Finally! I thought I was the only one, I am so glad I have read this today. I actually have that horrible feeling right now after around 6 months of not having it.

I'm 15 and it started around the age of 10 or 11 which made me think it was because of my period but it's nowhere in that area. I also thought it was because right before it started I ran into a metal bar and it hit me in that exact spot that I have pains in now 5 years ago.
It's hard to explain but it's like a severe cramp just where my sternum ends. Those cramps start off as a weird trapped wind feeling and seems to get worse. It's annoying but bearable for about 2 hours. After those 2 hours it reaches it's peak and it's an agonizing feeling that starts and stays for about 30 seconds and then settles down and comes back around 5 minutes later. Also, when I push out my chest I have a sore feeling in that spot too. I used to be able stop this feeling by vomiting but that doesn't work anymore unfortunately.
When the feeling stops either by vomiting, sleeping for a very long time or it just stops on its own- it stops around 12 hours later- the next day underneath the spot about 3 inches its sore but bearable. The third day its around my lower intestine area and the next day it's gone. But then, it would all start again 1-2 months later.

The last time I got it was around 6-9 months ago and I was surprised that it was gone. But unfortunately I have it again. My parents only tell me its a normal tummy bug but this feeling is like a deep bruised feeling not a bug. The doctor also hasn't found anything wrong.

I'd like to know what is wrong. If these points mean anything I'd like a reply.

-Both my sisters have irritable bowel syndrome, my father has bowel problems and my mother has recently been diagnosed with colon polyps.
- Like I said, when I was younger I hurt my sternum area.
- This morning I ate some slices of white bread so the expanding bread could be a problem.
- I'm on my period, day 6- 6 days is my usual cycle but it seems to be heavier and lasting longer this month.
- I also was eating a lot of sweet and fatty foods recently which gave me more spots but the weighing scales says I have lost weight.
-I don't have a balanced diet. No fruit of vegetables anywhere whatsoever.
- Apart from the toasted white bread this morning I haven't eaten anything else.
- I'm 15 years old around 5'10" tall and I'm 8 stone 11 pounds.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone replied or added to this forum.

Thank you,

Megan

guyssss i have exactly the same thing, every 2months right on que, starts out with a little bit of pain in the afternoon then when the evening comes i can barely move, the pain is absolutely excruciating, i feel like i want to be sick but can't throw up, i go into a trance and can't sleep because i assume the pain keeps me up, this can last up to four days worst case scenario, getting slightly better as the days go by. If i could physically move to get a knife i would commit!

good news is... when i completely illiminated gluten grains (wheat, rye, barley etc) and dairy, though i assume its the gluten causing the problem and not the dairy (raw dairy preferred) the pain didnt come, when i had small amounts in the two month period, the pains would come but not that badly, then when i went back to consuming as normal, it came back in full force! best advice - go completely t-total for a few months and see how you feel.

you'll find most things are based on your diet, it's just hard to know what's good for you and what's not. i'm just so glad i discovered a way to stop the pain i've had it for over ten years! try paleo - seems to be pretty good, and remember exercise and positive believing and spirituality.

Hopes this cures y'all.

P Man.

Well, although it sucks having all this pain and episodes, at least I'm not alone...

This all started for me about 10-12 years ago.  I would be in bed at night and start feeling pain in my upper abdomin right below my ribcage.  the pain would feel like someone was stabbing me.  As the night progressed it would feel like someone was trying to push from inside my stomach whle at the same time stabbing me.  It was unbareble pain, and would last around 6-8 hours.  Nothing helped it, I tried tums, baking soda, and even drink teaspoon of apple cider vinegar... nothing would stop the pain... I would finally fall asleep usually with heating pad/hot water bottle because that seemed to help a little.  Then over the next few days, my stomach would hurt like I had thrown up all night..  These attacks may happen once every 9-12 months.

Fast forward to 3 years ago... this is when it started to get worse.  they would come more frequenctly over the last 2 years, maybe every 4-6 months.  Only differnence is pain would last abou 12-15 hours.

I had gone to my primary doc about these attacks, and without tests, have been diagnosed with Colitis, Gastritis, GERD.  But like I said nothing helped.  I have been taking prescription prilosec now for the last year, I have seen two doctors in primary's office and a N.P. all who have said GERD

So about a month ago, I had another attack, this pain was going on consitantly for 18 hours, started on sunday and by 5:00am monday morning i was in the ER. although now there were some other characteristics with the pain, I was getting terrible pain as well on the left upper side, by the ribs that felt like my ribs were broken.  I also got terrible bloating

They did xrays, ultrasound, and blood work... by 10:00am they found nothing and my episode was ending so the pain was not as bad, they said to increase my dosage of prilosec and follow up with my doctor.  When I went to see him, he said that I should see an GI doc. So he refered me to one and he also had me do a non contrast CT scan prior, another Ultra sound, and some more blood work.  In the meantime, I was out of work because the pain was really bad, I went back to work for a week, and then had another attack the following sunday again.  That friday I was having an appointment with the GI office.

