgery - not really with it much. Day 2 & 3 pain, but manageable ( 1/2 pain pill). Day 4 until now have had only minor set backs that I rebound from quickly. The main thing I can offer from my post is STAY POSITIVE!! This is a bump in the road. Try meditation and deep breathing and focus on your body and it's amazing ability to heal. I know how your manhood is affected by all this re-arranging in one of the most sensitive areas of your body. If you haven't gone thru hernia repair surgery, my post won't matter. Be with people that are positive. Again, deep focused cleansing breaths of oxygen. My best to all.

I had my inguinal hernia about a month ago and the same thing happened to me.  The right testicle was huge and swollen.  All went away as the Dr. told me it would.  I had the incision on the right side and feeling better every day but the first 2.5 weeks were pretty scary.  Good luck with all of you posters.

day 9 of open inguinal hernia surgury left side. Had hernia for 5 years with no pain. Surgury was estimated to take 45 minutes, took 2and 1/2 hours. Here is what has been working for me:

ice the scotum for first 5 days (20 minutes on, 40 minutes off)

after 5 days, swelling is reduced but scrotum is rock hard

stop ice and start warm (as hot as you can stand) towel compress around scrotum for 20 on 40 off. This gets the old blood and fluids moving. Elevate scrotum above your heart For sleeping and as often as possible when awake. Get small adjustable battery operated bullet vibrator. Put it between your leg and scrotum, moving it slightly every so often. This will help break  the collected fluids/blood etc.

take Serramend up to 16 a day. Must be on empty stomach.

Start 1teaspoom "Calm" magnesium powder in am for constipation.

eat right and stay positive
