This literally has just happened to me. I opened a bottle of Mountain Dew and took one sip, instantly my stomach bloated out and the extreme pain kicked in. The pain was so crippling I curled up in a ball on the floor screaming in pain. Its slowly subsiding, but I'm still on the floor. It must have something to do with the CO2/Carbonation. I hope the pain goes away fully soon.

I had this happen to me a few times. It won't happen forever, I go for a long run, come home, drink some seltzer and feel a sharp pain in my chest, and sometimes get almost faint. Scary but has been happening for years, so if was serious I figured I would be dead by now.

I have had this happen a few time before. Im a large sized semi athletic man weighing in at 350. I commonly get blood and heart check ups and get better than average resaults. This morning when the soda occurance happened i had eaten some doritos followed by a average gulp of coke and immediately began to have 10/10 "heart" pain collapsed towards the table, then sprung to my feet and stretched my chest as vertically as i could and let out a small burp. The pain subsided and went to work as normal but all through the day during drinking, eating, and larger breaths all seem to bring a alight all but familiar pain.

I don't really drink fizzy drinks but last night poured a cold glass of carbonated water we had from the fridge.

The pain was so bad I thought I would pass out.

Soda is bad for you, period.

Drinking out of aluminium cans is bad for you, period.

If you want to develop health issues and deposit aluminium into your brain contributing to your chances of suffering from Alzheimer's in your later years (like my grandmother) , then continue to drink sodas out of cans regularly throughout your life.

not to mention increased UTIs

I'm on Google trying to find out what caused that pain and found this message board. I can't even describe how painful it was when I drank just a sip of Irn Bru on an empty stomach after waking up (brushed my teeth before drinking it of course) and I know I had an empty stomach because whenever I have one I get this tingling, pop rocks like feeling at the back of my throat. I think that's stomach acid just letting me know that it's totally empty of food right that second. I was going to eat get a ready-made crepe for breakfast but the first thing I saw was the bottle of Irn Bru and I just couldn't resist so I lifted the bottle to my mouth and took a sip. Then of course the worst pain exploded from my stomach right up to my throat, like someone had lined the whole thing with fire and I felt dizzy as well. Started walking around a bit to lose the feeling but it remained like that for the next 10 minutes and now (after 2 hours) there's just a dull pain in my chest but it's strange and usual still because I've never experienced anything like this before. Is this how it feels for people with acid reflux everyday? I've got a new-found admiration for whoever has that condition and I don't think I can even bear the thought of that sort of pain ever again.

Hi this happened to my mum yesterday she said she got the bottle out of the fridge, got the worst stomach pain she's ever had, passed out and woke up 20 minutes later feeling fine, only to notice she cracked her head on the hard tiled floor and has been in hospital ever since! I would love to know what has caused this. She drank Pepsi straight out of the bottle from the fridge.

I've just watched Holby City and it is a medical condition. The solution is to avoid cold and fizzy drinks.
