Hey, I get these severe stomach aches every couple months. They last anywhere from 12-48 hours. I get very bloated when they happen, no antacids or gas-ex of any kind relieve the symptoms. I also get the chills as if I'm running a fever. Does anyone know what this could be?

You really need to see your doctor asap. It could be gallbladder inflammation or pancreatitis both of which are treatable but if left untreated can be potentially life threatening. You should never ignore this sort of persistent and regular stomach pain that also lasts for so long. Hope you take my advice and go to see the doctor. Best of luck/

I have been getting severe stomach pain for the last few months, each time the stomach ache comes it lasts longer and longer the last one was last night and it lasted about 14 hours with no breaks at all in the cramping. Even yet the pain is there but dull. I am going to my doctor tomorrow because I personally cannot take the pain. It is a 15 at 10 being unbearable. It is so bad I can't even get myself to a doctor if I wanted to. I hope you find your cause as I hope I find mine I will let you know what I hear. I think mine may be a bleeding ulcer, but time will tell.

I have exactly the same problem, they usually start off quite mild and then a few hours later it gets so bad i cant even walk, I went to the doctors and he gave me some kolanticon gel which kinda mellows the pain but still doesnt rid of it completley, i'm going back soon to see a different doctor, fingers crossed it isnt something serious

It could be an ulcer. My freshman year of college I would get severe stomach pains that would last me for about 8 hours. I couldn't get up and they prescribed lortab's because they couldn't really do anything else. There are medicines out there for ulcers, if you have that. I'd go. They finally found I had ulcers through a CAT scan the first night they came, they had me in the hospital for a few days because I was in so much pain. So good luck with it. But you should probably go to the ER next time this happens.

I have been having the same thing since 1996. I get severe stomach pain. It feels as if my stomach is being twisted like a wet towel and pumped up with air. My stomach is almost always swollen after. The pain is intense. I sleep alot during but very unrestful sleep. After about 5 yrs I finally went to the doctor. The first two said they
"felt" it was probably my gallbladder but did no tests, just said to come back next time it happens. The pain is not isolated to left or right side, it permeates all from under chestbone to navel - left and right side. I went to another doctor who did an ultrasound and found nothing. I then went to a specialized doctor and she ordered bariatric x ray and cat scan. Nothing! Im perfect. Even after several blood panels...everything except the HIV test was done! Everything perfectly normal.
How can THAT be? I am in pain for nearly 3 full days each occurence. I lose my appetite the day before which is now my only clue that "the bubble" is coming. In addition, my hands and feet really hurt. My entire body hurts but I think that other than the hands and feet, its because of the pain in the stomach and Im tensing up everywhere else. To cough or sneeze is murder. All of my body functions basically come to a halt. No diarrhea, no constipation, not passing gas thru the colon, only burping. I can actually press my stomach and make myself burp...alot!!!
I literally don't have any appetite for the entire episode and if I do try to eat or have any liquids, its just too much for my stomach to handle. I think that its like the stomach has to move around to digest it but the whole area is so swollen and irritated the little work the stomach does creates more pain.
I finally went to have upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. That was helpful...but yet...just to tell me NOTHING is wrong with me. The pain is unbearable. He gave me some pills to relieve the pain which didnt really help. The next episode I was instructed to go have blood work done. Seeing if white blood cells etc, okay. As predicted, Im in perfect health! So why is it I look and feel like Im dying when this is happening? The Gax X, Pepto Bismol, etc type of over the counter remedies dont help.
Went to homeopathic and his remedies didnt help either. Was getting massage if it started, and the fact that a licensed technician would work on my belly was so helpful. The next days pain was reduced greatly. She also did accupuncture. It didnt cure or stop the problem, it simply reduced the amount or level of pain. I also went to a reflexologist to see what could be done, that was helpful too in reducing the amount of pain.
No gallstones, no kidney stones, no appendicitis (this is what I initially thought it was), no polyps. My stomach is always distended and is getting worse each time. If this could be life threatening the doctors certainly dont act like it...kind of like, its not what they thought, so I must be fine?

Hi All,
I've been having similar condition as what everyone else is describing here. Mine started about 4 years ago (I'm 40 now). I get severe stomach pains every 2-4 months and the attacks last for about 8-10 hours. I usually know that an attack is coming because it starts with little cramps 4-5 hours prior to the main event and it steadily increases until I'm just incapacitated. After the attack subsides, I will have sore stomach for about 5-6 days after as if someone has punched me in the gut :-) I'm then symptom free until next attack.
I've had upper GI, tummy x-rays, ultrasound and colonoscopy done and they have revealed nothing abnormal. My specialist seems stumped and has concluded that it's IBS.
I'm desperate to find at least something that can manage the pain during these episodes. I have tried pain killers even morphine pills to no avail.
I'm just counting my blessings that this problem only occurs every few month and even though every attack episode is a nightmare to get through, it eventually goes away.
God Bless!

