Don't listen to the guy above me. No offense to that person, but you should see your doctor if you're having severe pain.

I was the last poster on the previous page, and to update: my CT scan showed one 5mm gallstone but my doctor is ordering an MRI to see if I have any in my bile duct. He said surgery is likely at this point.

My 16 year old son is having the same issues. He’s currently awaiting an appointment for an upper endoscopy to rule out anything there. The doctor is thinking he is having abdominal migraines. Sounds silly, but look into it!

I had the same thing from about 8 years old to in my 40s...Drs had no clue. A nurse Prac finally said , well you never had a hidascan. I had sludge in my gallbladder. I had it taken out and only had some mild stomach issues....Before I would compare it to worse than having a baby. Unable to do anything....except for sleep strangely but on for short periods. After about 8 - 10 years I started having stomach issues again... the reason for that is SOD, typically presenting as postcholecystectomy, “biliary-type,” right-sided abdominal and/or chest wall pain. I do have muscle spasm meds that help and I would rate the pain a 5. If I have to live with his, that's ok. Better than having a gallbladder.

Did you ever find out what was wrong?

Hi there, I don't know whether you check this thread anymore, but I thought I would post here in case you are still experiencing the severe stomach pains you posted about. I had been having the exact same experiences with stomach pains that you described and so I went to see my GP. Your description was so similar to my experience that I actually showed my doctor your post! Like you, I had a bunch of tests done (ultrasounds, blood work, testing for celiac disease, etc.), but everything came back fine. My doctor also thought maybe IBS, but wasn't sure and I didn't  have any other symptoms. I was so distressed because the pain was unbelievable -- the worst pains I had ever felt -- and no one could figure out what was wrong. I looked for ANY pattern that I could find that might explain why this was happening to me. After testing a bunch of hypotheses on my own over several years (eliminating certain foods, reducing stress, etc), I finally found a possible cause: holding in gas. This seems like a REALLY silly reason, but I noticed that the episodes of pain would hit me within a day (or two) of times when I had been holding in gas excessively. I work in an office environment so I did this a lot without realizing. To test this, I made a conscious effort to not hold it in whenever I needed to pass gas. AND NOW, THE EPISODES OF PAIN ARE GONE. I have not had another episode since I made this change and it has been such a relief!! I'm not saying this will work for you, and I always always always recommend people consult a doctor when something is wrong, but since you've done this already and your experience is so similar to mine, I wanted to reply to let you know what helped me. Worst case is that it doesn't work for you, but who knows, maybe it will! I wish you all the best.

I would like to write about my own personal experience, as this thread seems to have many similar issues to those I am dealing with and I would like to know any thoughts from someone who has similar symptoms.

I am 25 and have had these "pains" for about 4/5 years. It seems to occur around every 8-12 weeks. It usually starts with a mild, or sometimes sever pain at the lower part of my stomach, a very strong aching pain, this will come on out of nowhere. It seems to happen a lot during the night, possibly when I haven’t moved for long periods. The usual pattern is the pain will be so strong it will wake me up from sleep, around 1am, 2am or 3am. It will usually happen again first thing in the morning when I wake up at 6am. The pain will usually appear again around 2 or 3 times during the day, then sometimes again before I go to sleep. It can be up to 7/8 times in one day! When these sessions of paint "start" I will usually have re occurring pains for anywhere between 4-8 days consecutively, then when it is gone after the week or so it is gone for at least over a month... literally like nothing was wrong, Until the cycle comes around again and it all comes back again. The pains themselves will come of out of nowhere too, there is nothing different I do/eat/feel and the pain usually lasts anywhere between 30 mins to an hour and a half of constant pain, depending on what I do. If the pain starts off mild, if I do nothing and try to ignore it it will just build up and get worse, to the point where I literally can't focus on anything else, this is such a huge problem especially if I am at work, I can’t function at all. And the only thing to stop the pain is to get into a boiling hot bath, which does eventually ease the pain, however sometimes much quicker than others. The pain also feels much worse if I am trying to go to the toilet, but I try to force myself to go, otherwise the pain tends to get worse, however sometimes I can't make myself go at all as it hurts too much in my stomach, then other times the stool is fairly loose.

The pain when it comes on is affecting my life so much, and making it very difficult to work, I cannot take any time off as once the pain is gone after an hour or so I am fine to continue working. It becomes a case of dreading when the next term of it will come around and I know I must face another 4-8 days of on and off excruciating pain.

I have had multiple blood texts and ultrasound scans, nothing has ever come up unusual, the doctor has no idea what is wrong, and therefore cannot give me any medication/treatment as she dies not know what the problem is. I have now been referred to a gynecologist, but this is a 6 month wait just for the appointment. I am still no closer to having any idea where these pains are coming from and why. Any advice please share, I would love to know more about everyone else’s story.