I went to the appointment with the GI and saw the N.P. who set me up to get a Colonoscopy, and a Gastroscopy lthat following Monday(colonoscopy) and Tuesday(gastrocopy).  After having them done, it should nothing, it did show some gastritis but they thought it because I had a bug during one of my episodes..

So they told me to continue on the GERD meds along with a new diet to follow and sent me on my way.   So wednesday I wake up and my stomach is bloated and hurting, call doctor and they say Im probably cramping from procedure they prescribe me some meds and I take them and it started to feel better.. which brings me to Thursday.  Thursday i wake up with terrible back pain on my right side, So I get a call into the GI, and wait for his call.  He tells me to go to ER in case it is a kidney stone, but to also check with my primary.  I did not get a hold of my primary until friday and saw them at 2pm.  They then told me it was not kidney stones and muscle spasms from laying in bed and not really moving much.  I called the GI and told them what they said, and the office told me I had to go to ER, since he told me to, and get checked out before they would see me again...

So I headed to ER at 6:00pm and while I was in triage, I started having an episode/attack of the stomach... Pain was 12 on a 1-10 scale.  They again did blood test urnine tests and xrays.  Nothing showed up.  In the meantime they gave me dilaudid which helped the back pain, but was still in terrible pain from my stomach... also the left ribs were killing me.  They gave me another shot of dilaudid and this time it took away the pain.. it was so nice to not have the pain... After explaining everything to the ER doctor what tests I had done and that noithng has shown up, she suggested I follow up with GI doctor and Primary.  She also suggested I get a HIDA SCAN, which will tell you if your gallbladder is functioning properly. She explained the Ultrasound will only show gallstones that are 2mm or bigger and that it won't show if there is a problem in it function.

Today is Now monday, I tried to go to work today after now being off work for 2 weeks, and I am having terrible left side rib pain, and also stomach pain, not an episode, but usually this is the precursor to one to come.  I have been on the "GERD" diet and still my stomach is messed up.  I just wish they could find out what is causing this pain, and these episodes.

I will be calling GI today and primarty doc to make an appointment.  Will keep you all updated.

Thanks for letting me tell my story!

Hi,

Glad to know i'm not alone. I am a 31 year old male and I get a recurring stomach pain about every 5 months.

It starts with a slight gurgle in my stomach at night, then it progresses to a bearable (just) pain that lasts for about 12 hours - no break. Once it starts I cant sleep, can barely eat/drink and feel like vomiting. I will get the chills, then followed by a fever within the space of a couple of hours.

I have seen a doctor who recommended an ultrasound which revealed nothing - as far as the doctor was concerned I was fine. I thought it may be kidney stones (as this is in the family, and I get gout) however it was not. I also thought it may be worms, however this was not the case. The doctor said sometimes for no reason your stomach will just contract.

It generally takes a couple of days to get over, and my stomach will hurt from the attack. I might try a hot bath next time as this seems to work for a few people but other than that I guess I will just to have to put up with it! I have only had 4 - 5 attacks.

Have you been diagnosed yet? Iv suffered for atleast 9 years, exactly what you described. My last attack followed on to a different sharp stomach pain rather than contractions I was hospitalised with what they thought was a cyst on right ovary but it was a large tubo ovarian abscess. They said this is different to what causes my severe recurring pain..but could there be a link?!

Started happening to me from taking Ibuprofin... it could be an allergy to something- that can cause swelling and pain. Also, I was reading about hiatal hernias, where your stomach pokes through the hiatus in the diaphragm. Just thought this might be useful. Hope you feel better.

Hi everyone, I know its weird to say this but i am glad after seeing this page there are some people in this who are sharing the same problem as mine. I said i am glad because i am expecting some suggestions from you guys. I also usually have these stomach pains very severely every 3 months like it is following a pattern. I am afraid when this will come .Whether it will come in my semester exams or it will come when i am travelling somewhere in train. I get this pain in the nights usually followed by vomiting and Loose motions . I only wish i was dead on my stomach pain day. That's the severity of the pain.

Please suggest me something.