Hi Steven n I too get exactly the same symptoms and like you have been into hospital 3 times and had several test but no conclusion has been drawn. One was it was IBS which I think is a copout the other was a grumbling appendix, well if ti is grumbling, take the bleeding thing out I dont need it. So overall after all that I am still no better off. Surely to god someone must have a cure as I know several people with the same problem!! Mark (UK)

I get what everyone is describing here every 3 to 6 months. I've been to ER 2 times and on both times they don't find anything wrong with me. I've been to 2 different doctors and they don't see anything wrong with me. I've had upper lower gi, colonoscopy, cat scans, ultrasound all different types of blood works and there is nothing wrong. How can this be I've been having this problem for over 5 years now. I would like to know if anyone has had any success of getting any this issue resolved.

Does it hurt to take a deep breath when your having an episode? Does the pain feel so sharp that it feels like a knife is lodged in your right side, right under your rib cage?
I have been through every test imagineable and been to the ER as others have mentioned and they found no reasoning for my pain. I started having pains like this when I was about 9 and I'm 26 now and feel that I have finally figured out a way to stop the pain.
I eat regularly.
I have to have food intake every couple hours or the acid in my stomach causes this serious pain. I bring snacks in my pocket so that food is available as soon as I feel a slight hunger. If I get up and don't have breakfast within the first hour awake then I eat- the pain begins and lasts all day and all night and will at times carry over to the next day. Food will make it worse.
My pain can be resolved if I eat on a strict schedule. 30 minutes after I wake, 3 hours after that, then a snack 3 hours later, then dinner 3 hours later then bed. I cannot allow myself to feel overly hunger or as soon as I eat - i feel terrible. Pain is 10 out of 10.
Although I'm unsure of the medical explanation for this and so is every doctor I've seen, I am happy I've found a way to avoid the episodes. I just have to snack throughout the day.

I too am in month long stomach pains, but rather than focus on them...I would rather offer some solutions. My sister had stomach pains for two years while in her mid teens. We took her everywhere including some of the finest hospitals, which many claimed it was anorexia (she lost 30 pounds due to the stomach pains).
It ended up being an issue with her ovaries. One ovary had basically shut down and was causing the stomach pains. A simple hormone treatment did the trick instantly, and that was after two years of searching for answers.
Just some food for thought. Good luck everyone.

these are my symptoms almost exactly. the only thing that helps is an extremely hot scalding shower or very very hot hot water bottle.

I had this. It was awful. it began when i was younger. i had tests done to see if i had a hiatis hernia, ulsers, heart problems, blood tests, and when the pain started to increase and become chronic (every three months for two years) and i went to the hospital a few times. they finally said i could have an ultrasound because the doctors thought it could be my gallbladder, appendix or my ovaries. they found nothing.
i was so upset and frustrated. i had seen a doctor the previous year and he had said it looks like my appendix. so when i had the ultrasound done, i thought they were going to say the same thing. i believe in God with all my heart. i'm a spirit filled christian and believe in healings. i asked God to show me what was wrong with me. i was tired of not knowing. i told God i didn't care how much it hurt, just please get me to a doctor who could figure my problem out.
so, right on schedule, i had another episode. this time it was much worse. i was under a lot of stress with being behind with school and a close friend leaving town. i went to bed with it thinking it would go away and it was just from stress. three hours later i woke up from having the worst sleep and it was worse. i took a pill a doctor perscribed to me. it was a muscle relaxer because he thought it was irritable bowel syndrom. that didn't help. two hours later i took an advil. that only made me start vomiting. it went on for 5 hours. i went to the ER and they said they would take out my appendix. even if it wasn't inflamed, they would remove it. i went into surgery and when i woke up they said it was infact my appendix. however, doctors read books that say chronic appendicitous isn't real. but they are clearly wrong and the doctor who operated on me said that i could prove the book wrong.
it's coming up a year since i had the operation. i've always had stomach problems but that one pain the occured every three months have stopped. i had a minor pain that felt like it, and actually, christmas morning of this year, i woke up at 5am feeling like a did when the pain began before my surgery. i knelt by my bed and prayed and the pain disappeared
i couldn't eat nuts before my appendix was taken out. now i can. i think the nuts irritated my appendix. take notice to the food you eat before your pains. it could be irritating your appendix.
hopfully this helped. i felt totally alone with this pain. some doctors didn't believe me as i am a teenager. one doctor even thought i could be pregnant and drink too much. i kept insisting that it was impossible for either one to be true.
today, i randomly googled the symtoms and found this. i thought i would try to help anyway i can. to all those suffering fromm chronic pain... seek different opinions. insist on seeing other doctors. i still have minor pains from other problems, but nothing could ever compare to the pain my appendix gave me. if this doesn't help you at all. ask God for a healing. i know for a fact he heals. all the best,
Cait

Okay, so just like you all I have been experiencing this pain too. It occurs about every six months for me. It only happens at night once I lay down. The pain is very sharp and excruciating and occurs right below the middle of my ribcage. The pain last for about 8 hours and causes me to vomit because it is so hard to handle. Before and during the episodes my stomach gets really bloated. Ive been to the emergency room three times for it. I've had every test in the book. My gynecologist suggested that I may be having muscle spasms, but he's unsure. I would love to know what causes this problem. There are no patterns of what I eat that leads to this.
I would love some suggestions!
